George Michael always had soul, they were perfect match.
Amazing together… two legends
His tribute for Freddy Mercury - Somebody to Love - is my favorite George Michael!!
Aretha was such a fan of George’s that she wanted him to write and produce an album for her. When George met Aretha he was barely 21 and was so overwhelmed because Aretha was one of his idols. This duet gave Aretha her first number one in the UK of her career. And she rose to the top after being off the charts for many many years. This was a dream team. I love this!
She did not ask George to write this. Here she is talking about how it came to be on rare MTV interview, she was complementary of George and predicted would be a hit. She had a lot of hits in the 80s, starting with her being in Blues Brother movie, #1 R&B (Get it right) written by the great Luther Vandross and then a sting of hits (Freeway of Love, Who’s Zoomin Who, Jumpin Jack Flash, Jimmy Lee) after this too. Great duet. czcams.com/video/TPksBRJZQR4/video.html
@@mic1240 That’s right he did not write this.
George did write this 😂@@rosemiller2990
@L G George did NOT seek Aretha for this song! NO! Clive Davis APPROACHED George to collaborate with Aretha. Yes! They went looking for George. They asked George to write AND produce a song for this duet, but George was too nervous to b/c he admired Aretha so much. Understand that George was VERY respected in the R&B community and his talent was recognized all over at a very early time.
He is my favorite male singer of all time! His voice is like a lullaby💕
George has said in an interview, that he was dissappointed because Aretha did not because she liked him, it was just a job to do. He was a big fan of her.
That's not what Narada Michael Walden said? They Cliff Davis had this song for George and Aretha. With him being the producers.
Written by Simon climie from climie fisher(love changes everything),and Dennis Morgan
Here is Aretha speaking about George coming to Detroit for the recording, this on mtv just before song out czcams.com/video/TPksBRJZQR4/video.html
This was a MAJOR hit when this dropped. Two power houses that really pushed each other
Two of the greatest ever voices on 4 minutes of perfection
Aretha Franklin is the greatest singer to have ever walked this earth. George was also one of the greats. legends the both of them, and they both have deep catalogues so you can react to both for a long time and you'll never be disappointed.
You have never lied my friend 💯🐐🙌🏾
This song is a masterpiece - one of the greatest duets ever recorded.
One of two, the other being George with Elton in 1991
Jay, that’s the Queen of Soul you’re listening to! She deserves the crown! 👑
So does Michael...
@@michaelasay8587 Ah, you had the chance. If you edit it to "And don't forget about Aretha!", I'll remove my comment gladly. ;)
@@michaelasay8587 George is a great singer, but there are levels to this.
@@michaelasay8587 George is great but this is Aretha Franklin we are talking about. The gospel powerhouse who was the voice of civil rights movement. There is no comparison
George Michael… Legend❤️
George was a Total Class Act! He Never upstaged or "outsang" Any Artist he collaborated with! This duet is a perfect example of that. These classic artists are genuinely missed.❤❤
I am old and loved this song from the first time it was aired on the radio some decades ago. In my opinion this is the best male female duet in ever, It is a master class in vocal soul with a wonderful dance vibe.
One of the best duet's ever recorded, IMO.
Whoever thought of putting these two together was a genius.
Clive Davis!
@@shayla-lee And Aretha, she truly was waiting for George to go solo. She was a fan.
Two great singers .gone but not forgotten .
This is perfection as far as singers! Both legends! Miss them both 🌹🌷🌹
At anytime the Queen of soul can belt it out...she's the queen for a reason.
Sisters are doing it for themselves...,Aretha & the Eurithmics ! 😁✌️✌️👍🇬🇧🙏
Man they are both gone on. R.I.P. Love this song 🎵 ❤
These two take you to church. I absolutely loved this duet when it came out. Canadian Grandma Lori C.
Aretha is, was, and always will be the Queen of Soul. George Michael was one of the very few who could match up with her.
2 of my favourite singers recording a song together, life doesn't get much better than that.😃
In 1989, George Michael was the first white artist to win Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist at the American Music Awards and he was also the first white male vocalist to ever record a song with Aretha Franklin.
Aretha also did a duet with Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics. It’s called “Sisters are doing it for themselves” and it’s FABULOUS.
George sang with Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige, Chaka Khan & Whitney Houston & he nailed it every time. Not many male singers could hold their own with that calibre of female vocalist.
KING GEORGE MICHAEL 👑
IS BACK. 👏👏👏
We just all BOW to the Queen and the Gift that is George Michael
Who else just starts smiling because we knew what was coming & we were so thrilled to see how happy he was 😁😁😁
Aretha was always the queen, no one could touch her as far as singing. And George Michaels was so freaking talented and had a golden voice that wouldn't quit.
I had completely forgotten about this song. However, as soon as the chorus started, I began“singing” like it was my job to be a background singer 😂
Me too bro. 🤣🤣
😂
Same!
I think it’s way more fun to be the background singer-always. They have the most fun belting it out. Why ISN’T it our job?
Facts! AND I had the nerve you do the classic background singer classic moves too, to boot 😂
Queen of soul... Soulful George
Love George… he is the Whole package❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Never see this again or anything like it. George Michael is the real deal and the Queen of Soul...nuff said. Thank you my brother. ..I spend hours watching your reactions to the soundtracks of my youth. Makes me smile to see you enjoy these so much. We truly enjoyed these songs just the same, sincerely.
Oh man, I freaking loved this song when it came out. I still do. Goosebumps.
George always had the soul to hold his own against R&B divas. Check out his duet with Whitney Houston, "If I Told You That"; and his duet with Mary J. Blige covering Stevie Wonder's "As."
I still can't believe George Michael is gone. What an amazing talent!
These two are spectacular together ❤what a vocalmatch 😊 George sings The Long And Winding Road.He is Outstanding!!
Yessssss!!!!! One of my favorite duets of all time!!! 🙌🙌🙌
This song was everywhere when it came out. It went to number 1 in the UK charts
Number one in USA and Canada. It won a Grammy in 1987 for Best R&B Duo/Group
This won the Grammy in 1987 or 88 for best duet it took Aretha’s career back to the top especially in the UK. When George did his Faith tour in Detroit, she was there n they performed this live
George michael did a live duet with Lisa Stansfield the song was "these were the days of our lives" buy Queen simply beautiful check it out jayvee.
George is in my top 5 male singers. Such a gorgeous voice. Still love this song all these years later. ❤
Two of the greatest voice ever to grace the earth....put together, its mind blowing how good it is
This was such a good collab! Aretha's voice is so soulful! She can belt and do riffs that are superb.❤️!! George is one of my favorite vocalist and his voice is incredible!! ❤️ His voice melds so well with other's Artists. This song is just pure talent all the way!! 🙌
Aretha is the Queen of Soul!
WOW !! Indeed……..She is awesome…….RIP ❤
If you haven’t already, you should listen to George Michaels “praying for time”. Gives me chills every time
How gorgeous do they sound together?! Great choice sweetheart 🤗
George had some great duets - this one is the best. Others are “As” with Mary J. Blige and “If I told you that” with Whitney.
Yes! Yes! Jovaughn! You really have to listen to George’s duets with these two wonderful artists, too! 💜
As. Bloody brilliant!
Dont let the sun go down on me, with Elton John
This Is Not Real Love - with Mutya Buena to me is the best duet
I clicked on this video SO FAST my fingers almost snapped 😄. THANK YOU for continuing to do George Michael videos. He's my favorite male pop star of all time and of course Aretha is a LEGEND. Fun fact: this single went to #1 on the Billboard chart and was released right between George leaving Wham and starting his solo career. This was the transition to his blockbuster album Faith which would be released the following year and go on to dominate the next two years on the charts. So this song always felt like one established icon (Aretha) anointing the next big pop star (George).
Never clicked so fast! This is my favourite song. No one compares to Aretha. Such a great duet, their voices together are pure bliss. You should watch her rendition of Natural Woman at the Kennedy Center in front of Obama. It's a powerhouse performance and she was in her 70s.
Yes, and with the songwriter Carole King there standing for her. It must be Amazing to hear your words being sang by the Legend & Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin!
I agree!
A fantastic song by 2 legends of music. Jay you should check out Sisters are Doing it For Themselves by Aretha and the Eurythmics, another rocking duet.😀📀🎶👍❤️
Exactly this right here ⬆️⬆️⬆️❤️❤️❤️
Yes that there! ❤
this is one of those songs that will change your whole day and send shivers up and down your spine every time you think about it
A legendary performance from two legends. Can't say much more!
Aretha Franklin was and will always be the Queen of Soul.
Such a positive song by two icons...
Love George and Aretha. R.I.P to both
To the late great George Michael and to the late great queen of soul Aretha Franklin the songs will live forever in our hearts even though there are no longer here they will never be forgotten. Every time I hear this song or even play this music I still get goosebumps all through my body for what I love about this video and said they show videos back then with George Michael from his music I'm ready for Franklin with her music and then you also see Marvin Gaye Tammi Terrell Ike and Tina Turner I believe it was sharing Sonny Bono that's who was up there on the videos it was someone else no disrespect I have to watch the video again to see who I missed no disrespect but mighty both rest in peace they will never be forgotten.
I am loving one of Aretha’s later songs “Who’s Zoomin Who” this week too. Love it!
LIsten to Jump to It produced by another fabulous singer with a VOICE, Luther Vandross.
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard that, definitely going to check it!
@@kimwallace907 Listen to Luther too. His first hit, A House is not a Home. His voice is perfect. He sounds exactly the same Live!
Yes that one I’m definitely familiar with that o e! Love Luther. I had Here and Now in my wedding when I married my ex husband.
@@LG-kx8xl Yes, my request too!!
The QUEEN of Soul for all time! The Blues Brothers movie brought Aretha back and revived her career- watch it! It’s filled with the greatest soul and blues/jazz singers!
People always underestimated George's vocal chops. There's very few who would even dare to attempt a collab like this and yet they pulled it off with such ease. Most people wouldn't even try to duet with the (still and eternal) queen of soul, George did it flawlessly and you can see in the video he's in total awe of her.
George was an amazing vocalist as well as song writer, he always deserved more credit.
He and Aretha are both so missed, this made me tear up that they're both gone.
That's so true, a few times I've had conversations with people about our favorite vocalists, I always mention George and I without fail get a look of half surprise and amusement, then as I state my case I always win them over but sadly he often gets totally overlooked.
The best duet of all time!!
George Michael was amazing, he held his own with Aretha, Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston. Check it out!
She can belt it… and that’s why she was the queen of soul!
Just such a reminder that we so MUCH amazing music years ago....
I love this song it stays on my play list. I must say nobody does it like Aretha..but George holds his own!
They absolutely complimented each other!
George Michael had such a soulful voice. He was one of those 80’s/90’s last pop icons
She is known as the Queen of soul for a reason. The world misses voices like hers and whitneys
Aretha’s voice was total perfection. Mix it with George Michael’s & we have Heaven. RIP to both of them
George and Aretha! Great combination!!
Love this ! Thx for reacting!🎶🎤💜
One of the best Duets ever
Really need to hear Aretha perform at the Kennedy Center Honors of Carol King, when she sings "You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman)"..I believe she was 72yrs...it's just amazing
This is one of my favorite duets of all time. Such chemistry and mutual respect for one another and command of the song they both loved, made this a number one hit worldwide. I remember when it came out on MTV. You need to check out the duet between George and Ray Charles, Blame It On The Sun. It’s featured on Ray Charles album Genius in Friends much more of a recent recording. George’s voice aged like fine wine. It’s just my favorite voice of all time. I hope you can react to Blame it On The Sun, with George and Ray.
Aretha and George........awesome!
I remember this song and video like it was yesterday!
I miss this time of great music and great artists.
Two of the best voices ever.
George one of the best singer, songwriter and producer!
He did a lot great other duets with Whitney, Steve W., Mary J. Blidge a.s.o.
Another must is the Queen tribute concert.
Georges "Somebody To Love" is one of his best live performances ever imo.
Geirge Michael is one of the greatests male pop singer of all time period
What a lot of people don't know George walked in and did this song in 1 take.. That's how good he was.. In one take.. What you hear is what he walked in and did.. Incredible choice and talent.. He will be missed forever
George had some great collaborations, this is my favourite! Yes! George did soul too. But Aretha is THE queen of soul. Great reaction!.
Aretha Franklin and George Michael get me chill they are one of the greatest singers
It always great in a duet when the singers bring their A game and show off what they can do. "If I Told You That" and "As" are good to check out. Also a nice one is Deon Estus "Heaven Help Me". He played the saxophone for George Michael, and George sang with him on this track. You should also watch the movie "Last Christmas" sometime during the holiday.
One of my favorite songs from the 80’s!
Still one of the best duets ever in my opinion. 2 world class legends coming together and nailing it. So good.
Oooh man! Aretha Franklin is a legend from the American music history!!!
Best duet ever period….
When two legends collide and bring their A game 😍
Aretha will always be our Queen of Soul, RIP. This must have been a big present for George Michael to have this opportunity, sure there is a good story about how they got together. Thanks Jay!
ARETHA FRANKLIN…..NATURAL WOMAN….THE WOMAN IS A TRUE LEGEND
I have this duo in my music library. Still jam 2 this. Aretha queen of soul, George master of blue eyed soul.
I'm still devastated by the death of George Michael. RIP George and Aretha.
Worth a listen, if you haven’t… is when Aretha sang in honour of Carole King at the Kennedy Honors. Obama cried… Carole lost it..: awesome performance as well. Check it out!
Yes!!! What an emotional performance!
When George was with Wham he said Aretha Franklin was his favourite soul singer she wanted him to write a song for her but he said he wouldn't be good enough then he went solo and done this duet and wow it's brilliant I love George I am a huge fan of his he was a genius RIP to them both 2 legends gone
Finally!! You finally got to this amazing song, two incredible singers that compliment one another. Sad that we don't have neither one now 😥 RIP Michael & Aretha...both of you have brought us so many great hits!! We will never stop listening to each of your own music talent, your both missed so much ❤️❤️❤️. Jay you're enjoying both of these musicians, I know for a fact, that you love these two. Thanks for taking the time to react for all of us, we love your music choices, you bring us the oldie but goodies, and today's modern sounds....Really, thanks a grip!!

⚜️ Diana Ankudinova is amazing!
Just fabulous, always adore George, but to listen to Aretha Franklin was incredible!!!
FINALLY.......This is such a great collab.....2 awesome talents ....this is what is called real.....MUSIK MAGIK!!!!!
You need to react to Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox in Sister Are Doing It For Themselves. You'll love their duet together. Two powerful women singing a powerful song.
2 legends right there ❤️❤️ My personal favourite choices are " kissing a fool " from George Michael, and " until you come back to me " from Aretha Franklin ❤️❤️ These are on my Most played Playlist ❤️❤️
Oooh I second kissing a fool from George Michael. That's a really good song.
Introduced to Aretha Franklin at the age of 10 via older girl's record collection. Until you come back to me - still my favourite of all time! Different Corner ❤️❤️
Kissing a fool is a too tune, im a massive gm fan, Different corner, Jesus to a child, Father figure, he made some fantastic music. Would be great if they released some unpublished work of his. Still cant believe will be 5yrs on Christmas day that we lost out beloved George. I was lucky enough to see him 2 times in concert and both were at Wembley Stadium. Wembley stadium was knocked down and rebuilt and George Michael was first artist to preform in New Wembley Stadiumthe June 2007, then saw him again on his 25 tour. Still to this day in my top 3 best concerts ever been too. 🎶🎵🎤🎷
"until you come back to me" - just makes my heart melt 💖💖
What an amazing pairing.Their voices sound so great, together.
"The duet I didn't know I needed"! Exactly! You wouldn't necessarily think of putting them together would you but there you go. And the fact that George held his own next to Aretha speaks volumes to the man's talent. If you haven't already you should check out Freedom by him or Somebody to Love which he sang with Queen as a tribute to Freddie Mercury.
Of course George held his own!! He is a legend ❤️
RIP To the queen of soul! Her catalog of music is immense. Her social activism is unmatched by a singular human. RIP George Michael a ground breaking singer who truly came into his zone once he went solo from the band Wham!
One of my favourites..they didn't meet to Make this song, she was in USA and he was in England and they each sang their parts and made the videos. Brilliant!
