Lense Stress Test

  • A bit of fun destructive lense testing. This is made in reference to what are commonly listed as "FMA F1" goggles now found all over the internet. Depending on the site, sometimes they are called paintball or airsoft goggles. They are counterfeits of the DYE Invision Goggles and the lense is NOT strong enough to be used for paintball
There are several videos already on youtube showing those knockoff goggles being destroyed by paintballs. We are not breaking any news here.
This video was inspired by a JT print ad from the 1990s that showed their lense stopping birdshot. I have been unable to find that print ad anywhere on the internet.
*Edit: There is some debate amongst our staff as to whether some part of the 22lr round did get through the lens. Either it was a very small fragment or the lenses stretched and then closed up around the hole as it passed through. It is unclear. No one should be using paintball lenses to protect from any firearm.

These tests were done using JT lenses, but the results should be valid amongst any modern major lense brand.
Back in the 1990s, JT ran some advertisements showing their lense stopping 12gauge bird shot. That was the inspiration behind trying this.
The only point of this is to reassure players that lenses are very very strong and to be careful that they're not buying goggles designed for airsoft and/or knockoff goggles made to look identical to paintball goggles, but with paper thin lenses.

Here's a video of testing of knockoffs (non-astm certified) and how dangerous they are for players.
