I remember reading an anecdote about rescue dogs in modern times that made me want to cry: apparently, in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, rescue dogs were being used to find people trapped in the rubble...but after a few days, the dogs were having so little success in finding people that they began to get discouraged and show signs of depression. Supposedly, their handlers resorted to hiding themselves in the rubble for the dogs to find, to keep their furry comrades from feeling too sad. 😢

Just looked it up, he meant 948 AD. "These elephants were able to carry a tower with some ten people on their backs. They were used successfully during the Han invasion of Ma Chu in 948." Taken from Wikipedia. Also there was no Han Dynasty in 1948 BC, how advanced did you think these guys were?
@@YoUtUbEhAnDlEsArEgReAt Even so, he should be aware of the two Han dynasty in the period, stating explicitly that the dynasty is the "Southern" Han dynasty, as there were another Han dynasty in the North.
You know, there were partial horse armours present in Europe before the Roman empire even fell apart, even Roman cataphracts called 'Clibanarii'. The Roman empire adopted armoured superheavy cavalry almost 3 centuries before the Eastern Roman empire (Byzanthium) appeared. And that's just when speaking about classical Europe core areas, Sauromataeans and later Sarmatians used protection for their war horses too.
@@gustavoargumanis1863 I think you mean Equites Sagittarii. That, however, directly translates to horse archers (Equites=Horses, plur. Sagittarii=Archers, plur.) Clibanarii (Coming from Greek Clibanion, literally meaning oven and referring to the uncomfortable heat the wearer of the armor experienced) were a unit of roman cataphracts and were melee and shock cavalry, not horse archers.

Just have to say, the way you were looking into the camera this episode, especially during the portion when you were in the suit with the glass. (water?) Kinda making it weird dude... i'm just here to learn about war animals. Not looking for a date...
As you can probably tell from the last name, I am descended from Chinamen. So, I kinda wana learn what my ancestors were using centuries ago for armor, weapons etc. If you ever have the time, and if you have the knowledge, it would be really cool if you made a series on ancient Chinese weapons, armor and warfare lol.

I just happen to live in Japan so was pleasantly surprised to find a plethora of information about Japanese history. Anyways, thanks for the free education! Cheers!
I'd love to see a full video specifically focusing on war dogs, such as the Romans used, etc. Basically, and in depth video (or video series) based upon the use of dogs on ancient warfare.
Back in the ancient days of the past when I enlisted, I wanted to work in the Army scout dog platoons as a handler. Sadly they had been deactivated just a few years before I came along. Knew guys who worked with them in Vietnam and the recent conflicts, all swore it was the best way to go as you had a great buddy and their senses were far better than ours
Just a little rectification: the crocodile's armour is not an exoskeleton. Just as all vertebrates they have an endoskeleton. Their scales don't have a role in supporting the weight of their body :) Arthropodes, though, do have an exoskeleton as their chitin serves the same role as our bones.
Kuba Dutkowski An exoskeleton doesn't have to support body weight to be called as an exoskeleton. Our hairs, bird's feathers are all called exoskeleton. Crocodile armour is made up of epidermal and dermal layers and it is called as crocodile exoskeleton. Exoskeleton isn't a distinguishing feature of all invertebrates. Vertebrates have both endo and exo- skeleton.
Well, as a vet student I always learnt that a skeleton is a structure supporting the mass of the body and providing protection but it has to fill both of those roles. We might have been taught differently, though :)
Were you getting ready for a date during the video? :)) Also, I'ma happy you pronounced Chodové and Chodsko pretty well, but you're still saying exetera ;)

I may be the odd man out regarding the every few days vs every day scheduling of videos, but I always have preferred every few days. When you went to every day the amount of detail per subject in each video dropped *and* I personally don't have terribly much time to watch YT! videos some days, so some videos inevitably get skipped for one reason or the other. Brady Haran is the only CZcamsr who I've not seen drop quality putting out at least one video every day of the week but he's also not a solo creator in the way most are, and even then I still can't budget enough time to watch everything he puts out

The use of anti-tank dogs by the Soviets was by all means a failure. Whenever the bomb-carrying dogs were released to charge into battle, the few that didn't immediately flee in fear would actually crawl under Soviet tanks instead of the Germans' and kill their crews. +Metatron You should talk about post-medieval body armor, such as renaissance armor that resembled the plate armor of knights, or more modern 18-20th century body armor and helmets such as those worn by Spanish conquistadors, Portuguese Empire, Imperial Russians, and even as late as WW1 with experimental armors such as the "Sappen-Panzer" worn by German Trench Raiders. I think it would be an interesting topic in my honest opinion.
About taking more time to make videos, I believe the best approach to CZcams would be working with seasons, so that you can work in a number of videos for as much time as you like and then you release them periodically, taking a break and then preparing the next season, which could be bi-annual or annual.
Hello Metatron, I'm writing my Bachelor-Thesis about Pyrrhos I. and his war against Rome and I'm very curious where you got the information about the burning pigs from? Do you have any source for that? Would help me out a great deal! Cheers, Lars
To all commenters , I don't think Metatron is finished with this topic , as he hints at other videos to come . Also I'm surprised to hear the story of American troops using tank dogs , and I doubt the veracity of it . Unfortunately the US did experiment with releasing bats with incendiary devices on the Japanese in WW2 . The conventional incendiary bomb proved to be more effective, and the bat bomb idea was abandoned. On the other hand the Japanese did conduct a program of balloons armed with incendiary bombs , launched from their home islands , using the air currents to carry them to the US mainland . The only casualties of this weapons program were a christian minister and some children on a hiking trip in the Pacific Northwest forest . War makes beasts out of men .
I've got to say, I love the higher detail and quality! At the same time, your channel is one of my favorites and I miss having a new video daily. The most important thing is your health. Your research is also important :)
I have an armour question that is unrelated to war animals. I thought i'd ask it here to give it a better chance of being answered. In your opinion, if plate armour was not made obsolete by advances in warfare, how do you think it would have evolved further than its current known pinnacle? What form and function do you think such hypothetical plate armour would possess?
How did the late Roman Army look like after Emporer Diocleatian in 285 AD? (Comitateneses, Palatinae, Limitani etc.) Who were the Varangian Guards? Some suggestions for future videos....
Thanks for featuring animals. However, pigeons, reindeer & bats should’ve been featured,as they are a modern warfare feature. Dogs of war also rescued warriors & carried messages.
I am speechless on the fact that you didn't mention war velocitaptors which are known to be loyal companions of the Vikings during the conflict against alien samurais, not to mention that they are still being used for security and patrol purposes in dinosaur themed amusement parks.
11:40 they would also runback into the trench that they came from due to fear of explosions/heavy firing . The first ones had a timer on the bomb and actually most of them went off in friendly trenches. The mecanisme was change after that for a lever .
Metatron I have a question. My question is did anyone in knight hood or any other armies factions that used Chain mail did anyone ever use Gold Chain mail? I saw that in the Hobbit movie in the third movie Battle of Five Armies I see Fili and Kili wearing like a gold tint Chain mail. I'm not sure if it was simply an idea on set just to look cool or maybe it was just rusted but I don't think any Warrior would use a rusted chain mail. It might even be the lighting, but still I do have that question.
I live in Texas and we have a huge hog overpopulation issue. They can do a lot of damage to crops and they will attack people. When I grew up we always had a small pack of dogs. In Texas we often use pit bulls or Dogo Argentino as pinning dogs ( dogs that are trained to hold the hog To The Ground by its throat). Hogs are kind of dangerous so we actually use Kevlar armor to cover the chest, neck, and then we obviously get their ears clipped so they can't get ripped off. I've been hunting with dogs my whole life. I couldn't be more grateful for the Kevlar that protects my dogs. Using modern armor made for animals you can definitely tell we've been doing this for a long time.
please do a video about naturally armoured animals, naturally occuring armour like insects, reptiles and certain mammals, even plants! would be cool to hear your comparrissons and thoughts, novel.
Also, Chimpanzee tribes actually go to war with other tribes, conquering territory and resources just like humans used to do and still do in some remote areas of the world.
And what about dromedaries? Integral members of North African and Middle Eastern armies, as well as Chinese and Byzantine forces, used for both transport and anti cavalry tactics. There's enough material for a whole video in camel warfare in there, NY friend. In any case, excellent video as usual, and it's nice to have you back around. Cheers mate!

Very informative and entertaining
out of every single last one of your videos. this one was my favorite. good job metatron.
(Comitateneses, Palatinae, Limitani etc.)
Who were the Varangian Guards?
Some suggestions for future videos....
Brilliant presentation
Never tought that you are a Protoss. Power Overwhelming!
Thanks for featuring animals.
However, pigeons, reindeer & bats should’ve been featured,as they are a modern warfare feature. Dogs of war also rescued warriors & carried messages.
Looking a lot better, nowhere near as tired. Great video also, I can't wait to see your next debunk or response video.
I also feel a lot better to be honest. Working on my next video :)
holy cow, the quality of this upload is just fabulous!! good job Metatron.
Thanks.
another great video greetings from Greece
your videos are always on fleek!
I would definitely support a slower release schedule in exchange for more in depth videos :)
a few times a week is perfect. Nice video this...
Thank you Frida
That Human Revolution music had me dying with the water sip, good choice
Metatron I have a question. My question is did anyone in knight hood or any other armies factions that used Chain mail did anyone ever use Gold Chain mail? I saw that in the Hobbit movie in the third movie Battle of Five Armies I see Fili and Kili wearing like a gold tint Chain mail. I'm not sure if it was simply an idea on set just to look cool or maybe it was just rusted but I don't think any Warrior would use a rusted chain mail. It might even be the lighting, but still I do have that question.
hello from Czech republic!!!thank you for mention from ours history!
Marvelous video !!!
please do a video about naturally armoured animals, naturally occuring armour like insects, reptiles and certain mammals, even plants! would be cool to hear your comparrissons and thoughts, novel.
Cool and interesting...as usual:) Thanks Mate
Love your videos but whats up with all the angles and costume changes lol?
also, are you gonna do an insulted undead episode 2? or was that series cancelled or something?
War potatoes?
Potatoes had killed many during the 19th century, but that was more of a slaughter than a war.
Ireland can approve!
This is a video I have been waiting for! Not even done watching but I have to say, Good On You Metatron!
Thanks!
