  • It's been a little over a year since we first learned that our home in Pigeon Forge is being taken through eminent domain. Despite our efforts, the situation remains unresolved. We're reaching out to our community for help. We're specifically looking for a road engineer who can assist us in navigating this complex situation.
    If you or someone you know has experience in road engineering and can offer guidance, please reach out to us at doug@dougracecreative.com. Your support could make all the difference. Thank you for standing with us in this challenging time.

    I am so sorry this is happening to you. As a local Realtor I just cannot image the emotions involved here. I stumbled across this video and it sparked my interest since it said PF. I sell investment real estate all of time so I know what my clients put into their properties....their heart and souls most of time. I would be heart broken to see this taken from you. You have inspired me in many ways but most definitely to stand up and speak out for what is right. I would love to meet you the next time you come to town.

    Firstly, people from outside PF need to stop going there and spending money that will pad the pockets of greedy crooks.
    Next, the Race's should contact all Tennessee media outlets...TV, radio, newspaper, etc. and tell them this story. Surely there are still some investigative reporters out there that will put these crooks on the hot seat.
    Finally, seek an aggressive lawyer or two who will sue these crooks into the poor house.

      At this point a total boycott of pf would hurt the workers in pf. Most are good people. It's the new stuff that needs to slow down a bit. We go to pf every few years. We rent from local people, we shop and eat local owners not chain stores or restaurants. You can hurt the working people and local business owners . However those living there needs to vote differently in the upcoming elections. They are like my area the same people have been in office forever. However I have made it my mission to get them out of office. 2 of the 6 were replaced last election and hopefully the rest will be replaced this election including the mayor. They were going to approve 9 houses being built next to my house their rules says I house per acer. The county rules 1 septic tank per acer. I fought the exception aka special privileges for their friends. I called the health department and reminded them of the septic rule they set. I told them if he get special privileges I want to build on my field so I needed them too. I we to the town meeting and voiced my opinion and started a petition. Last week the 2 prices of property went back up for sale because they didn't want to grant a lot of people the same privileges as their buddy. It a long hard fight. I feel bad for this family but encouraging a boycott and hurting innocent workers is not the way to go. If they win and get to keep their house and a boycott caught on they would also be harmed. Look at budweiser even though they gave people what they wanted they still can't give their beer away. Boycott are not so easily ended sometimes. Encourage people to vote better.

    Don’t know where to begin with this issue. I married the love of my life and asked to to marry me on a piece of property I found. Five acres in this same county. In a valley. We were the first to build with the fact that they were all five acre tracks.We were both none locals. Within a year one of the known families from Pigeon Forge bought all the surrounding lots and cut our land completely off of the main access road. Hindering use from the full potential of our land. They came in breaking all the five acre lots into small half acre lots. Starting building sub par homes that when people started to buy them found out the hard way all the issues and started suing the builders. After a dozen of these homes were built they completely stopped building. Within a few months when coming home from work I noticed a small sign on one the the power line post so small I had to get out and walk up to it to read. It stated that this entire area was going to be rezoned from residential to commercial and that it was going to be voted on that same night by the city council. I talked to several of the other people in the valley and asked if they knew anything about this. Everyone had the same response saying they can not do that and just blew it off. I went to the council meeting luckily I knew one of the board members personally. Saw him and stated my case to him and concerns. He had never took the time to actually read this documents for that meeting and told me he would give me the chance to express my concerns to the board. When it came up I was given three minutes to state my case. I was not prepared but I hit the heart of the council when I ended with the following statement. I know none of you have actually went to this area and looked at what you are voting on tonight. I think it is wrong for everyone on this board to make decisions on peoples dreams and I can only pray that someday this exact thing happens to you and all of your families to come in the future. Come to find out the owner of the property around me was planning on turning the rest of the valley into apartment complexes. God has a plan I do know that. They voted and turned down the request. I even made the local papers with my statement saying I hope this happens to you and your families. Long story short. They ended up filling they valley with homes that most only lived in for a couple of years. As for me and the love of my life. After living there for fifteen years. I lost her to cancer in 2020. But it was the best fifteen years of my life. Sold our home to a couple from out of state and they use it as a Cabin rental Telling her story and they named it after her. Look it up it is called Tami’s Dream. I did move out of that county due to the politics. To the next county over. Sad to say this but this county has been controlled by the same families for generations if you come to visit often you will notice how many businesses come and go. They will completely run you out of town for the fact they only want tourism and they do not want you to move here.

      Eminent domain has been a tool for building infrastructure for decades. It will never be illegal. It has been tested in every court in America and prevailed. However, the easement has clearly been altered to benefit one owner over another. The road will be build, but it will be where the original route along the creek was. That only makes common sense. Hope everything works out for you and your family. T's & P's.

    You do realize that this is common place in Et. TN. That is how the park was developed, by taking peoples land, by TVA by taking peoples lake to flood land for the lakes to "provide power to the valley". Had a family member loss a cabin for the park and a grandfather loss family land in Dandridge for the lake and land outside Knoxville they flooded a drive-in theater for Melton Hill Lake. Doesn't make it right in your case and it does look very suspicious the way they redrew the road to save the Campground. Expose who will benefit from it.

    In my area of North Carolina, they took farmland and neighborhoods in eminent domain. Then, they sold that property to a pipeline company to put a pipeline through there. It's against the law to use eminent domain for a for-profit company. One guy is an old veteran in his 70s. His family had thar farm for hundreds of years. In Iowa, they are fighting eminent domain for a pipeline right now. In Idaho, they lost their farmland and houses for the Dakota pipeline. In Fort myers florida, several neighborhoods of poor poc were taken in eminent domain for the Boston red socks spring training field. They play like 8 games in spring there . Then Yeats later they took more land in a different area of fort myers to build a spring training facility fir the twins. Then, years later, the red socks wanted something bigger and better, so they took more land through eminent domain and built them a huge training facility, leaving their old one empty. They don't care who they hurt to get what they want. Look at Maui they can't rebuild their houses, and they government is exploring the idea of eminent domain for a 15 min city. They took land on Maui before, and they never did anything with it, so they sold it to oprah. It's funny how that works. Eminent domain should not be legal. Especially when those making the decision about eminent domain can be paid by they wealthy to vote their way. Our local, state, and federal government has become corrupt and needs to be put back in their place.

    As always, follow the money. You know who owns the campground is the fox in the hen house who decided this. The mayor saying he has no "moral obligation" is bereft of morality. That is *exactly* what it was, a moral obligation to stop your work on the house before you invested your life savings into it, no, to stop the sale of the house to you in the first place. Government is one of the evils we fight every day. It's a hungry monster devouring everything in its path. This could happen to anyone, folks. ~Cynthia

I unfortunately know what it's like to live through a situation like this, my grandparents here in Southwest Virginia went through it finding out their land was to be taken by the county for a new school. I'm truly sorry you're having to experience this. Fight hard & stay strong.

    It doesn't take an engineer to tell you why that road was moved, it was a last minute ditch effort to develop the campground, the mayor watching, he knew that land would be worth something, and he most likely had a hand in it himself or he got the ball rolling on them rushing the campground, and whomever had a vote on taking your property, has a partnership investment is a clear violation and a conflict of interest. Have them investigated. Contact the Institute of Justice and get some national attention, there's a lot of people who would quit coming to Pigeon Forge if they knew they was crooked and people would not buy land there either.

    So i have so mamy questions. When you filed for permits did no one tell you this road was coming? Also what was the price difference they offered you vs the original purchase price of the property? Did the realtor that sold this property not know anything about the road and the development of the camp ground?

    I think you need to refer to the piece of property across the street from you as “an empty field”, not as “the campground” in all of your future videos and conversations with officials and the press unless you are truly talking about the present day developed campground. The decision to move the road appears to have been made prior to the “empty field” being developed. So… “Why was the decision made to move the road to avoid an empty field?” is a much more interesting question with probably a much more diabolical answer.

    In a most recent situation that consisted of legal threats being made towards my husband and myself, my prayer was that the law and the justice of God would prevail over any law of the land. The Lord train fills the temple (Isaiah 6:1) because back in time when a king would win a battle, he would cut off a piece of his opponents robe and add it to his own. It is a reminder that God doesn't lose battles. Prayers for you all.

    If the people that voted on the decision of the road direction were elected by the people, they can be removed by the people. There is no need to wait for another election.
    There is only 1 law that supercedes all others, "Thou Shalt Not Steal".

  • @mommaangela9302

    That campground is exactly why the road changed. Follow the trail to who is invested in it and you’ll have your answer. As an avid RV’er and someone who is researching building a campground business, any sites that run along the creek will be considered premium sites because of the ambience they will create for the camper. I think you need to focus on the city paying you what is rightfully yours vs why did they move the road. It’s plain as day … the campground = more money for the City of Pigeon Forge and investors’ pockets than your short term rental will ever generate for them.

She did it, and she did it for the people of the region. But then, like always...the corporations come in...the whole thing has changed into a tourist trap money pit outside the walls of Dollywood. We went to Dollywood when it first opened. The area was full of small artist shops and real restaurants. Now, we went back in 2019....nothing like it was. Now it is corporate greed and nothing else.

    It sounds like the realtor did not perform due diligence & provide full disclosure. It sounds like the mayor/council have conflicts of interest if they own property adjacent to the connector. The buyer should have performed due diligence. With these obstacles, the timeline is key as to connector plans, connector plan changes, campground ownership timeline, sale of rental house, purchase of rental house, etc.

    1Timothy 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
    2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
    3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
    4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
    5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
    6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
    7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

    I wonder if there was some geological reason why they can’t go through the campground? I hate eminent domain and government intervention, especially as a local to Pigeon Forge. I’m very much a “gov’t leave me alone” type. But I genuinely wonder if there’s some issue with the water table or a sink hole or some other reason related to the geography of the creek that they can’t put a road there. Probably not, but it’s something to consider.

Which fundamentally we all know building a straight line is most certainly going to be cheaper than adding two turns. I feel so bad for you, that someone else’s greed is causing you so much pain.

I believe God has called me to one of the seven mountains in the bible. The mountain of JUSTICE. Eminent Domain is ugly and in our case there are so many layers to the injustice that happened to our family you cannot wrap your mind around it. I hope this explains some what better. God bless you.

      My advice is to embrace the situation and not as though it is steam-rolling you. Pray for all those involved. (I’m sure you do.) Since God is in your storm, He knows the end (from before it began) and the purpose for it. Don’t focus on the ugly but only what God is doing because He is never unjust and His plan is the only one that matters. It’s His property and His mountain of Justice. Rest in that. God bless you!

    The inherent dangers of curved roads versus a straightaway are fairly obvious. It seems they always find a way to save historical or cultural heritage when it comes to locations. I’m kidding but maybe Lincoln visited or Native Americans had significance to the land you own. Dig in your backyard and locate some pottery. The problems with current times is that everyone knows the politicians and lower level folks can perform immoral acts and not “break” the law. It’s common practice nowadays for people to turn a blind eye to practices that others would never dream of doing. So stay the course, I’m certain that the struggle you are encountering will give others the encouragement they need to do similar and save their land as well!
