Tip for every DIY painters...wrap aluminum foil over the head of the paintbrush if you going to use it later ( in 24 hours). It will prevent the brush from drying and you do not need to wash it as long you are using the same color.
I've used lots of brands of chalk paint and Annie Sloan is by far the best. Yes, it's more expensive, but if it's a piece that you're going to treasure for years, it's completely worth it.
However, Annie Sloan herself says NOT to use a cleanser on anything you are going to paint with her paint because it could react with her paints. She says to use plain soap and water only IF you really have to. Otherwise, she says to just wipe them off with a clean soft cloth.
So if you want a textured finish you can apply this paint thickly! If you want a smoother finish, paint thin coats! *DISCLAIMER- This advice and video apply to US version of Annie Sloan sold prior to NOV 2018*
Hi Barbara! We no longer stock Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. You can always check with your local stockist. You can also try Jolie Matte Finish Paint in Verdigris. You can purchase that on our website SuitePieces.com. You won't be disappointed ; )
Thank you so much for all the information you gave. I was wondering what kind of brushes, how to clean them, what brush to make the paint to be smooth and you answered them all. I just have another question how would you clean the painted piece?
A friend just started refurbishing furniture with chalk paint. She said in her experience using poly on a kitchen table or any furniture that gets a lot of use and is washed regularly, was far more durable than the wax. Hope this helps.
I am having a problem. After i paint my piece, I lightly sand, then apply my wax. However i still see my brush marks and the wax settles into the lines and looks awful! Am I using too much paint? I am using all Annie Sloan paint wax and brushes, that I LOVE.
Hi Sally! You can try using water to thin out your layers of paint and create a smoother finish! Try that and see if that helps resolve some of your issues!
Hi! Ok I painted my end tables with turquoise paint and light and dark wax.(aAnnie Sloans) It's pretty but too bright for my room. Can I put a grey blue wash over it to dull it down or do you have a better idea?
Hi Nancy! That sounds pretty! Just remember if you are adding paint on top of wax, you should either wait the 30 days for it to completely cure or use mineral spirits to remove the wax before you paint.
Hi Janet! If the wax had time to cure (30 days) then you can go ahead and paint right over the previously waxed piece. If it did not have time to cure, you can use mineral spirits to remove the wax then paint right over the Chalk Paint®.
Hi sandy! Thanks for watching! If they are already sealed (is the surface shiny?, if so then they are) then you can just paint over them. If you want to ensure that they won’t bleed through, you can preseal them with shellac. That will do the trick 👌🏼

Thank you so much, Patti!!
Thank you! Love your videos.
Annie Sloan say's to use a thick FIRST layer for wanting some texture, and then a thinner second coat.

I suggest a spray bottle with water, so you can use it as needed while painting. I’m surprised she didn’t say that.
What was it that she spreyed to soften the brush?

This lady really paint with the clothes. She looks like a model only

You don't have to remove the hardware. Its up to you!
Can you re paint a piece of furniture that has already been waxed? Do I need to sand the old chalk paint off before I repaint with chalk paint?

what kind of Finish/Sealer to use? other than wax,
Hi Linda, the wax is best sealer for any piece painted with Chalk Paint®. Other sealers can cause bleed through or yellowing
