This is super interesting. Ive been looking for this content for years. If you want another mask to put through the paces i'd be happy to send you out a 6YO JT Spectra Lens and a 10YO Profiler lens.
I think it’s worth pointing out that even when the grills failed they were safer than the fma’s, and that is very much on purpose. Modern safety guild lines cover not only the material strength of a lease, but also how it behaves after it fails.
Good point. I think I did say that the 12 year old lens cracked, rather than the shattered lens result from the FMA ones.
To the people who says you don’t get shot in the mask that many times in a row does it really matter do you really want something like that on your face
Great video chap
Great video mate, here's hoping this puts people on the right path :)
@@PaintballMagazine its a shame to do, but to stress the point that these cheap masks are dangerous I'd say its worth it in the long run
@@DextersPBLab and to replace lenses regularly. I mean anyone running around with a 12 year old lens probably needs to have a think...
Hello guys, i want to buy the Dye i5 but I didn't see a single video of it getting shot.
How much can it take and does someone has a video of the DyeI5 getting shot?
Thanks😁
Hit the FMA Masks with some Firststrikes, I bet it cracks at second shot!
I don't get why these companys like FMA take the time/money/investment to create something as crap as this and sell and send people to the hospital ?!? (yea... money makes the world go round...) Thanks for doing this!!
these are from wish... which means these are Chinese knockoffs. FMA isn't spending any time/money/investment at all... the F1 is a copycat Dye mask. FMA didn't spend any time or money designing it. They just make their own when they aren't making for Dye and cut corners to increase profit margins.
Are any of the masks for sale? I’ll buy either of the grillz??
I've been fighting with Amazon to get these removed from their platform for months now. If you have a spare 5min call their customer service and report every mask on the first page of search results by adding them to your cart and having the Amazon agent view your cart.
Good work there mate ! Frightening that these things are for sale !! :(
Wonder if the FMA lenses are acrylic and not polycarbonate?
Possible, the material is noticeably different and distorts the vision.
@@PaintballMagazine fun test, one melts at much lower temperature. Basically a flame on acrylic is actually use to polish edges. Polycarbonate is the higher temperature but it doesn’t like a flame. It has moisture in it which means it tends to crack and bubble.
How about getting a Dye i4 lens in the F1, it totals to ~60usd and now you got a mask that looks good and performs well.
The whole construction is shoddy, from the poor lens quality to the foams that drop out and lens retainers that are loose. I would not trust a legit lens to stay in place or even fit correctly.
@@PaintballMagazine Made me think twice, thanks. Also, there is something satisfying about the PB splats in slow-mo. Great content!
@@darkslidesk8t3r thanks. Appreciate the support and comments. Would you have tested it any differently?
@@PaintballMagazine Perhaps doing scratch/ chemical testing to see if it is actually polycarbonate and not acrylic. Spraying it looks impressive though!
Would have appreciated more information about the build quality.
Coming from the airsoft community myself.
if you can't spend $100 to protect your eyesight... find a different hobby friend.
please test the HPAT mask from akiexpress ;)
Send us a link and we will look. We have the Khan mask from ebay to test next, spoiler alert! It's awful.
What if you were to use proper Dye lenses instead?
The lens would most likely fall out due to the poor construction of the frames.
so the FMA F1 is a copy cat Dye mask?
In as much as it looks similar and the fittings will poorly hold a genuine dye lens.
I feel like my Scott mask from 1993 with original dual thermal lens will be safer than that turd.
I know people are going to be argue that you can put and i4 lense in it let me make a diffrent argument. And? Your giving money to a clone that takes money away from legetimit paintball comoanies. In america your talming $75 for that set up before taxes. Black proflexes are around that price. There are grillz on sale at that price and profiles as well. The base( now crbn) gso is $50 with thermal lenses in it. Its financially a dumb idea and also takes away from paintball companies making things that actually work. And it GE tthe want to save money to enjoy the sport. But not at the long term cost of not just your eyes which should be priority #1 but also IP thieves. And its more expensive if you do make it worked properly
Out of curiosity what price should a person new to the sport look to spend if they want a safe reliable mask and lens.
There are masks available for every budget. But I would always recommend at least a thermal lens mask from any reputable paintball shop. A quick Google search for a shop near you will give you the answer.
Difference between quality and junk. The old lens cracked, however it would keep you safe enough to get off the field and change it, versus exploding into your eyes. Great video.
