    What type of bike lock do you plan to use on your ebike?

      I recently bought a Radcity Step Thru3. Have it for about a week. I got an Abus Cafe lock and the adapter chain that goes with it from the Rad Website and I’m still waiting for it to arrive. I also bought a Kryptonite Kryptolock U lock and I really have no idea just yet as to where I shoud I lock it through 😅.

    Talking about locks and showing them are two different things! Showing is the best!

    Locks are a good deterrent, but putting GPS is just as or more important. If you have GPS and your bike gets stolen you can still locate it. Both are needed for good security!

      Unless you plan to confront the bike thief yourself a gps tracker does not always help. My neighbor had an expensive road bike(approx $3000) stolen several months ago that had a gps tracker, but the police here refused to get a search warrant based on the tracker location. It did him no good and after a couple of days the thieves must have located the tracker as it stopped working.

    I have a Radwagon 4, and I mounted the U-lock on the frame next to the seat post. Easy access and out of the way. I wish I could post a photo.

    Just bought a $1200+ after tax ebike. Planning on either a litelock x1 or hiplock, leaning more towards litelock. Also going to bring it into the store whenever possible.

    This has been very helpful. I've got a $4500 Gazelle ebike arriving in a few days at my home in a moderate high-crime city (not central Wisconsin). So, at this point I'm leaning towards the Gazelle AXA included AXA Cafe lock, and then a double security system of a Kryptonite Evolution chain.... Or maybe the folding lock. I think I need at least a 7 level security or better for short 1/2 hour shopping stops

      I know this is late but insurance is cheaper than top of the line bike locks. Especially when you only get theft insurance.

    I plan on a quality tight U-lock for the frame, a cable between both tires, and at least one alarm

      Alarm? Which alarm did you decide on? Thanks

    • @_skud
      @_skud Před 2 lety +2

      @@kippywylie I went with the wsdcam that is on the Ebike Escape accessories page (link in the description of this video). It works similar to a car alarm. You lock it with a key fob and if it senses motion it first gives a warning and then starts blaring real loud.
      Got a chain instead of a U-lock because the chain can fit around more objects/bike racks.

    • @kippywylie
      @kippywylie Před 2 lety +1

      @@_skud Thank You. I think I will follow your plan. And those alarms are so cheap I just might arm an additional one in my bike storage area.

    • @_skud
      @_skud Před 2 lety +1

      @@kippywylie I went with the kryptonite new york 1210 12mm chain for $150. I bought it in person but it's the same price on Amazon. If you have a cheaper bike (mine was $2000) or are less paranoid, you can get away with a cheaper chain.

    Do you have any videos on how to lock cargo ebikes when the back wheel has that covering for passenger's feet? I have a Aventon Aboud and I don't see a good way to lock the back wheel and frame. I thought that 8/10 kryptonite chain would work but it doesn't fit.

    • @BrentDaughertyMe
      @BrentDaughertyMe Před 11 měsíci

      @@tomying7651 I just don't worry about it. I have panniers on the back and it's kind of hard to remove the back wheel so I'm hoping it'll be too much trouble for a thief. But I do have a thinner cable I can use as a secondary lock if I'm really concerned.

    I just bout a Yuba Spicy Curry cargo bike. What would you recommend?

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 3 lety

      I haven't seen that ebike in person but in my experience with cargo ebikes you want to get something long since the dual kickstands prevent you from getting close to a bike rack in some situations. I'd probably look into the chain locks for high security. A U lock might be more difficult. The next video shows some of the lock options.

    My cable is thick and it uses hardened steel, you better have a big chain to be stronger than this cable and a chain is hard on the paint. Are the motion sensors for e bikes any good?

    people using cable locks means they are too lazy to use something better they should be banned manufacturers should be forced to stop making them, selling and importing them
