Hahahah... kids. It actually is... I played this game when I was only 5 years old. The quality of graphics FFVII had back then was technologically equal to this for it's time. It is retrospectively the same as I remember when I was young. TY El3thor, you get me ;D

+HyperShadowDaBeast Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but this does sort of look turn based. Just because there is a lot of running around, doesn't mean it's player controlled running.
I mean, take a look at the battle menu on the left hand side - The most obvious one that stands out is the 'defend' button which is pretty much an indication that it is somewhat turn based, because usually it's a simple button prompt for defend, or roll or whatever. Can you imagine the sheer annoyance of navigating the menu to 'defend' at just the right moment before you get attacked?
Also, it would just be hugely annoying navigating a menu in real time to find a Potion, Eye Drops or scrolling down your magic list for Quake 3 or whatever all the while you're getting screwed from the enemies.
The official video it looks like you're still fighting as Cloud, as he runs over to the guy behind Barret and attacks. These camera angles and lack of ''follow' would suggest there is no free movement here, just commands. Even if you're not fighting as Cloud at that moment, but rather Barret, the camera angles would still suggest turn based because the camera is facing Barret while he's attacking.
You also have a moving bar under their names too, which look similar to a XIII style, IE each attack takes up a certain amount of the bar so you can do combos perhaps, so again, suggests turn based.
So far. this game, to me, looks amazing and while it's pure speculation / theory, from what i see, this game looks more turn based than action.

True ffXV episode duscae dint have that menu system BUT duscae dint had magic and half of the techs were taken out. if you ask me ffxv will have menu too because without it using magic and skills would be totally impossible (using r1+l1 to change spells would take too much time) not to mention they have to give a new item menu to the game because u could only use items by pausing the game with start and then choosing the item
To be honest turn based battle is fuckin cool but we talking about one of the biggest jrpg franchies on the AAA market. (and literally after 7 every game changed something in the battle system and its also 2015 nearly 2016)

Indeed, SO2 in by far the best in the series. I absolutely loved the game back in old days. one issue for me though... every combar sounds like: mirror slice!, mirror slice!, mirror slice!, mirror slice!, mirror slice!, mirror slice!. Got somewhat annoying by the end of 60h playthrough) But that's just picking, amazing game

As for the FFX laugh scene that was intended to be weird. They make the weird laugh and than look at each other and laugh naturally. Tidus even makes a weird pose and Yuna is shocked.
It shows acceptance of Tidus into the group and tried to show that Tidus and Yuna are closer.

MoTown2112 They've already stated the story is going to be chopped with things removed and others added in so I'm pretty worried about what they are going to do to the game that got me into the entire RPG genre.
+Jerokhna They also said they are releasing the game in multiple parts so they don't have to cut content. The things they will cut is probably stuff like fort condor which could easily be exploited and I suspect the emerald and ruby weapons will be cut since they are not essential to the experience. They never said they are cutting parts of the story out, don't know where you read that but its bs. They already emphasised that one of the reasons for multiple parts is so they can focus on the different points of the game more to make sure they don't miss anything. Also they said the graphics will be better than what we have seen. Apparently they are using unreal engine 4 and the game is well optimised, as a result of this they have a lot of headroom to improve the graphics. As long as they keep the gold saucer and chocobo breeding then they can cut as much optional stuff as they like tbh.

I'm not gonna lie, I cried a bit too. 34 years on this earth and this still remains my favorite game of all time.
As a fifteen year old I'm so sad I didn't grow up earlier and don't have the nostalgia for this. The game looks beautiful and I am in shock, but I wish I had played this as a child. The main reason this piqued my interest was that of Cloud being in smash bros, and then I looked into FF on its own. This looks completely stunning, and I can't wait to see it in action.

You know what would really make me lose my mind? Final fantasy 9 remake. I'm playing through it for the first time and I am stuck on one section where everybody splits up on disk 3/4.

There are four shrines and a boss I killed prior said a clue so Zidane took it as that you have to activate all at the same time. All of your party members are split into four teams, Dagger/Garnet and Eiko both of your healers, Freya and Amerant two decent characters one that has great survival capabilities, Vivi and Steiner a match made in heaven, and Zidane your main character matched with the odd character Quinna. I can't make it pass the first boss. I should activate auto-potion just so I can survive longer.
Have you passed the boss yet? I know where you are, though I'm guessing you've already passed Ipsen's Castle or Upside Down House of Doom where the Mirror Panel is that tells you where you'll find the Elemental Shrines, right?
You need Auto-Float as the boss you're fighting uses Earth based attacks (Earthquake I think?). Auto-Regen is also a good idea to have since you don't have Healers with you (with Auto-Float he won't even touch you XD) and if you have it, activate Auto-Reflect as well, mainly because of his other spells. Quina should have learned Mighty Guard (I think) by now. Use it if you don't have Auto-Reflect, it'll boost your defences better than anything and is a good asset in most boss fights. Don't use it if you have Reflect, you'll be putting the spell on the boss instead.
If you got some lovely Earth absorbing gear in your inventory, just smash it on Zidane and Quina. Other than that, hit that sucker like there's no tomorrow. You won't even have to use spells or special moves if you've got them both on a decent level.
I do have mighty guard but I'm not sure about auto-float.
You can even eat him with quina for his Tornado Magic when he is at around 18k health I think?

Granted it's true that FF7 won't disappear entirely but people who have no real appreciation for a turn based JRPG will not ever touch it again. They won't see the charm in the pixelated character sprites and small interactions instead they'll get cut scenes with actual animation but that's about all they'll get. Other than that I agree with +FeniX_TX_ in the point of they're bastardizing a classic. We shouldn't be looking back and remaking what's been done but instead thinking up new concepts with new mechanics and a fresh original story. FF6 is a great example of this in comparison to it's direct predecessor FF5 where it goes from being goofy in FF5 with a hint of real issues to being a game that creates a lot of grey area with an immense amount of emotional turmoil and attachment to characters and their past. Not including the twist that the game doesn't have a happy ending.

FF8 does have flaws and can be quite repetitive especially with the GF summoning but I like the Junction system and of course the characters. I just wish SE could improve or better yet, overhaul the Draw system.
Hopefully there will be demands for FF8 remake. I need to see my Rinoa and have yet to hear her voice...
WilliamBilsters Can mods fix that? I'm using Tifa's 7th Heaven (I think it's called that) to mod ff7 and it's awesome. Gameplay tweaks, character models, the works.
The draw system wasn't that bad and you have no need to put it in battle (only to draw GFs) later on you can refine items for magic which makes the whole thing so much easier.

They should show female playable chars since beginning. Why do they need to 'hide' characters like Iris (or even Luna) being playable up to now. Even Sakaguchi also complained about the lack of character diversity. Not to say that I don't like XV - it's the game that brought me back to the series and I'm gonna break my PS4 playing the game non-stop.
and they should add lots of funny easter eggs and secrets that makes you feel "Holy Sh*t I MISSED THOSE!!!" :v

i've got ff15, i'd prefer to play ff7 original as the controls for 15 are clumsy, camera constantly getting in the way/stuck in trees, walls etc. i hope they put a turn based system as an optional extra as well as the active so we've at least got a choice....
Three of the reasons I could find that explain why this is not turn based:
1. Square wanted to test out different styles of gameplay for the FF series, seeing as KH has succeeded with the hack n slash style.
2. A turn based system would make the game too long, since FFXV can clock in about 12 hours on it's own, this would be agony to 100%, as I plan on doing anyway.
3. This system makes player feel as if they're in the game. It's quite hard to explain, but think of older games such as 1-7, where you have to choose your commands in order to do them. Just using the commands yourself makes you feel like you're in the character's perspective of the fight. That may have been what Square was aiming for.

10 years!!!!!!!!!!!! Since that tech demo came out finally!!!!!!!!! I beat FFVII 50 times!!!! time to beat it another 3 hundred times!!!! and with new shit!!!!! Hell yea!!!! I'm an old school turn based guy also but WHO CARES about the battle system???? It wasn't just the battle system the story is WHERE IT WAS AT! are you really complaining about the battle system get over yourself! come on!! seriously?!?!?!?!?!?! it's FINAL FANTASY GOD DAMN VII nothing else matters! with HD can you imagine the story expanding???? this will be the only game that will be just as good or better than METAL GEAR SOLID....years I've waited.... I've waited YEARS!!!! I've waited longer than any fan could imagine I've waited and waited until life finally came to the conclusion to make FF7 remake ....finally thank god!!!

As long as you can take them off I'm fine. I mean I love the game but it will never come close to what the original did for the platform and the time. The game changed the landscape. To fool myself thinking it will be better, well it won't Be enjoyable yes, but to recreate a moment or the moments of that game is impossible task.

Was watching the trailer at .25 speed. The extra bar under the name seems to DEPLETE overtime, and attacking seems to fill that bar up when you land a hit. And then the bar appears to deplete all the way right as some kind of stronger attack is used, even though the attack command remains highlighted the entire time. Not sure what that could mean though, and it very well could have already been changed from what it was a year ago. Just thought I would share my observation.

i was 12 when this game came out and it took me a loooong time to finish because i liked the game so much. i remember flying around in highwind just to do it, and finally getting a gold chocobo and finallly beating ruby god damn i love this game so much.

FFXV IS Kingdom Hearts Style but more mature and has more depth, if you think you can just mash the attack button and you're set and safe for any enemy in that game you're horribly mistaken : It's got parry "Just Guard" mechanism and split second decision making about your next move.
I hope they add those mechanisms to the VII Remake as well, it deserves it.

The good thing we saw here is, that they didn't change too much yet. They didn't make it like a FFXIII or a FFXV, it's more like a Crisis Core'ish FFVII, if I saw that right. I am totally fine with the fighting system even tho I think it will piss most old fans off. Since it's not turn based anymore. But after all, the original stays the original and even if a remake isn't perfect, the original is and stays!

Final Fantasy VII at least follows a particular theme and setting witch comprises most of the game. Chrono Trigger is like a mix and match of different time periods with different settings. To be able to replicate something like that with modern day technology would just be an unbelievable feat. You have so many color pallets to work with and various different design choices for each individual world setting. That is where you just kind of have to say "This is where classics just transcend time and should be enjoyed as they are, not to be altered in anyway" Be happy for what 16 and 32-bit sprites were able to achieve back in the day.

Alan Etienne cloud has always looked like that even in crisis core him and zack were asleep for like two years and the train to Midgar is where cloud is right at the end of crisis core so it's understandable he is smsll
I believe in FFVII advent Cloud is 2 years older from the FFVII original game, so perhaps the game devs want to give the impression of character growth by that or they're just simply want to stick true to what Cloud is like in FFVII before the remake (for the sake of nostalgia).
I disagree. In Crisis Core he was skinny, here he looks like he's suffering from anorexia. If we were to compare him to an actual person with this BMI I imagine he would be grossly under weight. He doesn't look remotely healthy or normal here.
It's hard to say what he looked like in FF7 the original. He was thin that's for sure but we didn't have the graphics to make someone comparable to reality. I think If anyone saw a person this thin in actuality they would be concerned for that persons well being. He looks like he's being starved.
