  • This holster may look familiar to anyone that has watched my previous holster making videos. Last year I made a very similar holster for a 1911 pistol. The same guy asked me to make another one like it for .357 revolver. As usual with a holster I start by drawing a pattern. So I take some time to explain how you can draw your own pattern for this type of holster.

I have a good friend who has a Ruger security 6 ,357 magnum. I would like to get him a left handed cross draw holster.

I was planning on making a Colt SAA holster today from a leather kit I bought, surprising to see this pop up in my feed. These videos have been helpful though, just made a leather stock wrap last week from one of your vids, thanks for making these

BEAUTIFUL! How about a holster like this for a gp100?

On this holster, I noticed you didn’t sew both belt slots. Any reason or does it matter?

I do usually sew around them, I am not sure it is necessary. It probably doesn't matter too much. I don't remember my reasoning, probably just what felt right at the time. There's already four layers of leather there making it very hard to bend and more stitches would make it stiffer.

So by making a trace outline your able to do any size Gun and mount it to the back plate ? I’m a 64 year old newbie and have always been interested in leather crafts . I have 4 different caliber revolvers @ 4 different size frames a 3” Colt 32cal. , a 7” RR single six 357 , a 5” H&R 38 colt and a 2” RG10 22 Short and thinking making the back plate all 1 size and different holsters for each gun , would that work ? Of course with hammer tie downs ! Your opinion would be nice !

Basically that is the idea, You do need to account for the thickness of some pistols. The backplates might be similar but I usually alter them to fit that particular pistol. A couple of details I feel are important in a design are a backplate that goes high enough to keep the hammer from jabbing into the wearer's side, and a front that covers the trigger on any double action pistols. The last is important for safety, and because I don't want someone claiming they shot themselves in the foot because the gun hung up in my holster. When it is actually because they were drawing it with their finger on the bang button.

@@bransonsgeneralstore my bang button is covered and my 32 colt ( double action ) I put a hammer strap on it , no intention on quick draw just comfort and am not sure of angle of the holster but feels good ! Thanks for input ! I think I should have used 4mm on the holster , the 8mm that I used is very stiff but manageable !
