One of my friends came out (fairly casually) as bisexual to our friend group. A few months later, another friends in our group came out as bisexual to myself and my other bi friend. This inspired me to come out as asexual to the two of them a few weeks later. The three of us came out to the rest of our group together. In doing so, my boyfriend started doing research on asexuality and discovered he was asexual as well, so he came out soon after that. So yeah, coming out can be incredibly helpful to other people. Even though my friends know that I’m an ally and think that everyone is equal and deserves to have the same, they all say that it’s still scary. It’s not selfish. If anything, I find that those people are some of the bravest people I know.
The sheer AMOUNT of casual transphobia and homophobia that happens at my school and outside of it is intolerable, even if it doesn’t directly affect me. If someone tells you to use certain pronouns or tells you that they prefer a certain name, that’s not them being selfish, it’s them wanting to have their identity respected. If someone used he/him pronouns for me, I’d feel uncomfortable. It’s the same for trans people (as in plz don’t misgender them if they’ve told u their preferred pronouns/name)

As an asexual vegan I want to thank you for being so respectful and lovely. You explained everything so nicely and I agree with everything you said. I honestly hadn't heard of her before (I live under a rock) and I'm just so... disappointed right now. Veganism is about living healthy and sustainibly, but it's also (very importantly) about showing love and kindness, and being respectful towards everything that lives. In regards to sustainability, climate change, animal rights and human & lgbtqia rights I often get so frustrated and confused about how people are so backwards towards just living in a respectful way. Towards others, towards the planet.. The amount of times I've said "I honestly don't get humans" in the last few years. I seriously don't get why people can't accept that we are all wonderfully diverse. Love is love, transwomen are women, transmen are men, sex is not some necesity (it's not like there aren't enough humans on our planet already) and showing some basic respect is not gonna kill you.
    Long rant short:
Just be kind and respectful to everything that lives♡
Sorry for this long rant. I hope you all have a lovely day!

The lack of compassion for ACTUAL HUMAN BEINGS from 'that Vegan Teacher' is the most anti-vegan mindset I've had the displeasure of experiencing. I've been vegan (or as much as I can be) since 2014, and recently FINALLY came out as Non-Binary. I can say with 100% certainty that it's been an the MOST unselfish experience to finally accept myself. I had compassion for myself, something I've been denying myself since my teens.
For anyone that thinks this is a representation of people that choose oat milk over cow milk, please know that there are crazy extremists in all walks of life, and 'The Vegan teacher' happens to be one of those few.
I honestly think in some sick way she sees the opposition and outrage in responses as good, because it's 'exposure to veganism', it's getting clicks...You know, the ol' 'Any press is good press'.
It's not. It's embarrassing and is doing a lot of harm. The opposite of compassion... And it sucks.

Up until about a year after this video dropped, I'd worked for one of the top Vegan cheese companies out there for about 5.5 years. (I'm in California; circumstances of my departure are unimportant, it was mutual.) I realized I was TransFemale June 8, 2021 and came out socially over the next ~2 months. About a week after my realization, I approached the company's HR Department to let them know that, sometime soon, I was going to start transitioning; the individual in question was very understanding and asked who she could tell. I gave her full discretion on who to tell in HR and Management, but I wasn't ready to go public.
Due to a self-inflicted concussion at work, I ended up being put on disability about 1 month after I approached HR. The time off gave me the chance to get comfortable, start dressing full time (mostly outfits that were appropriate for a manufacturing floor) and choose a name. When I came off disability, I had a name and was ready to come out publicly at work. HR did an email blast to the company about me, and, with a few understandable slips over the first couple of months, all of my coworkers were using my chosen name and pronouns. One of my biggest supporters turned out to be the CEO/Namesake/Founder. She was the Best Boss (I also had great supervisors and managers) I've ever had the privilege to work for.

TVT is bisexual, when she came out she didn't receive negativity, unlike how people literally tried to kidnap her dog, and doxed her, because she's a vegan animal rights activist.
Also, being vegan isn't 'just a choice'.
Veganism is an ethical principle, you cannot just change your ethical beliefs to whatever you want.
It's like saying being anti-murder is just a choice.
No, it's not just a choice, you can't just suddenly decide one day that you're okay with murder.

@@crowqueenamps I already explained why veganism is not a choice. Can you just decide to be okay with murder? I would guess that you can't. And in TVT's particular case, she feels that she actually was discriminated against more for being a vegan than for being bisexual.
I don't think I said or insinuated that LGBTQ+ people get discriminated against less than vegans, I don't know where you think I said that, but for what it's worth:
Vegans are constantly seen in a negative light, and unlike other forms of discrimination such as sexism or racism, it is not considered a societal problem. There's evidence of the bias and discrimination vegans face, whether it be in the workplace or in relationships/family. Vegans losing their friends, not getting hired or getting fired, or facing disrespectful/offensive behaviour is not uncommon. One study conducted in 2015 found that “attitudes toward vegetarians and vegans were equivalent to, or more negative than, evaluations of common prejudice target groups… Both vegetarians and vegans were evaluated equivalently to immigrants, asexuals, and atheists, and significantly more negatively than Blacks. Vegetarians were evaluated equivalently to homosexuals, whereas vegans were evaluated more negatively than homosexuals.” In fact, the study found that only drug addicts were seen more negatively than vegans.
I'm not saying that vegans get discriminated more so than LGBTQ+ people, but it's not surprising that in some places in the world, some people will be discriminated against more for being vegan whereas being bisexual (like TVT) is generally going to be accepted, or at least less discriminated against. I don't think you can speak on behalf of TVT when you know nothing of her experience.

      > Can you just decide to be okay with murder?
I mean... yeah? Morality isn't objective, you can choose whether or not you think are good or bad and you can choose what actions you take in pursuit of those values.
Veganism is a matter of morality, of _deciding_ that the consumption of animal products is bad and _deciding_ that you're willing to act on that by avoiding animal products. I myself _decided_ quite a ways back that I agreed with vegan moral values, and some time after that, _decided_ that I wanted to go vegan in support of those morals.
Changing your morals may be difficult, sure, but you can absolutely choose your morals and the actions you take for them. Since veganism is a moral philosophy, the same applies to it. I could decide here and now that, for one reason or another, the abuse of animals isn't actually enough of an issue to concern myself with, and I can decide right now to give up on being vegan. I wouldn't, of course, the thought of it disgusts me, but it's absolutely something I could do. OTOH, I can't just, say, turn off my attraction to different types of people, even if I actively try to suppress it.

I got outed as trans last year and all and all it negatively effected me throughout the time I was there (only through the second semester because I was virtual before that). I came out to a boy I knew from the previous year and he outed me to his friends and then his friends spread it around slowly. At first it was just him and his friends being jerks to me, which I could deal with I didn’t care. But then it spread bigger and bigger. After a week or two suddenly I was getting death threats and comments about how I’ll go to hell. People threatened to tell my mom (she’s a teacher at my school and she knew) I told them to do it (all of them chickened out). I was in archery club at the time and one day for gym we were doing archery, one kid who was known for bullying me a lot told his friend instead of shooting the targets he’d shoot me. Nearing the end of the year it spread to the year above me and suddenly people were yelling slurs at me whenever they’d see me in the halls. On the last day of school, the kid who told his friend he’d shoot me tried to splash water on a kid who wouldn’t leave him alone. Most of it hit my back. A teacher came over and told the kid to apologize to me and he did, I half heartedly said it was fine, after the bell rang and we started going to our next class, he came up to me again and said, “Hey, um, I really am sorry.” Which took me by surprise because I’d known the kid for two years at that point and never once had he apologized twice and the second time he did it it felt like he was saying it for something else but at the time I played it off cause of the incident that just happened, idk of what he meant was he was sorry for what he did that year but it’s possible

6:41 I absolutely agree with your points, and I also felt like including a personal experience of mine which doesn't have anything to do with religion nor LGBTQ. In about 4th grade? Maybe a little lower or higher, I got really go.od at the game handball (also known as wallball). Plenty of people got sick of me winning so they often told me to just go to another court to play. When I did, the other court would do the same. And the next one and the next one and so on and so forth, even when I told courts that I had already asked everyone. They told me to just deal with it.
Of course, my situation is a little different because I worked up my skill to a point I was seen as pointless to go up against, which is not the same thing as being naturally born with something people already disapprove of. But still, that feeling of being forced to change groups/communities just because of something you couldn't control (if I like the game, I'm gonna play the game and consequently get better at it. It's not like I can just unlearn all that time, effort, and passion) is not a fun nor fair thing to go through. And if nobody's willing to change, then nothing is going to get better and those minorities of people will always be excluded.
Obviously, it's not the exact same thing of what's happening here - and you already stated that it's not on the minorities to simply live with the biases, but the people who hold these biases to change and accept others for the betterment of the world - but I just thought of this childho.od memory and felt the need to share it. If not for just another example, then for my own sake.

I mean some peoples religions that might be homophobic really can be an integral part of Theo they are which is why even Jamie said that asking people to simply “Change their religion” if they don’t like one aspect of it is extremely disrespectful and rude.
Now I’m not saying that people deserve less rights, less freedoms or less protection simply because of another parties views. The LGBT needs protection from theocratic authoritarians because religion isn’t something universal or omnipresent. But on the other hand, religion and spirituality are a core part of the human experience and how people view themselves and their place within the universe. I respect that human experience, even as an atheist myself. If someone resonates with the existence or ghosts, angels, greek and Egyptian gods and goddesses or the Abrahamic religions, then that is their experience of the universe and a part of who they are.
Really, it’s organized religion that is the bad guy here because these organizations have alternative motives to their actions other than spiritual freedom and spiritual experience.
But if, for example, a gay man came to the spiritual conclusion that earthly pleasures such as sex, masturbation or possessions of tailored/gendered clothing are all sinful and distractions on his spiritual journey and decided to personally take an oath of chastity and never speak of his sexuality and repress it of his own choice, I wouldn’t think that this was a bad thing either for him or the LGBT. He has a spiritual and personal experience and he made a personal decision based on that experience.
It’s entirely possible to see sexual acts other than that for procreation as sinful while respecting those that engage in those acts and giving them the right to engage in those acts. Just because a nun takes a vow of chastity, for example, and sees sexual acts as a sin, doesn’t mean she’s allophobic. She’s just living out and expressing her spirituality through chastity which is what she believes is best for her spiritual journey and can be true for other women as well.
Of course it all depends on the framing and the context as well. A street preacher telling the gayborhood that they’re all going to hell for their attractions is the obviously a homophobic person trying to shame others into submission. But if someone is just saying that chastity was a major part of their spiritual journey and recommends it to others, it’s not homophobic.
But simply suggesting that gay people are exactly like straight people and are equally as capable of restraining themselves for spiritual enlightenment is considered homophobic. In example the Dalai Lama has stated that homosexuality is considered sexual misconduct under the precepts and vows of Buddhism but as a result of this was bombarded by LGBT activists who tried to convince him otherwise and basically tried to get him to ignore the texts of his faith because they are “old” and unmodern…Despite the fact that this is the point of the vows…To turn away from the distractions of modernity and focus on your spiritual journey to enlightenment.
If denying your sexuality is part of your religion, as long as it isn’t forced on others, it’s completely understandable and personal in nature. No one should be shamed for their beliefs but a lot of people are anyways because it’s not “mOdErN” enough for the activists. Religions that promote sexual chastity shouldn’t be silenced but they increasingly are. Stoicism is now considered an alt-right Homophobic dog whistle when the philosophy has been around for millennia with no political affiliations.
So yeah I think some people are attacked an silenced by others for their spiritual views on sexual behavior and that’s just as wrong and disgusting as silencing and attacking others for their attractions, orientations and gender.

For certain hardliners like "Vegan" "Teacher," promoting their own self-righteousness is the whole point -- they're "spreading" the "moral position" by insisting that diet is the only morally significant choice, so they're more righteous than everyone else by definition, and bragging about it only makes them more righteous. A few of them (I can't remember whether VT was one of them) have even taking to insisting that capitalism, economic exploitation, etc. must be maintained so that veganism can continue to be a personal choice; if not eating meat were the norm, then they wouldn't be able to feel as righteous, so that has to be prevented.
