Electrician and rodeo cowboy Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) is diagnosed with AIDS and given 30 days to live.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Matthew McConaughey headlines director Jean-Marc Vallée's biographical drama centering on the story of Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician who was diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986, and who subsequently devoted his life to providing fellow HIV patients with non FDA-approved drugs and supplements during an era when doctors were still struggling to understand the devastating disease. Defying his surprise death sentence, Woodroof set out to procure any and all non-toxic alternative HIV treatments available, and established a "buyers club" for providing them to others afflicted with the disease. But that mission quickly made him a target for both the U.S. medical establishment and pharmaceutical industry, both of which resented his defiance of government sanctions, and joined forces to shut down his operation by any means necessary.

I was floored at how great an actor he is when I saw this in the theater. I’d always found him a bit annoying and one dimensional throughout his career.
He was beyond brilliant in this film and that Oscar was well deserved.
I personally think Leonardo DiCaprio got robbed for that award in the wolf of wall street. Yes Matthew mccaughenhey did a great job. But Leo did a better one.

To be honest with you, while I liked Leo's performance in The Wolf of Wall Street, he still felt like the typical spoiled rich guy performance he pulled out in movies like The Man in the Iron Mask while he should've won for Django unchained since it's rare that he plays villains and he was amazing as Calvin Candie. Matthew on the other hand deserved it, he basically made this role a statement of how great of an actor he is and would pave the way for more great performances throughout the decade.
At least we can take comfort knowing that Leo eventually did get his Oscar, even if the film he won for wasn’t his best performance (albeit a good one).

Matthew McConaughey is an undervalued actor. He's great. I've been a fan of his for a long time. He did get type cast in a lot of bullshit chick flick, romantic comedies but he's he real deal.

My biggest fear is a doctor giving me an estimation on my life. It would feel like the floor collapsed from under me if I was told out of the blue that I had a month to live.
It would be horrible but we could use the time to do the things we have been wanting to do but have been putting off, because we always thought we would have all the time in the world..
Just remember, Ron lived another 7 years. Doctors don't have the final say so.

Imo this is Matt's greatest performance of his career. Great movie, I'm glad I watched it.

This scene made me dizzy and overheated when I watched it in the theatre and made me ask myself "Why did I decide to watch this film?". It's not because it's a bad scene, but because I'm often getting so uncomfortable when watching scenes that are related to hospitals or talk about symptoms to deadly illnesses.
On the bright side, it just shows that the actors connect with the audience, so that's good
I'd recommend to watch movies like this at home instead of in the theater, that way you can pause and take a breath.

I bought this movie for $3 and had it over a year before I watched it. I put it in for background noise when I was cleaning. 20 minutes later I was on the couch with a dust cloth in my hand and i didn't take my eyes off the screen for the next hour and 40 minutes. 😮 5Stars
