She told him when rescued from Korea she was CIA. And told him what could happen. He chose to stay, he chose her. If she reacted, they both die. This way, she can avenge him, stop the terrorists, save the day. No superhero was made without loss.

cmon dude she just stood there with no emotion and they CGI-ed the glossy eye effect to give the impression she was about to cry. Jolie was never a good actor but she got parts because she was hot 15 years ago.

This version of his death is way more impactful than him being shot within a few seconds. Watching the water slowly rise and him drown is brutal
I honestly can't tell which version of this scene is the best but here's what I think. I can see why this wasn't used for the initial release (cinema). The original one (gunshot) had a sharp turn where the audience including her gave the impression that were about to be reunited. Only to have him suddenly executed without a warning right before her eyes. Her heart stopping reaction was imo more impactful & captured beautifully within seconds where this version is long played put. At the end of the day, I enjoyed both scenes😊

I have to say, her acting is top tier. Everything, down to the subtle chin quiver made me believe it was someone watching the love of their life die. I wouldn't say that the character looked at him coldly, Ms. Jolie did an amazing job of being just on the verge of tears, only to dial it back. It made the character look human for just long enough.
People act like she had a choice, if she reacted she wouldve died also. She probably wanted the gun to fight back but when they refused she couldnt do anything.
So YOU would let your boyfriend/husband die, good to know. I petty the poor schmuck who dates/marries you.
She wanted the gun so she could kill him painlessly. She wasn’t going to blow her cover but she didn’t want him to suffer.

This version of the scene is so heartbreaking. The way he looks at her, he loved her so much, and she loved him. So tragic.
She doesn't loves him ...she could have stoped them or died with him....she just let him die to enjoy the lust with person upto her level....
In an alternate ending, Salt takes revenge on her mentor by according him a watery grave.

@@lineanoves6650 I saw it in theaters and on FX which usually will have a director’s cut that switches up some of the scenes. This ending makes more sense and rounds out the movie.

I just rewatched this the other day & it’s soooo good!!! It never fails to amaze me how she ended all her brothers. She really loved her husband! Sad she had to give up her dog too ☹️

@@beyknowles413 i think she left the dog behind and gave it to the girl so the dog himself could have a new life. i’m sure she could go back and retrieve him, but i think the last thing on her mind is the dog sadly. if there was a sequel i would like to see her go back and the girl she gave him too was still caring for him. it would be super sweet 😭

Had he been TRULY observant....the quivering in her lips would have been the tell-tale sign that inside, she was SCREAMING in horror!

Omg,,,,, this alternate death scene of mike is much brutal,,, but im glad they went for the quick sudden death in which angelina couldnt do anything but to contain her emotions.

This scene is so heartbreaking for Salt and her husband. He died believing that Salt, the woman he loved and fought to bring home from North Korea had betrayed him. She has to live with believing that her husband (a man who she truly did love and played a key role in her deciding to switch her loyalties) died thinking that she never truly loved him and stood idly by watching him drown. You can visibly see her fighting every desire within her to save him. When she asked for the gun I imagine that she either wanted to fight back or put him out his misery as quickly as possible.

So actually this is alternative, the original was when they shot her husband right after she stepped in the room. So she had no chance nor plan to save him. In this one it appeared that she had plan by taking the gun if they gave her the gun.

@@rockerboy980998 I think so I’m out west so very possible there were different cuts of the movie. There’s also two different endings. I later on saw both Salt and Mr and Mrs Smith on FX and both movies had scenes that I didn’t recall seeing in theaters.

at first i was so disappointed of this scene because when she was trying to escape in her workplace all she was thinking of was her husband. and now that she have found him she let him die. but when we think of her position, she might have chosen a decision for the greater cause that is to bring peace and stop the plan which comprises hundreds and more of spies like her even if that decision caused her her husband.
Well, hope she's happy cause I don't think he'll forgive her if they should ever meet in the afterlife. The last thing he thought of before drowning was that she betrayed him.
