    Dude, I love your desk and setup. Especially that slide-out shelf with your MIDI keyboard controller...I did the same thing with my studio desk, works out great...keeps it out of the way until you need it. Awesome.

    Thanks for this, Rob. This is pretty much exactly what I'm attempting to achieve.I have an 88 key controller as well. Yours is the first I've seen with a pullout shelf for the controller.
    FYI: you may want to put some bass traps in the corners of the room.

    BEST. IDEA. EVER... Have a sort of mezzanine slide out desk just above the keyboard drawer where you can fit your computer keyboard and mouse, and then you can fit 2 decks and a mixer on the top...

    Love the build, man! Just out of curiosity though, I'm not sure what you meant exactly by how he used the right angle braces vs how you have your shelf plywood go all to the way to the top. It looked as though in both videos you both have the top of the desk sitting directly on the plywood shelves. And just out of curiosity, how sturdy is this design anyways? I plan on using my 46 inch flatscreen as my new computer monitor and I want to make sure it's sturdy as possible.

    Regarding the hum, I had this EXACT problem in my last apartment, in fact it was bad enough that my CRT monitor (remember those?) screen would shake. I think there was a motor nearbye for the air conditioning or something my neighbor had on the other side of the wall that projected interference. You might also double check your cable and make sure the ends are screwed tight and the shielding isn't damaged. If all else fails and you can't move the desk switch to balanced or xlr cables.

    The "hum" from your monitor - is it a static humming? If so it is more then likely your internet router or some other form of an electronic intercepting and causing that speaker to hum.

    Who's CJD?
    That's a solid looking desk man, you did a great job. Why did you use hardwood flooring for the surfaces and not formica or laminent? It looks slick. How thick was the hardwood you used and did you apply it to just the surfaces? I'm getting ready to build one and like your design, but need two 12U racks on the bottom sides, which looks easy to modify.

  • @waterkeeper03
    @waterkeeper03 Před 12 lety

    if the hutch is 76" wide i would estimate those speaker cones to be 64"+/- apart. you should have made the main table top much deeper because your sweet spot at the apex of the speaker field is way behind you while sitting in a working position, even with the drawer pulled out.
    The most important to consider in a studio is speaker placement, if you are DIY a desk, before you start, understand the concept of monitoring at a 60 degree triangle. you need to be as far from speaker as they are apart

    • @1godgodgodgodgod
      @1godgodgodgodgod Před 10 lety

      3u is 5 3/4 inchs... if the desk top is 30" high then yes 3u would put the studio monitors at ear height which is important...

    Thinking about building a very similar desk to this- so I have a few questions. What's the width of the two shelves that the desk sits on? Again, probably obvious, but what is the dimension of the keyboard shelf? I'm wondering if it's appropriate to cut the keyboard shelf about 1/4" shorter than the distance between the two shelves, to accomodate for the slider.

    • @BenGraceCreative
      @BenGraceCreative Před 9 lety

      ***** Also, so your hutch only has usable rackspace in the middle- or have you chosen that? I want my hutch to have usable rackspace in all 4 locations. So, 19 1/8 * 4 = 76.5. With 3/4" spacers (there's 5 of them), my desk would need to be 80.25" wide, with no extra gaps like you have. I wish there was a little more documentation on the exact dimensions you used, but that's just me being greedy : )

  • @Robfalcon501
    @Robfalcon501  Před 13 lety

    @soulessdelu Each one has 8 power outlets in the back and 1 in the front. You plug all your audio equipment and computer into it. It's supposed to clean up the power that goes into your equipment and protect it against power spikes and small common things that over time will damage your equipment. It can take away buzz/hum in your monitors - and also it's nice to just flip 1 switch that turns all your shit off at once.

Is the 27" inches from the very front of the desk to the very back of the desk, or just from the front of the desk to the start of the hutch. I think it's the first one, but my wife insists that it's the other way around.

    A late respons. But the humming sound in your speaker is (most likely), that you have the power from same socket in the wall (or extension), that would be computer and both monitors, this makes the groundsignal jump around. Try putting computer in 1 wallsocket, and the monitors from a different one. Nice build!
