    Sometimes you want MORE POWER than the Steam Deck Has...at $2,699.99 might as well build a beast of a desktop and get a steam deck with it at that price.

      For sure there is a million and one ways to dice up $2.5k+. Who this is for, idk. Probably college students with scholarship money to blow would be my guess.

      True, but I think the desire for a laptop this powerful stems from it's portability, which is why the price is so high. I wouldn't pay that much, but in a couple years when it's half the cost, it might be worth it.

      @@B_MachineIf I wanted more powerful then Steam Deck I would've gotten Lenovo Legion Go or bought myself Asus ROG Ally I could easily get way more powerful still portable (ROG Ally) and more power without spending fortune!

      I need portability, for work.
      So I use gaming laptop.
      I used to have desktop and mid range laptop.
      Now I use only laptop. Im willing to pay extra for it. As many other people.
      But of course, desktop is much more performance per dollar better.

    • @xpeterson
      @xpeterson Před měsícem +7

      I’m just the opposite, I built a custom gaming PC but didn’t get a chance to use it much. Bought a gaming laptop later, much more expensive and less powerful, but considering my desktop was relegated to being a paper weight, the fact that I actually used my laptop on a regular basis made it a much better investment. Never going back

    Cool to see some higher-end hardware on the channel for variety! It would be awesome to get your opinions on a desktop PC with a real RTX 4080 (or something like that) in the future as well! It's a bit different from this, but desktops are the ultimate gaming systems for people who want immersive single-player gaming with all the bells and whistles enabled, making them an interesting subject for a video.

    I have a MSI RAIDER76, i7 3060 1080p. And I still prefer to play on the deck, mainly for the Oled screen. I’ll only play games that aren’t compatible on my laptop.

    Despite the other comments I think it's great to review laptops and PC"s, I will often steam link from my gaming laptop because the steam deck can't run everything, but you can play your laptop handheld.

  • @brandongabel
    @brandongabel Před měsícem +3

    Seems like a solid laptop but at that price point idk. I recently purchased an ASUS Vivobook 15X on Amazon for half the cost, packed with very similar features. The internals are from last gen, but still extremely viable for gaming. I played Lies of P at max settings and it ran great. It's rocking a 3060, an i7 12650H, and a 15.6" 16:9 1440p OLED that is probably just as amazing as the screen on this laptop. I love it, but the only things I don't love are how I have to have it plugged in to get max performance, but that's the case for most if not all Windows gaming laptops anyway.
    Regardless, great review! I look forward to the future of gaming laptops and gaming handhelds that all compete within the existing market.

    I don't necessarily think laptops and handheld pc's appeal to the same consumer.
    Even if a laptop had triple the performance of the deck I would still not use it over a deck or similar handheld cause of the form factor!
    That said the laptop does look really cool and very impressive performance.

    • @Nucleosynthese
      @Nucleosynthese Před měsícem +1

      This laptop has waayyyyy more than 3x the performance of the Deck. But I completely agree with your point haha

    • @smidlee7747
      @smidlee7747 Před měsícem

      Why you say that? When a game is overkill for a gaming laptop and desktop then the deck is perfect like Vampire Survivors and Dead Cells.
      I've been playing Unicorn Overlord on the Switch which is perfect game for a handheld while my desktop would be overkill.
      I would guess the vast majority who owns a Steam Deck already has a gaming laptop and/or desktop. At home I can even use remote play off of my desktop to play more demanding games on the OLED Deck. I can play the deck on my deck in the cool of the day. (I have an access point so have wifi outside of my home.)

      Agreed. Desktops remain the ultimate gaming systems for people that enjoy immersive single player gaming with all the bells and whistles enabled... maybe even some path tracing. I would always opt for combination of a cheap laptop and a way more powerfull desktop of the same money (or less) as a high-end laptop that is less performant.

      @baggedapplesgaming3207 Před měsícem

      @@UnendingCoda It's not a flex and my GPU is old, unfortunately. Just more commenting that because it really doesn't need to go anywhere and I have tons of room to add more to my build. Laptops are limited and if you need one for class/work, would not a cheap chromebook suffice? The money and performance you'd get out of a desktop would allow you to afford one.

      @@UnendingCoda When I went to university (just a few years ago), I had a desktop in my dorm for higher workloads and gaming, and a cheap laptop for moving around and taking notes. You don’t need the power on the go. That combination was both cheaper and more powerful than a high-end laptop. You are way more productive on a desktop (with multiple screens if possible) and a roomy desk layout with a keyboard and mouse. The 2024 ROG lineup is a joke, I just bought and returned both the 14 and 16. The 16 was the worst of the two, the thermal management was abysmal, the top case literally got hot enough to potentially cause burns. The battery life on the 16, even doing mundane tasks, was nowhere near as good as it should be. The 14 in contrast fared much better, the battery life, thermals and performance stayed consistent and did not drop off a cliff. That being said they made both of them way too thin this year, I imagine next year they will increase the size of the chassis to what it should be to properly handle the heat they both generate.
