Hello, Arek here. A new video for you. I had plans to redo some older videos of Ys series with different conditions for some time already. So I just decided to start with the hardest one. Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim. There were boss fights done on normal difficulty with optional bosses omitte on this channel. This time, I decided to do it on Nightmare difficulty setting with every boss in the game defeated. No additional challenges, just 'no damage'. Sword skills allowed, magic allowed. Most of the time I managed to keep myself from overlevelling too much but there were few cases where I had to grind and get more STR points (thankfully, Catastrophe mode makes this very easy). The bosses which I had to overlevel for are these:
1) Kishcarin 2. Base STR in this fight is what you would get on level 52. All available STR enhancing items are equipped as well. Theoretically, this is possible without overlevelling but I do not think there are many sane people who would even attempt it after looking at this miniboss. Too much is happening at the same time so it is a luck based fight.
2) Ernst. STR is close to level 60, some STR items equipped resulting in 314 STR points, maxed swords. Sorry, I am NOT doing this boss at lower stats or in time attack. Aside from being borderline unfun clusterf**k where you can't even observe entire field because of camera, there are also bad hitboxes. Sera's lightning attack has infinite horizontal range which means it -will- hit you even if you are very far away from it. There is a way to avoid it by doing a well timed jump but she also can aim it at different height. Thus, in all the chaos you can't reliably say if you need to jump or just stay on the ground (which is not always possible because of Ernst shooting you constantly). Also, some of Ernst's close ranged attacks can occasionally deal damage before animation even starts.
3) Majunun. Maxed swords, all STR enhancing equipment and unhealthy dose of power seeds resulting in level 66 stats. STR this high is possible only in Catastrophe mode where you can buy unlimited amount of power seeds. This is another boss that I will not try to do with lower stats. An absolute nightmare and the hardest boss in entire Ys series. No pattern, no pauses between attacks (except one) and most of them are not telegraphed at all. You can only react to any of this thing's moves and pray that you have enough time and space to evade whatever it throws at you. Oh, and also pray that red lasers are used as rarely as possible: these things are evil. They home on your position and occasionally they can clip through floor and walls catching you off guard. And they reflect from walls at sometimes unpredictable angles too. It might be possible to win this fight in normal mode with max level 60. You'll just need 'some' luck and ungodly amount of time. I am not willing to spend so much time on a single game no matter how much I like it, though. Sorry.
4) Napishtim. Stats are same as in Ernst fight buth without any accessories equipped (304 STR). Did not have earlier save and did not want to replay entire game again.
Overall, I am quite happy with the result. There will be other Ys videos from me later. They will not be ready for some time, though. Sorry about that. This boss run was quite a difficult one so I want to take a little rest and just play some turn-based JRPGs. Also, I have one boss run in plans that I want to make before the end of the year which is not Ys related and which I have to start very soon to have any chance of making it in time. Thanks for watching, I hope you like this video.
Please do more! also would love to see a complete run🎉

2D hero versus 3D world. Funny how something from the early 2000s literally squashes most action RPG games created today in terms of awesomeness.
One of my favorite games and series as well glad you remade a video of it.
One of my favorite Ys titles. Good to see you revisit it.
Oooo just as i'm doing my Nightmare playthrough. The Gaposdhala part nearing the end, i felt the fear and nicely done with Ernst and Manjun. Can't wait to see the remaster plays of the other games.
This is the first time you've done a "Ys" game in a long time.
The boss themes are absolute bangers.
Ys series gonna be fun to watch , ton of boss to kill
I had a feeling this might be the only Ark Engine Ys game you can No Damage as Ernst is the only boss to give you a real challenge but then I saw you did the Majunun fight too. Great stuff.
I've been sleeping on the YS series, I had no idea it was a ARPG!
The modern YS games are action RPGs, the first 2 YS games had you bumping into the monsters from behind to attack, just like Hydlide.
@@Icelink256 That doesn't make them not action RPGs; it's just a different way to attack compared to later ones. Also, you don't have to attack them from behind, that's just the safest way.
Yes, and one of the best of it's kind too, esp. Oath in Felghana and Origin
Good job taking down the Majunun!
thnks u
“Huh I wonder why the pc version doesn’t have voice acting?” *hears the Ys 6 voice acting* “oh”
終於邁向新世代遊戲主機~
Congrats, this is an impressive feat (shame it's not Boss Rush, but still)! How long did this take you if you don't mind me asking? Orjugan is an actual nightmare (no pun intended).
A little more than two weeks. Some bosses had from 10 to 24 hours of failed attempts in span of few days (Ernst and Majunun were the biggest problems, of course).
@@ArekTheDragon Damn, insane. Power to you man!
Isn't it character from gellot's profile in a thumbnail.
How are you doing dude?
Mi ricordo di averlo giocato a sto gioco tempo fa su PS2 è stato il mio primo YS me lo ricordo con affetto 😁☺
I'll give a free, non-sexual hug to anyone who can produce valid evidence for how in the hell you're supposed to pronounce the name of the Ys franchise. I've heard a lot of pronunciations, each one making me more confused than the last
A short piece of audio named "Ys: An Old Man With Stories" should have the proper pronounciation.
Edit: At least in English. Apparently "Ys" is pronounced differently in Japanese, English, and Spanish.
It's pronounced "ease".
"Yeast" without the "-t" sound.
The French legend that this series is named after is pronounced like "geese" without the g, and the Japanese pronunciation is just about the same. It's written in Japanese as イース, which is the French pronunciation transcribed in katakana (with an "oo" sound at the end, but there's no way to write it in Japanese without that and usually treated as silent or barely annunciated).
The English pronunciation does tend to vary, though it's usually "ease" or "eese".
