  • REMEMBERING THE OLD RABAUL TOWN AND THE ICONIC PACIFIC GOLD STUDIOS.
Three commercial studios,Pacific Gold,Chin H Meen(Chm) and Tumbuna Tracks began their operations in Rabaul before moving out to other PNG centers. Chm began in Rabaul as a retail business before establishing itself in Port Moresby and eventually setting up a recording facility in the capital city.In 1989 Chm returned to Rabaul and opened another studio after Rabaul's Kuanua Studio was bought by Chris Seeto and relocated to Madang.Chris Seeto renamed his new studio" Tumbuna Tracks." Pacific Gold Studios also started in Rabaul and years later it set up another studio in Port Moresby while its 24 and 16 tracks, along with its retail business, remained in Rabaul.
Sadly during the September 1994 volcanic eruptions Pacific Gold Studios and Chm lost all their businesses in Rabaul.
The photos in this clip show the destruction caused by the twin volcanoes that erupted more than 25 years ago on the 19th of September 1994.The song in this clip is the original version of "Rabaul Town" which Barike wrote and recorded back in 1984.After the 1994 eruptions Barike re-recorded another version with lyrics altered.
This song is taken from Barike's third album titled "I Paia" which was released in 1984 by Pacific Gold Studios
