Awesome!! Thanks Stevie
I think that $2000 is a extremely high and expensive price.
You could use
Behringer umc22 $50 aprox
Audacity DAW (free)
Addictive Drums ($149.95)
Bass: depends if a real bass, digital or simulated one (i use a guitar with tone at minimum, bass at max, treble and mid at minimum. It does a pretty good job for metal)
BIAS FX ($79-179)
Microphone. There are cheaper options that might aswell give a decent sound quality that the one in the video (even Stevie said it in the video) but we are going to leave the one in the video ($299.99)
Arturio Midi (199.99)
So after all you can get it all from 778.95 to 878.95. In my opinion this is more reasonable. Anyway you can do what you want. Is your money and i cannot tell you what to do with it but i hope this is useful for someone.
PD: i shouldn't be telling you this but if you use piracy you could get you total balance WAAAAAAAY down. But piracy is not ok.
If you're not willing to spend money on DAW then Reaper would be your choice. Audacity is really barebones whereas Reaper is even used by some professionals. Also, fuck piracy. Get a job and save money.
@@m4ssee Yeah actually i agree with you and i dont support piracy
Reaper is an excellent choice for a cheap but powerful DAW. Audacity falls off after a while
Where do you download?
@@michaelherscheid9709 reaper.fm . The trial is unrestricted.
You get Pro Tools First Focusrite Creative Pack and Ableton Live Lite with the interface you do not need to buy a DAW its included. And if you got the Focusrite Scarlett Solo Studio Recording Bundle you get a mic and headphones for an extra $50 or so and they are pretty decent to start out with.
I know this is an old video but I just saw it like 3 days ago. I purchased most of what you listed here last night along with a few other things. I've been recording my own stuff for years now. Big help man!! Thanks 👍
Awesome vid! Thanks!
It was interesting hearing you use Tracktion/Waveform, as no one seems to talk about it. Seems pretty streamlined. I'll have to look into it more.
Yeah, not a very common DAW. I can't confirm whether it's the best or not, because I've never tried any other! Haha
I use an slightly older version of tracktion and its constantly crashing and bugging out, wich gives me nice little breaks in my workflow and makes me dread starting up a recording session. So now I record like 3 songs a year just so I wont have to deal with it! But hey, its cheap!! (as am I for not getting a new daw)
@@DrAntronic I recommend you try out Reaper. It's really stable and the personal use/low income license is 60$. The trial is completely unrestricted as well, and you can continue using it for pretty much forever until you make up your mind about it being worth your money.
Anybody else think Reason is a good DAW? Admittedly more on the expensive side, but it’s really got everything you need, and you can get extra stuff for it online. However, it does seem like Waveform is a pretty good one.
@@renc7769 Eeeh... I admit the last time I tried out Reason I was a *lot* more of a noob to recording than I am now, but it doesn't seem very streamlined, kind of unwieldy. I would totally check out what's new, but it doesn't seem much different. It does seem to be kind of interesting though.

The mic he bought comes with a 3 meter XLR cable, the monitors come with the needed cables and foam bases, and if you play guitar already, we can probably assume you have a 1/4" guitar cable lying around somewhere.

I disagree. he is trying to get people who know nothing about anything to spend like $1.5k on software they won't ever know how to use or need.
He told what he uses and he learned to use it. Also you know there's this thing called the internet where people teach you things you don't already know?
He's helping people who want to get a studio together to get a studio together. If you have no need or want for that then don't buy a studio. You don't have to do everything you're told you know.
@@Wildeheart79 there are people who learned to be doctors and people who build space ships and on and on. are you claiming since stevie t, a person whos entire life/career is based on making music and working on the computer and being very good at it, can do it, anyone can? say someone naïve like yourself believes that to be true and spends 2k on all this stuff when they can't afford it, just to find out they can barely use any of it, they probably would wish they used the money on something useful instead. but to each their own.
"he's helping people who want to get a studio together to get a studio together"
@@xxreidxx2362 If you think what he recommended is the best use for 2k for beginners with a desire to record music, you aren't too smart. you can LEARN to do anything, so why not LEARN to do something useful instead of LEARN how to waste money on things you don't need. I had a desire to record music, that desire was fulfilled once I did it about 10 years ago. I LEARNed how to spend massively less, and I also LEARNed that software isn't as easy as some make it appear to be, even when you LEARN it. it can take a long time to do.

This is amazing! I wanted to buy a virtual amp but i didnt know i needed a program like that to use it! Now I know what to buy to start recording music!
Another great DAW that's only $99 is Cubase Elements. One of the oldest DAWs and the "full" version is used in countless pro studios around the world but the Elements version is more than enough to make a real album with. Comes with a lot of great synths and studio effects.
Edit: Also, whether it was the intention or not, I wouldn't really take this video too seriously if I was about to start producing music for the first time. Like for example, if you're just going to make instrumental music you obviously don't need a mic and if you're going to make metal then you should get some amp plugins that are known for their good hi-gain tones. Also, headphones are completely viable for recording and mixing as long as you get a decent pair ($150 is more than enough). Especially since you can always just export the track as wav (or mp3) and listen to it in your car or home stereo to check what it sounds like on those systems.
Agree with cubase. Elements is lacking a few cool features but is a good start. Also it has virtual drums which I quite like
You've just showed how to start my dream recording studio

I put together my first home studio 12 years ago, and it cost me almost $5000, not including the $1500 worth of synths that I owned. Literally 5 years later it was all but obsolete. Technology changes so fast, my advice is spend as little as possible. What Stevie put together here is great. There’s actually a package as well from Musicians Friend and some of the other music stores for a mini Mac loaded with all the recording software you need (I believe it’s ProTools), it comes with the monitors and the mic, the computer screen, all the stuff you need to just plug, play and record (minus instruments and controllers), and I believe it’s $1000.00. I can’t vouch for everyone, but personally for recording, I won’t use anything but a Mac. I have had way too many issues with PC’s.
Also just wanted to say, a lot of today’s synths can also be used as midi controllers, I know both my Korg MS2000 and my Roland SH-201 will both work, plus they’re awesome synths on their own. Especially the Korg. If you can find an MS2000 still around they’re only a couple hundred more than a midi controller, for those of you interested in making electronic music. It’s a great looking synth as well.
Great list, but you forgot a closed headphone for tracking! Love your videos, Steve! Keep up the good work :-)
