The woman is married to the guy( they later get divorced). They were cops together, he was a patrol officer and she worked in narcotics and was an undercover officer until she got addicted and then fired. He still tries to help her multiple times to no avail. One time, she gts arrested for possession of drugs and when he talks to her, she says that the cops are going to search her apartment and find a huge amount of some drug (forgot what sry) that her junkie boyfriend or smth had kept there. She told him to remove it and he did, but the rookie he was training (shrink's daughter) figured out he would be there and went to stop him. He put it back in the end for the cops to find. His wife was going to get a lot of jail time, but since she had undercover police training and a lot of contacts, she made a deal to go undercover in exchange for immunity. Later on, she gets clean, they get divorced on good terms and move on with their lives
