You have such a unique writing style, that I thought this WAS the next chapter of the Masterson Chronicles until I saw this comment. This one is like a slightly more comprehensible Lovecraft tale. I am a giant fan of you both.

This story was rich with a creeping dread, birthed by the rather informative intro about how the man had built his home. The dude sorta brought his death on himself, honestly. He lacked all respect for the world around him, and what came before. He essentially upended the entire spiritual balance of the local area just to build his home... It was... not the best idea xD Even still, this story was a lot of fun to listen to!

Taking the body of a supernatural sea creature with you into the sea as you jump from a cliff....probably not the best idea. Better to keep it away from water and close to a fire. Well.....on fire that is.

In addition to that you may have started your own channel (which I was so excited to check out and really wanted to like) but having bots read dumb stories with titles 2 miles long is not the same as actually narrating quality stories. Tbh I believe the victim and creepsmcpasta has been lying multiple times in his response video I just hope your doing okay and that we can still reply on you. I enjoyed the story and I really appreciated the gothic elements. However, when paying homage to Lovecraft it's important to avoid falling victim to his xenophobia. Drawing sinister connotations from Matilda's mix-raced heritage is totally in theme with Lovecraft's works, but unbecoming of a modern writer. Aside from that, it was a perfectly lovely tale.
yeah tbh, it would've been fine if it had been more self-aware (like if it was made more obvious it was just the protagonist's period-appropriate prejudices), but as the story is written, it comes off as though played completely straight (not saying this was the author's intention, just how I interpreted it). Also, definitely picked up some slight unfortunate implications connecting queerness with unnatural and evil forces with the whole "two mothers" thing and the two women laying naked together with their legs suggestively interlocked during their dark ritual.
Like, I really feel like the last thing the world needs right now is the totally sincere resurrection of these kind of retrograde tropes in horror without any hint of subversion, but tbh I'll admit I'm biased because I've been personally kind of burned out on Lovecraftian horror that just straight up tries to be Lovecraft (even when it makes a point to leave out the racism, xenophobia, misogyny, etc.) for a while now. Like to me as someone who has been reading stuff like this for probably about a decade and a half now, it comes off as tired and cliched more often than not; but again, that's just me speaking personally as someone who tends to prefer experimentation and new takes on stuff over appeals to tradition as a writer.
Hey Brandon, I like your comment and it makes sense. I do have a question though, how do we know that Matilda is not the same race as the MC? I understood she didn’t celebrate Christmas so she wasn’t a Christian but I don’t remember where in the story it stated what her race was. I may have just missed it, please tell me where to look, thanks!!! 😁
@@robynsmith4164 The author specifically mentioned that she was multiracial in his initial description, around about the time he called her wild and beautiful... describing POC as wild kind of problematic too. I understand that the tacit xenophobia could be written into the MC, but it's still a problematic trope.
@@robynsmith4164 there is some wording early on about her being of "mixed heritage" (I forget exactly how it is put), and she is described several times as having darker skin than the protagonist (who being a wealthy Englishman from that time period, would almost certainly be white).
Is this another clickbait thumbnail using eldritch imagery when the story ends up neither about some mermaid or other humanoid creature?
Ocean stories are the most clickbait-laden ones. I’m kinda loathe to even give them a chance anymore. They all use imagery of gargantuan monsters and that is a rarity .
