- The Wolfe Tones - Were on the one Road lyrics
(Chorus)
We're on the one road
Sharing the one load
We're on the road to God knows where
We're on the one road
It may be the wrong road
But we're together now who cares
North men, South men, comrades all
Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Donegal
We're on the one road swinging along
Singing a soldier's song
Though we've had our troubles now and then
Now is the time to make them up again
Sure aren't we all Irish anyhow
Now is the time to step together now
(Chorus repeat)
Tinker, tailor, every mother's son
Butcher, baker shouldering his gun
Rich man, poor man, every man in line
All together just like Old Land Syne
(Chorus repeat)
Night is darkest just before the dawn
From dissention Ireland is reborn
Soon we'll all be United Irishmen
Make our land a Nation Once Again
(Chorus repeat)
This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Brings me instant joy.
I saw some lad on Facebook playing this song loudly at a loyalist parade so that's why I'm here.
And me
😂😂
It's strange how people all around the world love irish music and feel like they're irish somehow. Irish music is so communicative
There's a reason why so many people identify with their Irish heritage!
On my first visit to Ireland in the early 1970's, we were in a Dublin pub on O'Connell St. when they played "On the One Road". Everyone STOOD like it was the Irish national anthem
I believe it's the semi-official anthem of the Irish army, so there's that.
I would give anything to had been with you! Sounds awesome.
That’s awesome man. Modern Ireland sucks. The young ones have no patriotism or that old school Irish pride. Just a bunch of EU wannabes
@Mark Kelly yea I am. Grandparents moved here in the 50s from Armagh. Thank god too. Wouldn’t wish it on my own kids to be Irish in today’s world. What a joke that country is. I enjoyed going in the summers as a kid to the countryside but I’m happy to be American. All my cousins are jealous too. You can tell that’s an Irish trait to be jealous of their American cousins. They got stuck back in Europe. Now Ireland is just run by Belgian bankers lol
@@shawnfinnegan64 how does ireland suck and have no patriotism. I have american cousins and i have never been and have never meet anyone jealous of people living in america so it must a trait that your family has. Can you explain how ireland isnt patriotic
Up Ireland! The most precious of them isles! Sláinte y saludos fraternales de la ciudad de méxico!
🌶🐒
I was invited to join a group of people on a bus trip from Castlemaine to a fair in Kenmare by a guy I'd met in Griffin's Bar the night before. They sang Irish folk tunes and stopped at various pubs along the way. It was a magical experience that will live on in my memory forever. They sang this song on the way back with such enthusiasm it made me want to cry. I love Ireland!!!
THE WOLFE TONES ARE SOME FUCKING LEGENDS
Love Irish folk music I grew up listening to this as a child thanks to my mum and this makes me proud to be irish
This is my favourite song ever 👊🙏🤟🤟
One of the greatest groups ever...seen them many a time....wonderful gigs...thank you Wolf Tones!
Love and support from Liverpool
Great song. Brings back memories of being in the Scouts. I went on a trip to Scotland once, and my leader had a CD of Irish songs he'd play when we were going on road trips in the minibus.
Best song ever in 2021 from the UK x
god bless these men, i am in tears to these tunes
From Morocco I love this song

Great scenery in the video of the Wolfetones singing On the one road & the white 1946 pr 1947 Chrysler in it. On he one road makes a great travel song.it would also be the perfect song for a unified Ireland which at the present is wait & see is my guesstimate.
Never give up !
Im french from a very small island in south Bretagne and this music reasonning in me

I love this song, greetings from Slovakia
It's a song of rebellion against the British and a hope for the regaining of our lost province.
Great song!!!
Isn't it about time we started a discussion about big ag (big agriculture) and the role it played in manipulating these historical divisions. In the 1960 our farm was abuzz with building - byres, silos, a new dairy, a general purpose house. In 1970, my father gave up the milk license ( business suicide when i look back). We stopped keeping sows, we stopped keeping poultry. We stopped growing corn (it was actually barley). We stopped growing potatoes. And I went to boarding school.
A retrospective would suggest this was perhaps a prototype for agricultural and rural development. The plus points of how land was farmed in those days by far outweighed the negatives. The pluses refer to self sufficient life style, local produce for the local dairy. The egg man collecting every week. The negatives relate to cruelty. Castrating pigs, using pliers to stop their teeth developing, caustic soda to stop calves growing horns, ringing bull calves.
These were cruel practices. They still exist under the guise of hygiene and consumer damand.
During the last 50 years I have reflected on an agricultural future i might have had. I live in London at the moment and have a window box!
I'm a committed vegan. Newspapers in the early 70s were referring to a vaguan (vague and) lifestyle.
I hope history will show.
It's corporatisation at every level. The days of a hard-working farmer, or shopkeeper, or any other smallholder being able to compete against the money, market power, tax breaks (and dodgy accounting) of the large corporations are long gone. I'm probably about 10 years younger than you, and like you, I've watched it all happen with dismay.
Some lad was drunk singing this on the train in Belfast
And you make us all proud
This song will have a great new meaning when Ireland is made a nation once again
You'll be waiting a long time 😂

Not really.
Enjoying the Sinn Féin First Minister 😂
I like this song and used it on my video of my cat, Marley. He is "black Irish" kitty.
Jesus, I sang this song more than the happy birthday song, in Acton. Churchill still never gave us the North back, and it looks like they gave Kilburn to the Muzzys! Our forefathers paved the streets of London for nothing. They would nt even give back what they stole from us!
One road to us irish people is the same as irish national anthem .can't wait to Jan 2nd when we attend wolftones 3rd Jan Belfast waterfront Hall and Dublin 2nd January 2024 60 years in 2024 . Woldtones is the crutch of irish . They keep our patriots of 1916 and our political prisoners in the limelight. And I'm proud of my irish living in Co Tyrone North Ireland and Donegal being my home .
Great song 👏👏👏🇮🇪☘️
Tinker, tailor, me and the houties we're all on the one road ❤
Beautiful track
Isn't it about time we had a discussion about big ag (big agriculture)? The CAP was about to be introduced. The subsequent funding would determine the future of agriculture for a generation and beyond. This mentality still prevails today.
I'm English and I love this song
I’m Irish and it’s basically a diss track lol get ur facts right
We are 🙏😍🙏

Congratulations to the great Republic of Ireland! Rainbows over Dublin as Ireland becomes a vanguard world leader. Now about those six occupied counties...26 + 6 = 1. TAL
If you MUST listen to this in Belfast city centre, remember to wind your window up first.
But sure look north men south men comrades all, it'd be best if we could all sing together lad!

my name is Wolfe. how did they call it "the Wolfe tones"?
Wolfe tones was one of the founding members of exclusively protestant men of the united Irish men in 1798
Wolfe Tone was the founder of the United Irishmen, one of the most significant rebellions in Irish history. And he had hoped to join protestants and Presbyterians and Catholics together in peaceful coexistence
