Theres a laptop with 2 1080s SLI and an i7, It is pretty much equal OR BETTER than the desktop version.

You might have a little luck with an older core2quad overclocked (the kits including mobo and 4gb ddr2 or 8gb ddr3 go quite cheap these days, maybe cheaper than this 50$ tuberous plant.

I love this video even though its five years old and what you can get for the same money now is a little different. It inspired me to do the same thing. I was able to pick up an old HP Workstation XW8400 off of FB marketplace for $50. It has two Xeon 5160 dual core processors and 8gb of ram. It also came with a Quadro FX1700 GPU, which kind of sucks. I'm looking for a new GPU at the moment but unfortunately Im pretty broke so I cant get anything right now, but I think this thing has the potential to be a decent little machine. I hope im able to do something with it soon. Thanks guys.

Should have added a quad core cpu for $10 on ebay, probably a 775 CPU slot.
They said their cpu was a "3800+" (they also google "athlon 3800+") which is an oldschool amd cpu (socket 939 if I can remember correctly). Best they would be able to get would be an athlon 64 x2 cpu assuming the motherboard could support it.
I had a pc like that, best cpu it supported was a dual core 4800+

How to upgrade a laptop into a gaming pc

Well you could always use an external graphic card and upgrade its RAM (depending on the limit of your motherboard) which could improve your performance significantly. But you would need to have at least a decent CPU on that laptop because I think there is no way to improve that (and don't even think about over-clocking laptop CPU)

On the other hand many people who are not really interested in computers can say that they have a crappy setup only because it has a low performance while they can have a decent hardware inside that is however limited by something (you can often see office laptops with decent CPUs but horrible graphics cards).
