- Dissecting the solo to Dire Straits Sultans of Swing. This solo will layout the approach explained in lesson number one. Using chords, not scales, to outline the solo. Targeting the 3, 5 and root note. Please watch lesson one before to help with the approach. Please subscribe to the channel if you enjoy the content.

Fantastic lesson, thank you. Most tutorials show you what to play but not why you are playing those particular notes. A light bulb went off for me watching this video and I started to see the fret board in a whole new way. I am finding it a relief not to think about scales at all. Can't wait for more lessons.
This means so much to hear! That is exactly my intention. 👍👍
@@jasondarling thnx sir for this lesson it helps me a lot's👍👍👍
Impressive! Where can I get the first part of the lesson and all the theoretical stuff?

Thank you Jason for the lesson! I found it very helpful and well done for my guitar level. If possible, please publish more lessons like this, it will be very appreciated by the community of “guitar students “ like myself. Cheers and Thanks again!
@@nickd.2172 appreciate that. So glad to hear. Hopefully doing more content soon!
I can't play guitar 🎸 but I like the way this gentleman puts things across for people who would love to learn 🎸
Been watching tutorials for 6 months on this tune, you finally made it make sense. Thank you.
Oh man, that means so much to hear! Thank you for that and glad it helped.
Thanks for taking the time to explain those licks Jason! I play this all the time, but wasn’t sure about the lead! Lights and bells just went off! Yay! Thanks you, awesome lesson!
Appreciate the comment and so glad to hear! 🙏
This is absolutely brilliant and exactly how guitar should be taught!!

this is a really awesome video. My guitar teacher showed me how knopfler does this last week and I forgot everything he told me pretty much instantly. Thanks for breaking it all down in a format that I can rewatch until I get it
Fantastic, glad this worked out for you. 👍
I like how you do intervals and notes and not just string and fret. Very, very impressive, sir! Thank you so much!
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed this! 🙏
Thanks for making it easier to understand. It's almost like you've got into his head and worked out how to play the the song. Well done bro.
So glad you are getting something from this approach and thank you for your kind words. 🙏
Hi Jason one of the best explanations for decades. THX for that and please go on .
Thank you for your comment. I have a multiple part series coming soon.
Super cool, outlining the chords is so great.
Hey Mr: you are wonderful people are teaching very good. Honest you are fantastic & from Los Angeles California we salute & respect forever
Wow, that is amazing! It's a perfect Pentatonic Training, and how the Scale really works....that motivates me.
Awesome...years I hv self taught myself, when someone puts all the dots together...you are catapulted to another level in guitar playing. If playing guitar is a hobby...you practice whole night...8-10 hrs
Love this, thank you for your comment. 🙏
very fantastic an easily when we want to know that connecting chords... thank you so much MR.Jason. and i have congrats , salute!
You are one of the best teacher's... well done breakdown this in pieces, Best of the best... thank you.
Appreciate that, glad the lesson is helpful. 🙏
Good stuff Mr. Jason ! Totally enjoyed it.
Very enlightening lesson, explaining the seemingly complicated at its barest bones.
Thank you Dan! Exactly. 👍🙏
Thank you. I really appreciate your chord tone approach to teaching this.
Thank you! I hope it helps with your approach. 👍
Wow that is bye far the most amazing lesson I've came across thanks love it
Made my day! Thank you 🙏
Great lesson - many thanks! So helpful to see such a close analysis of the chords behind the SoS solo part 1 and how the lead/melody notes of Knopfler’s line emerged from those. Great to see the CAGE system put to good user too.
The analysis on the F shape with the meaningful bends for the 3 and 5 was very useful because I have just tended to think very ‘linearly’ such that notes must be sequential from the underlying scale but, as you showed, the bends ‘up’ have as much validity and purpose as playing a scale in a linear sequence.
Great tone on your guitar BTW 👍👍
This made my day!! Thank you so much for your comment and is exactly what I was hoping to get across. 👍♥️
Thank you for door opener making Understanding those Melodic licks...well well done. Learning licks is one thing, understanding another.
Thx. 👍

Thanks Ken, appreciate that. 👍🙏
Fantastic, wonderful, lesson! Congratulations. Thank you. And happy ness
Thank you 🙏
the bether ...the best guitar lesson...thanks
It''s ALMOST right !.. A mighty attempt, and extremely well done !.. Knopfler is mostly (but not entirely) doing this.. Yes 100% ,he follows the Chords around, and very delightfully.. But there are added nuances, which are not explained here.. However if you want to get a handle on this general approach, this is great ! :)
Thank you for commenting. Agreed. 💯 I would say the simplicity of the parts lends itself to Knopfler’s masterful touch both from his left hand, his right hands finger picking and most of all his heart and soul. ✌️
Wow ,I like what you teaching to play guitar so I'm really interested listening to you.
That's the stuff, Jason! Thanks so much! I was just learning the solos and thinking I should really be figuring out what he's actually doing in terms of scales. You just laid it out so beautifully! Very cool. I've taken CAGED lessons, but was still just working on memorizing scales without really understanding how to improvise over them and move between them in a solo.
Mike, I really appreciate that and so glad to hear this process works you. Thank you for commenting. 👍🙏

Very nice.
Ótima aula. Parabéns 👏
Awesome stuff yet again! I'm still not totally comfortable finding/outlining chord shapes, but I do know caged decently well. Any tips/practice routines that you think made the difference to get it second nature for you? Thanks man!
So glad you find this helpful. I would start by just picking a chord then play the root note through all the chord shapes of the CAGED. then root - 3rd. Then root -3rd - 5th. Then root - 3rd - 5th - 7th. Then 1-3-5-b7. Then 1-b3-5-b7 etc. I have been finding that doing this, playing these arpeggios through the CAGED shapes, really bridges the fret board together and putting the available shapes into the minds eye. Hope that helps!
Thanks friend
Thanks for....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I appreciated so much your.lesson about targeting notes hope you can make lesson .about night.owls of LRB It's lick it's intro and additional.technique how to find where to start in finding notes of a guitar solo example "it's a long way there " of LRB It's intro is so good and it's solo is so melodic I hope you can make a video lesson.of this particular song.
