    I think you pretty much nailed this. I’ve had the Comètes for a couple of years now and they are very satisfying. I have never noticed the mids verging on being undisciplined, but then again I might have missed that, or my system better suits the mids or mine are well broken in.
    In my room, which is small, I found them not particularly suited to large scale classical music, but that’s true of most, if not all, stand mounts. So I added a Triangle sub which, when dialled in properly, greatly lessens the congestion and confusion from which “smaller” speakers suffer. On simpler music the sub lets the Comètes breathe a little easier and life is even better.
    I find sound stage and imaging to be very good indeed, although I don’t think my smallish room allows them to reach their full potential in that regard. And lacking real (i.e., expensive) room treatment doesn’t help.
    I had been looking at speakers for quite some time and previously had been leaning toward the Triangle Gaia II small floor standers. Fresh out of the box, I knew the Comètes were for me. They are a real bargain in my opinion.
    PS - pronunciation is “koh-MET”

      I've had these since late 2021 and last year moved them from a small listening room to the larger family room and they came beautifully alive at same volume too, even tho in the smaller room I found same attributes only controlled apposed to breaking free tone wise

    Good review indeed as you are the only reviewer who made reference to the tweeters sound reproduction and which I also commented on one of my replyies on CZcams. Just one remark, it would have been beneficial to have included a breakdown of your system. These speakers have an engaging, textured and detailed sound but have dark tonality. The tweeters as good as they are, lack dispersion and so they are directional and listner must sit in a sweet spot for maximum resolution.

    Paul I was the 1st person in the U.S. to get these speakers ' from the U.S. Distruibutor I also got the matching speaker stands which helped the bass alot !
    But these speakers do like an amp that can control impendence dips down to 3.7 ohm Smaller amps sound ok up to low-mid volume but they run out of energy once you turn them up like the Audiolab 6000a but I have rolled almost 30 amps with the 40th Vintage and new age and The cheapest amp that pairs up great with these is the Marantz PM 8006 Geez what a pairing ' but the Galion TS120 Se Wow !! Also just got the New Audiolab 7000a today !! More power on tap Hope the pair up to me 40th in santos rosewood also will be comparing my new Dynes to the 40th very soon ! Thanks for the video ' But I would reccomend Atleast a 70 watt amp with these speakers or atleast a 30 pound plus integrated amp 'class AB/A

      I've had both the Bro3 and the Esprit Antal EZ and they also dips below four Ohm. Watt isn't as important as the damping factor. Some amps put out a lot of Watt's but have a relatively low damping factor (...Rega), while others have a rediculous damping (...Hegel).

Running them on a Creek Audio Evolution 50A and it's such a great match I can't go on enough about the Creek with these. Maybe 50watts but it grips them up perfectly. Bass is so well defined.

    Finally an honest review with comparisons and clear pros and cons. Great work! Thank you!
    I hear a lot of reviews but most of the time they are useless because reviewers try to find positives and avoid weaker points of the audio gear. Adjectives describing the sound are always the same and at the end you have a feeling that every product is great for you. In fact there is always something which will sound better even if you already know what you like. Comparisons are giving you a great point which you can refer to.

      One of the things I appreciate about Triangle is that they aren't trying to be the perfect speaker for everyone. They are making some distinct choices about how they want to present music, and the comparisons are a great way to make these choices clear and help people understand if these are the right choices for them.

    These are $2500 in the U.S. as of 7/30/23, which I think is a reasonable price considering the build quality, finish and the reported sound quality. For those seeking an all-rounder, these perhaps might not work unless the listener's tastes completely align; but I think for those that can afford multiple speakers and enjoy swapping them out, these would work nicely. I think you are right to appreciate speakers with personality. Such speakers can contribute significantly to the excitement of listening, to toes tapping, heads nodding and just having fun. Thank you for the excellent review!

    • @erics.4113
      @erics.4113 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I have all three now 😕
      Bro3 had my curiosity, then Comete EZ came my way, and now the 40th in the stable today. The Comete (now on sale for $999) are definitely worth it. A lot of what you like about the Bro, but more refined, more sparkle and air and detail up top. Better at low level too. The 40th are still new so some to be determined listening. But so far, I think the tweeter sounds even more refined, but overall seems pretty close to the EZ Comete. The extra price is definitely going into cabinet fit and finish. Still worth it to me to get the "best" of the Bro3 type sound. But the margin of improvement seems much slimmer between Comete and 40th where it seems pretty wide between Bro and Comete. Hope that gives some subjective insights into my journey so far with them

    • @jezzamy

      @@jezzamy I'm about 4 days in to living with the 40th. These are in a bedroom, no sub, and mostly for just low-level background listening. The 40th are proving their value over the standard Comete as I do more listening. It may seem like a narrow upgrade at first, but the detail and refinement and air and space in that treble is intoxicating to me. The tonality of these speakers is what gets me the most. Drums sound like drums. Btw I was a drummer so I'm partial to cymbal, sticks, toms, snares sounding realistic. These do it. Voices are so sweet through them. Cabinets are stunners

      I do try to provide region-specific prices but if I have not received official prices from these areas then I prefer not. I would love to see a review where they get taken apart. 90 dB is getting up a bit , not quit a compression driver with over 100 dB. I've always tended to think the lower the sensitivity 88dB the better the sound quality.

    • @erics.4113
      @erics.4113 Před 8 měsíci

      Not sure about the correlation to SQ - but I'm a fan of high sensitivity horn designs. Something you'll tend to see in speakers like this is a very fun, energetic, lively, quick, dynamic type of sound. And that typically holds up at lower level listening in addition to when you crank it up.
      The triangle may not be the end all of SQ but they sound very refined and detailed, but also incredibly easy to listen to.
      Drums and vocals are standout. Drums for that fast attack and lively snappy punchy quick response.

    • @erics.4113
      @erics.4113 Před 8 měsíci

      @@chuckmaddison2924 the Triangle are magnesium blend tweeter. Not a compression driver like some Klipsch and some JBL (which I also own). Agreed that compression drivers typically trade some SQ and refinement. But you gain high efficiency and the large horns give you that live sound or movie theater presntation because it's common to see horns in the pro space. But a tweeter in a horn gains efficiency too, because the horn naturally projects the sound and you dont need to drive it as hard. The magnesium tweeter in the 40th definitely a step up over the titanium in the EZ. It has very good detail... maybe not on par with a Beryllium Focal or a Diamond Bowers but those would be $8K speakers and these are $2.5k
