Hell Ride (by Cycling Tattooist): • CYCLING 63KM AS FAST A...
Channel Subscription: bit.ly/2NViYKI
This is Melbourne's best / fastest group / bunch Ride, the Hell Ride. It runs every Saturday morning from 7am at the Black Rock tower, and in this video, I'm in Melbourne for the Christmas Eve edition. The perfect Hell Ride to be at, after a few years away from the ride.

Ryan Schilt the legend got the W
Blurring out the speed on the downhill 😂. Well played. Smart
For sure doing at least 80Kph. I know I hit up to 70 on that bit and I suck.
Just some fog on the lense mate
He was Def going around 140 I think
Is it illegal to break a speed limit on a bike in Australia?
@@nathanmcginty5755 the speed limit is the speed limit. Doesn’t matter what you’re on
Thanks for the shoutout mate… you absolute legend!
I completely agree… the hell ride is definitely some of the most fun you’ll ever have in a bike. Not to mention an incredible workout…
Great video mate. Look forward to that ride together someday!
🤘🤘🤘
Have a look at the boxing day Papas ride here in Perth, Western Australia. Trumps the hell ride
The descend along the beach was beautifully synced to the sound track!
Papas Boxing Day world champs in Perth is Australia’s fastest and best group ride !! Hands down 🍻
wow mate you captured that ride beautifully. hollywood is a true ambassador for cycling at all levels. not sure how you cope being in qld, the cycling culture in Melbourne is just so energized. I've got onto the back of the hell ride a few times from frankston, very competent riders.
I got dropped just watching this video
haha
I'd never seen that ride until the Cycling Tattooist posted some of his chain gain videos from the UK and then the Melbourne one, absolutely amazing !
In Belgium we have different group rides going everyday along the local canal or river. A famous one that comes to mind is the Scheldepeloton, where local pros (Lotto, Quickstep etc) participate. Good training possibilities, and daily too. Then again we go nuts for cycling here. If you ever make it to Belgium it's a cool thing to do.
Wow loved it mate a true balls out ride keep them coming Cam happy new years to you and yours keep safe you old rogue.
Crazy ride Cam.
Clearly you enjoyed yourself and the group certainly turned it on 😜
Great footage 🤙👍👏
Outstanding Cam! I really enjoyed the music! That's cycling music! That's one area that's not often talked about is cycling specific music and how motivating it can be
Cheers Adam.
Brilliant! I once hung onto the back of the Hell Ride back in about 1998 and by the time we rolled down Olivers Hill I was the last one on the back with only about 20 people left standing. It was the hardest thing I've ever done and I never went back!
The Oliver’s Hill climb you can swallow, but it’s those undulating hills going in to Mt Eliza that really split the pack. Great edit cam, really captured the ride so well.
What a fun ride ! And not to mention the view, breathtaking
Cam? You murdered the edit. Congratulations!
Great content mate! Always blown away by how fast these guys rip past!!!! Hollywood is a pisser!
The short you made of this video was bloody amazing...
Fantastic video, I bet it was a blast! I used to live on the Peninsula, so Oliver’s hill is very familiar to me. Alas, this was before I got into cycling. Guess I’ll need to add Hell ride to the bucket list!
I can say this looks intense and beautiful at the same time.
A good way to put it.
Nice ride Cam, had friends that rode the Papas Boxing Day group ride 75km in Perth (I believe) last week (12/26) and it was a doozy too.
That intro is gold! You even don’t have anything down there 🤣😆😂
One of the best rides in the world. Huge bunch and pretty safe at the front 1/2. Comparable to the Milan San Reno sportive. The undulating road after Oliver’s to the lights hits hard. Blurred speed down Oliver’s hits close to 90kph for the maniacs 😂
That certainly does look one hell of a ride. The speed is incredible. Prob because it's a big group and only 50 odd kilometers, if I understood it correctly. All the best going into 2023.
Saw this ride going up Oliver's hill while I was descending on my ride. Absolute machines 💪
Brilliant commentary video Cam 👏🏻👏🏻 but yer roads must be quite for this size of group to race 🤔 my local club in 🇮🇪 we have a Xmas Turkey hamper club race!! It's brilliant and exhausting 🥵
Happy new year Cam!!!!!
Likewise
Cool video and the comments are always worth a read.
Fantastic! Must make an effort to take my bike to Melbourne for one of these rides 👌
love the face you blurred out the speed descending Oliver's Hill. Genius move
was a technical issue...not intentional blurring ;-)
I absolutely HATE going up Olivers but LOVE blasting back down again on the way back.
I would invite you to come to Tulsa Oklahoma in the US. Home of Tulsa Tough during the summer we have rides like this every Wednesday Wednesday night worlds. Love the video!
You didn’t have to blur out that you were doing 75 clicks down Ollie’s Hill mate! I spotted you guys that morning, you were flyiiing! 🔥
The Shootout ride in Tuscon Arizona is pretty big, usually see 60-70+ with some tour guys showing up to blow up the field👍
This was awesome 👏🏾✊🏾👊🏾
Come to Perth for Old Papas Boxing Day World Champs, it's another level.
I need to win the lotto to fly to Perth at Christmas time. hahah. It's like traveling to Europe.
@@CamNicholls Fair call. I'm sure someone over here will give you a couch for a few days haha
@@CamNicholls Mikey and I will pay for your airfare if you can take out the W on Port Beach Road.
At least they didn't wear white bibs 😏. Happy New Year & good health to you Cam+family
haha, yellow is getting pretty close
I like the blurred out spedo going down Oliver's Hill ☺
Boxing Day Papas in Perth would probably compare!
The Los alcázares (murica) group ride in summer has a group about 100 riders, especially when valverde and luis leon snanchez are out.
I love ridding here in Melbourne beachroad to Frankston, i wish i can go back soon
That looked like a fun time!
Absolute highlight of the trip to Melbourne. Close second behind family time.
@@CamNicholls Merry Christmas!
@@HarryTzianakisTheGodOfSpeed cheers mate, likewise
I will have to get a few ks in the legs come back and see if I can get through one again.
Many Saturdays for years spent doing that ride in the summer. Memory of accending to Canadian bay road with three vis champs drilling us in a long line it was a brilliant memory
Ripping content yet again🤘 Los Angeles has Nichols ride (aptly named😁) every Sunday 80-100+; nearby in LA’s West Valley “The Worlds” take place every Wednesday morning with Phil Gaimon and other pro’s/nationals turning up; London’s Regent Park and Richmond Park see dozens (and in the summer probably 100+) in small pacelines/chaingang every early morning
Love it. Would get dropped in the first few ks with that power. Weapon 🤙
More ! More ! More ! 🤘🏼
What a chainy! Savage.
Very great ride
ah the memories of riding the hell ride. I'm one of those who turn around after Oliver's Hill 😅😅 And I remember one year a police patrol car tried to stop the group looking for the organiser and everyone rode around him 🤣 Then he drove up to the top of Oliver's Hill and tried again and everyone rode past around him again haha. The next week the ride had a police escort 🤣 That's many years ago.
Convinced myself not to get a new bike. The legs need a solid upgrade.
Fast. But not Boxing Day Papas fast.
Damn this makes me miss Melbourne, shitty weather and all...
Someone exceed the speed limit.. Well done👍
I actually saw you in Brighton, not sure if that day of the day before. Didn't want to interrupt your breakfast, but I thought you might've come down for something like this 🤣
Next time say hello
Hi Cam, Great video and analysis. What is your strava handle?
LOL - masking the speed on the descent 🤣
There’s some sensitive people out there Chrissi. People that know the speed limit! Haha
beautiful
Boxing day papas in Perth. Come check it out next year!
How do they keep up the speed for that long? Especially going up hopes rise. That part kills me.
This is freaking dope...F the haters..
0:20 is that "Tilly on a bike"? How did she make out?
Beautiful ❤ Fast
50-60 km/h oh my god, your`re the monster)))😳😳😳
Blurring the speedo on a bicycle, looool. Absolute scenes😂
Muy decent 👌🏼
Boxing Day Papas in Perth would have this ride covered - had Ben O, Turbo, Jai, and Sam Welsford this year
Mate, this is nothing compared to the Papas Boxing Day ride in Perth. It must be seen and experienced to be believed.
Yes I've heard. I think the big difference is that's a once a year event. The Hell Ride is weekly. But I would love to come and check it out, if I win the lotto! haha flights are expensive to Perth at Christmas.
Was there. Was a good one
I would get dropped before i clipped in...
haha, I'm sure with some consistency and good training you'd be good!
@@CamNichollsou must be taking about 15-20 hrs per week on the bike, I could only guess! Off the bike, another 5-10?
New Year’s Day ride in LA along PCH is a faster ride and more people. Riders from legion of la come out, the Williams brothers and Miami blazers as well. Take up two lanes down the coast
Think there are some fast bunch rides in Austin with regularly 100-150 riders. Occasionally over 200. They get police escorts.
Hey cam what was the song last few minutes before your GoPro schnitzeled? Thanks
Neon Affair, Splize
Awesome! What bike were you riding?
Winspace T1500 with ICan 50mm wheels.
hi cam,
Are you posting a vid on the group ride up in noosa with caleb ewan?
Yes, I will. Just way behind after Christmas holidays, and as this was the 'Christmas' Eve addition, I prioritised it. I'll get to the Caleb one very shortly! Stay tuned
@@CamNicholls thanks mate. I was the u16 there but just got dropped when there was about 6/7 others left after trying to catch caleb😂
Ok what’s the track played during the descend Cam? 😅
The boxing day ride in Perth was bigger and faster mate 👍
Yep, Papas Boxing Day group ride averaged 47km/hr +. Mind you there was current Giro winner and 2021 TDF 4th place getter in the mix
Yes, I know of it. Does it have traffic lights though and weave through a built up shopping strip, That knocks a few km p/h off at least.
@CamNicholls traffic lights yes, not a shopping strip but they do go through the CBD for a small section, they tend to kill the averages a bit

What camera / system do you use to show the DATA ?
Great video and awesome live footage, Cam. Gotta' say though that I reckon Perth's Boxing Day Papa's trumps the Hell Ride.
Here's some awesome footage from one of our Perth cycling enthusiasts who owns a 360 camera.

Come to belgium. This pace is like cofee ride.
Come to Australia - our coffee is actually drinkable.
@@christopherbeattie263 We drink Belgian beer.
What software do you use for the G Metrics??
bike junkie😎
Oof! Massive effort! To the point cam had to censor the speed they were going down the decent. Better than lying and making himself look slow
I'd say Boxing day Papas world champs in Fremantle Western Australia has it beat. The start line would have 200+ people. This year we got the likes of Jai Hindley, Ben O'Connor, Sam Welsford, Harry Sweeny, Brady Gilmorre and Luke Durbridge to name a few. You're welcome to come over and try hold the wheel ;)
Blurred speed on the descent 😂
That's a very long sprint to Blackrock from that position.
Just between us - how fast were you ripping down Oliver’s Hill Road?
59 km p/h
Road racers you need a league table to establish the overhaul winner that is stages.
The Coffee Grind is pretty big and pretty fast…..

What did you use to get the dials/stats up on the video?
Garmin VIRB editing software.
how come the speed had to be blurred out? im new to riding in australia , do bikes have speed limits?
Yes, bikes must abide by speed limit rules. Welcome to cycling too! You're going to love it.
@@CamNicholls thanks mate!
If I know one faster? Mate get yourself over to Perth for Boxing Day Papas World Champs. 70km at 46km/h. Arguably the pros are training all summer long for this, the road bays form indicator.. 🔥
What’s the deal with bottle of hand sanitiser hanging from the back of that guy’s saddle?
I watched the tattoo guy's video when he did the hell ride, and as I recall he had a hard time with some of the other riders. Seems some of them are not too understanding, which I find to be typical of the more elite riders.
That's sad to hear. Although I can appreciate some people get sensitive when you pull a camera out in a bunch. Benefit of the GoPro is that it's discrete/creepy haha
I fixed the BMC, Cam…. Battery was kaput… as were my legs!
Whats the name of the song while descending Oliver hill?
Neon Affair, Notize
@@CamNicholls thank you! fantastic choice of a song for that part of the video
Whats the name of the tune at the end?
Splize - Neon Addiction
Fkn amazing, makes me in love with 80’s synth pop again 😂
Boxing Day papas ( Perth) Hindley - durbridge - Oconnor - welsford - storer - Freiburg +++
The fastest ride in Australia ! ( fact )
The MACC Not a Recovery Ride. Its held the day after the MACC One Love Ride It will get up to 35+ at points.
Being cheeky and blurring out the speed on the descent eh?
Don't want anyone getting up tight. haha
I wonder how many photos were taken of the group on the way back through the 40km speed camera in frankston.
