Sam, you have to be the most articulate and understandable person I've ever encountered. Thank you for taking the time to explain this to all of us.
You sir, are a saint. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to pass along some of your earned experience.
Still the most common sense and clear video on how to layout your design for your holster. It just makes sense the way you do it and it’s not unnecessarily complicated like most of the others. Thanks again, I needed this review.
I hope Sam knows how much we all appreciate him. Teaching others and spreading knowledge is a saintly task and the man makes the world a little better with every lesson. *Thank you Mr Andrews*
I absolutely love the videos with Sam especially when he’s making a Holster. Thank you Sam and Thank You Hank.
you are very welcome we really appreciate the support we get from folks when we post these
Good teacher, thanks buddy
I started making custom designed motorcycle seats 10 or more years ago. Whenever someone saw my work they would always ask if I made holsters too. I never wanted to try because I knew it would take years to perfect it so I stayed away from the idea. I ran across one of your videos last night around 9pm and I couldn't stop watching. Your work is phenomenal. Your technique is impeccable and your knowledge is priceless. You've given me the confidence to make my first holster. Thank you so much for taking the time, valuable time, to share your experiences. Because of you I will be starting a new chapter in my book of life. God Bless you!
I had a similar situation. I started learning to make motorcycle seats, and while learning I thought I'd make a holster for myself. I liked the holster making so much more than the motorcycle seats I dropped them completely and now just do holsters. I love it! Sam's work is the best, I try to learn all that I can from him.
I always enjoy the Sam Andrews holster videos. It's a pleasure to watch him work.
thanks Chris we enjoy getting these videos out
Great Video Sam! Thanks for the instruction!
Great tutorial. Tell Mr. Andrews thank you for me please
Glad to see a new Sam Andrews video. Please do some more.
Thanks for your time Sam. Always nice to see a master tradesman at work. 👍👍👍
much appreciated Joshua I will definitely pass the message on to Sam
The manila folder....why was I trying to get fancy with a pattern. Thank you for posting this, you just saved me a bunch of time and frustration.
YW Eric yeah I was thinking editing this how simple and obvious that is, yet we just don't think of it
Your amazing I'm just starting and your the best at this thank you so much
Thank you very much Sam and Hank!!
Joe P
Thanks.... "Lifestyle of the locked-&-loaded" ... voice! Love this content!
YW Yep Sam is the "voice" thank you
There are a couple of tips here that would be invaluable for someone than wants to make their own. Thanks !!
Terrance you are very welcome on behalf of myself and Sam
Awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! Most of the time people make things out to be more difficult then it needs to be. Love learning from old timers that are masters of an craft they figure out the simplest and most efficient ways to doing stuff!
the only videos to watch if you wanna make a fantastic holster thank you Sam your top notch
Excellent tips thank you Sam
Thank you for passing along this knowledge. We have to pass all aspects of the gun culture down to younger generations to preserve it.
Great video. I show people your holsters all the time when I'm talking about quality goods to them.
mind blown
Fantastic! I'm from Brazil and I have you as my teacher, your holsters are incredible. It's been 6 years since I started making leather accessories and your videos are truly free classes, something very difficult to achieve here in Brazil, so I thank you wholeheartedly for spreading your works on video. Too bad I don't speak English, I use Google translator! Congratulations! God keep you always! Thank you!
Finally a straight forward lesson on making a simple holster. I am just starting out in leather crafting and at 74 , I need a good teacher and simple explanations. Thank you sir.
I've been making holsters as a hobbyist for awhile. Pattern making is the hardest part for me. Thank you so much for sharing these tips and tricks. Can't wait to try them out!
Thank you for this video. As a new leather worker, I was struggling to figure out how to make pancake holsters for my pocket knives... Now, I have to get to work 🤠
I've been waiting for this one to go up. I judge all other leather holsters to Andrews leather holsters. No one does it better.
Same.
@@unklemike5012 I'm going to try and replicate, see how it comes out.
awesome brother, Sam always tells me how amazed he is by the outpouring of support from folks when we post these videos
sweet let me see the results @@vdubbub1986
Your voice rocks!
Best tutorial on holster pattern making that I've found! Thanks!
This man has thought EVERYTHING out!
Okay this guy needs to be a voice actor
Mr. Andrews got me interested in leather work. I kinda figured out a way to make a pattern but this one shown here is way easier. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
Just Beautiful, Thank You.
that was fantastic, that guy is a master craftsman.
thank you for checking out the video
Nice to see you and another fantastic video!
So I guess we know who does the badass intro voiceover we've come to expect upon clicking on a Hank Strange vid!
These guys are true craftsman. RLTW!
agreed Sam is a master thanks for checking out the video
Thank you for this valuable lesson. Wish I had learned this a while ago. Leatherwork is tough to learn because lessons like this are never given.
One hell of a craftsman Sam. I learned leather and wood working from my grandfather. He should me about the same thing. Thanks for all you do.
I may actually attempt to make a holster after seeing this.
This was perfect. Exactly what I needed for my first project, thank you greatly.
THANK YOU SAM, I thought I could most likely do it by self, but this makes it SO EASY.
Can't get enough of this pro!
awesome thank you
Sam made me the most outstanding holster for my Glock 20 - the craftsmanship is BRAVO ZULU...THANKS AGAIN SAM :)
Your pattern making instructions are clear, rational, and extensive. I'm about to make my first holster for a Glock 30S. Also nice to know how to make a scabbard holster for the older hardware. Thank you!
Thank you for this! I sew and can draft my own patterns, but I am not used to working with leather and my husband wants some new holsters. This was very helpful!
So simple. Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing this, Sir.
Have a couple of Sam’s holsters. Absolutely the best!!
Thanks for the information, this video is a year old but still being discovered. Used it to make a holster for a recent javelina hunt, had the gun and leather for years but afraid I would ruin the leather cutting it out wrong, your video gave me the confidence to proceed, thanks.
THANK YOU!!!! this will help so much
Thank you I am going to follow all your tips !!
Thank you very helpful!
Thank you very helpful
Weather must be hell!
Dude he has an awesome Radio Voice lol
yeah lol so true
Thanks Sam, interesting to see :)
YW Ken
Wow! Great video and easy to understand instruction! Best wishes to ya!
Best voice on youtube
Thanks, that was very interesting!
you are welcome
I didnt know optimus prime so good at leatherwork
Thank you!
you are welcome my friend :)
i've been looking for a video like this! :-D
sweet glad you found us
I appreciate the time you and Sam take to share the skills Sam has developed as a leather working master craftsman. The training is very helpful for those of us that don't have the opportunity to otherwise sit down and work beside someone like Sam. Any chance you could add to the schedule a version 2.0 of the training for pattern making? The things Sam is demonstrating are not all captured in this video. What is needed here is a fixed view straight down on the project along with the audio directions. The cutting back and forth with the shots done in this video detracts from the content Sam put out. Thank you
Awesome
Have a question on two things I'd like answered...the first is, What and where do you get the metal reinforcement you use for your holsters that have them? (e.i your IWB holsters) And what weight leather do you like using for your holsters? Thanks for all the great how to videos from both you and hank! Keep up the great work.
YW Miguel I know this is Sam's busiest season right now however he will get to the questions
Dear Mr Samson
The metal is strips of galvanized 16 GA. steel that I have had cut for me by various
sheet metal shops over the years. I have them punch it out on the metal shearing
press to about 5/8" wide. These are then cut down by me to any length I need and
round the ends on a grinder. The leather for my McDaniels and saddle style holsters
is 7/8 oz. I use 10/11 for my heavy scabbard and western holsters. I hope this is
helpful.
Yours Truly
Sam Andrews
Miguel Samson Jr I saw your comment about Andrew’s holsters. I wanted to let you know that Tandy carries at least the thumb break tensioner on the web site now.
Thank you Sam. I am learning from your videos on how to make belt cases for my Leatherman Wave and bit set as well as my Leatherman Raptor tools for EDC. I have done paper patterns. I now know how to make a better pattern. The question I have is how do you keep them from getting damaged when you are tracing them to the leather. Please let me know. Thank you.
Nice video. Saw something you did with someone else regarding your shoulder holsters. I'm just getting into leatherworking... It would be nice to see you do a guide on making those patterns. Shoulder holsters, that is.
I used brown paper bags to start with then after I had it the right fit more permanent pattern made of heavy poster board works well if I was doing as much as Andrews shop does a thin Masonite might work nice file paper pattern for making new pattern when needed Sam Andrews you are a true artist but I like working with leather in the old way including hand stitching with an awl
I just hope I can find the right leather
This is EXACTLY the type of instruction I was looking for! Precise and not preachy. Very well done!
Anyone know where I would get the dummy guns? Sorry, I didn't know what else to call them.
Do your competition holster next.
Any chance of one for an iwb style ? I've watched all the holster vids so many times. Love to see what goes into making them. Great video
Great info I’m watching again and sure wish a little more time could have been taken on pattern making. I’m sure you are up to your eyebrows in orders.
He's got a super deep voice
Have you ever done Mare's Leg holster.
Inspired. This was so cool to see, Sam. I have been wanting to try leather work since I first saw you making, was it the Monarch? With Hank. I have been slowly collecting a few tools here and there. Now, with this knowledge, I feel I just need to get some leather to get started practicing! Thank you so much. Do you have tips on how to treat the raw leather? I think you touched on it briefly in the Monarch video.
as always thanks for supporting what we do Mike...Sam will definitely go through these comments and hopefully we'll get you that answer
Great video! I confess I had to watch it several times before I "got it". Could you comment on the holsters made by Bob Mernickle? He has a method where he tucks the right side of the hoster front underneath itself to create the pocket. I'm trying to figure out the correct dimentions. Thanks!
Hey guys got all my tools about to tackle a holster was wondering for a first holster which would be easier and scabbard or pancake style
Can I use Chrome tan leather on the inside of the holster against the gun. Some people say that it will mess with the metal on a gun or knife if you're making a knife sheath so can I use Chrome tan leather on the inside ?
Can you make a western style for a 92fs with a cartridge belt included ,
Question for Mr. Andrews, what do you use for the retention parts in your retention holsters? Thank you Pat
I know might be kind of a long shot but can you show how you work with exotic leather. Holsters and wallets
I think we could definitely put that on the to do list of videos
Hank do you make a pattern for single magazine pouch?
Once I get a 1911 I’ll have to get an Andrews Leather holster for it.
that would go well together
Hank think for getting me a chance to make better guns holsters,I wanna started doing lace belts, can you show video on them
If possible let me know where found a molding gun for diferents models thank you
I realize (#) MeToo means Pound me too. # = Pound.
Hank, quick question, after i cut out my 2 pieces i want to carve and dye the outside piece of leather. Obviously have to carve first but do i dye leather before i wet form it or after? I'm afraid the dye will bleed out... any suggestion? Thanks Redbeard
Might I ask: what is your source for aluminum mold guns?
Thank you Sam!
This would be a very interesting project to take on! But unlike you, which you've been doing it for so long, it would probably take me a week or two or three to finish because I'm meticulous and at the same time don't really know what I'm doing so it would be slow steam ahead! Lol
I do have a question. Do you ever use horse hide in any of your holsters or other projects?
You're welcome Jeff I'll get that answer from Sam for you
@@hankstrange Thank you!
What is the best weight to use for a holster. I have used 8-9 oz. It is a little too stiff for my preference. Is 6-7 oz better or should I go lighter. I don't want it too soft and flexible but I don't want it to feel like plastic when I get done.
Hank !! I need a chest rig! Im a truck driver and need some additional comfort when going east to west. 45 degree access since im sitting and driving,, help me out!! 357 snub 2.5 inch barrel ?
The cameraman needs to get in CLOSER.
How to make a shoulder holster
How do you wet form the shapes of the holsters? Do you use a preformed mold or can you you a mock up/weapon covered in plastic?
I used my sig p938 in saran wrap. It doesnt add bulk to it or any non gun lines.
Will you sell a pattern. I just can't figure the pattern out lol
