I think it's pretty funny that Subaru encourages buyers to use the Starlink remote start app on their phone, and you can set the idle time to 5 or 10 minutes. BUT you better not sit idle for 5 or 10 minutes because it's bad for the environment and the engine will shut off. 😄

5:38 - Thanks for the hint! It sucks that just about any new car, not just Subaru, has pretty much been forced to make this a permanent part of the system from the factory.

Please clean your camera lens. You have great info & that distracts. Thanks! 🙂

I got the Autostop Eliminator and installed it myself. Goes up in the Eyesight/mirror location. Love it. It’s how the start/stop should work. When you turn it off, it stays off. When you want it on, you can turn it on anytime and it will stay on. Simple. I went this route because we had a flat battery at the airport after being away for a few weeks. Got a boost eventually and headed home. BUT I did not turn off the start/stop. So at the second light the car shut off but wasn’t charged enough to start. Another hour in the middle of the night and we were off again, this time with start/stop turned off. Bought the Autostart Eliminator and a car booster next day. Subaru replaced the battery under warranty.

Thanks for the video! MY 2019 Forester 2.0i e-boxer EU version Active trim level (Swedish)- The auto start stop disable button is missing totally and can't find it in anywhere in the menus/settings either. The feature itself works great but in some occasions would like to disable it. Any ideas?

I noticed my car did this but briefly only when I come to a stop but not always. I know its not broken its brand new but still freaky.

Thanks for the info! My question : does the on-board computer keep track of the number of start/stops that have occurred &, after a threshold number of these events has occurred will it signal that the starter needs to be replaced? In other words, is there a life span, rated in number of these start stop events, that will signal that the starter has reached its capacity &, therefore, needs to be replaced & the system re-programed. Sort of a planned obsolescence type of situation.

The start/stop system on a Subaru does not use the starter in most cases. If all criteria are met, the engine stops with a cylinder on its compression stroke with fuel in it. Foot off the brake, spark plug sparks, engine starts. I think I might have heard the starter engage maybe twice ever in the two years I have owned my Crosstrek.

I really hate this feature. I turn it off before even putting my seatbelt on.😊

I just let it do its thing. People complained about wearing seat belts. People complained about the brake pedal interlock to take a car out of park. If it saves me a few cents here and there, I'm good with it. In the two years of ownership on this vehicle I've gotten used to it. I have not had any trouble with the system.

This is how you operate it... Buy the replacement switch that defaults to off, install the switch, forget your car has this feature.

Not my favorite either but it’s on every newer car, no matter the brand.😠

The only thing dumber than the auto stop/start is those environmental gas can filler spouts that spill more gas than the old fashioned spouts that gas cans used to come with. Due to this and the ALL CONTROLLING touchscreen, we will probably keep our 2017 OB Ltd forever. Dealers must love it since they are going to sell boatloads of starters when they wear out from constant use.

I will not buy any car that has this system only if you can permanently turn it off

I have heard of a couple cars that permanently shut the system off. Some don't even give you the ability at all
