What is your favorite Fuji recipe you are currently using?
Awesome video love the simulations you showed off. I'm going to give them a try for sure.
Let me know which ones you like the most!
Great video man really well put together.
I appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you got a new recipe to try out!
Thanks for sharing your recipes with us.
My shooting style is very similar to yours. I prefer to shoot jpeg and do not care for a lot of post processing.
Of my seven custom recipes, two are black & white. One of the two B&W is infrared. I will study your two B&W recipes to see what I can use.
have fun and experiment!
Cool Man! Thanks for Share! :)
Thanks for watching! Hope you found a new simulation to try out
I enjoyed this, thank you!
I like your black and white format, it's different :)
Glad you got something from this!
this is gold, keep up bro
Thanks man I appreciate the kind words
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your favorites. I've tried so many film recipes/simulations and somehow I keep going back to Kodachrome 64 for just about everything I shoot.
What's your go-to Kodachrome look? Been looking to try out a new one!
Ricoh custom settings can be named and since they're "custom defaults" instead of simulations, they can come with their own min/max ISO settings. Finding a Ricoh simulation community has been great fun
Tri-X-esque is my thing definitely. I took a few photos this morning outside, it was pissing rain and misty, and looking at them just gives me something back, it's all atmosphere and suggestion and I was just trying out this 7Artisan 25mm I just received, which is turning out to be pretty sweet. Your photo of the palm and pyramid(?) has the same vibe. Also the stark contrast, like with the statue. I also love Goya and Caravaggio, which kinda explains things. Nice job, Colin👍😊p.s. oh, I tend to go to b+w with red filter for stock savagery, then underexpose or mess about till it looks right. I think the weather itself did the work today..
Goya and Caravaggio are HUGE inspirations for me as well. Actually have a Goya tattoo on my upper arm haha
@@ColinHarris Hah brilliant🤝👍👍
Just got the X100VI. At first I was disappointed. I typically shoot Sony and the Fuju was just not as responsive, fast or precise. But the more I explore these recipes I have a whole new approach and appreciation of Fuji. I set up the X100VI with a few of your recommended recipes and am excited to explore them. Sub.
The fuji's are a different breed of camera. You're not getting the latest and greatest that Canon or Sony are going to give you but making a photo with a fuji feels more organic to me.
I shoot with the X100T....one hell of a camera !!!! just amazing !!! It doesn't have many of the color simulations that yours has (X100V?)...anyway, I really like Classic Chrome for street and Astia for people...also like the others.....what I love about this little gem, is not only the color simulations but.......the built in flash......I don't know if you have noticed that this little camera's built in flash, always...and I mean always....delivers just the right amount of light (fill flash)....I have tried this with my DSLR's and after a few tweaks I can get the same results (fill flash wise) but, many times, while shooting out there, you have no time for adjustments...it's all shoot and go for me. Thanks for the video, found it very useful !!!! (Subscribed).
Thanks for the sub! Honestly I don't use the flash enough. The main issue is that I have a lens hood screwed on the front that obstructs the flash and I rarely take the thing off. I need to remove it and try some more flash photos with it cause I LOVE a good on camera harsh flash look
@colin! Quick question: What are the film sims that you used on the first 4 photos in the recap part? (esp the 2 after 3:50).... BEAUTIFUL colours on them ....THANKS a ton in advance!
Also, as for me - Kodachrome 64 sims from Ritchie are a godsend .... also, Pro Neg Std is SUCH an underrated simulation.
I believe those were '1979' taken on my old X100s. I've tried a Kodachrome before but I always felt like my reds got too punchy with them
Pretty much live on Reggie’s Portra and Tri-X 400 (but I don’t use Clarity since it slows down the camera)
Oh interesting! I don't think I've ever noticed that clarity slows down the cam, but typically I only ever shoot a burst of 3 or 4 images at a time
@@ColinHarrisclarity gets deactivated if you shoot in burst. If you take a single Image it takes about a second to process so the camera having to process like five Images with clarity wouldnt work.
Hey Colin! Love the video. Just curious to ask, when you say ISO, is that the ISO you are ALWAYS shooting at for each film recipe?
I never go below it when shooting but I will go above it. The "base ISO" is more for getting the best dynamic range out of each simulation.
Love this shit. But on my X-T1 I simply shoot straight Monochrome with highlights and shadows both pushed all the way up. That’s what I consider perfect Black & White.
Whatever looks good to your eye is what’s perfect! That black and white is “my” perfect black and white
Bonjour.. Great video.. Thanks for sharing... You've mentioned leica b&w recipe being great for portrait... Which color one would you recommend for portrait.. Merci
Really depends on the style you like. 1979 is my perfect recipe for every day!
@@ColinHarris ok.. Cool.. Merci
Which version of the Leica Monochrome do you prefer? V1 or V2. The site for those recipes says the V2 is better for people in the photos. I only have 7 slots available for these simulations. I sure wish Fuji would have included more space. I can’t decide on which ones to load. Lol
Yep I'm constantly cycling through different simulations too haha.
I use the V2 of the Leica Monochrome, but to be fair I haven't tried V1. I'd give both a try and see which one you like best for how you shoot!
@@ColinHarris I’m using V1 currently and so much I really like it. Big complaint is my Fuji app to transfer from X-E3 to IPad worked initially but now crashes every time. I’ll try to reinstall it but it’s not warming my grinch heart right now. Love the whole Fuji setup though. Coming from Sony and Leica. I do love the small travel size. I may just end up doing what I’ve always done and export the RAW files into Lightroom and have my fun. Much more latitude that way. But JPEGs straight out of camera have a certain appeal.
A question about the stated ISO for each filter. Is this a target ISO that I should not change or it is just the baseline that I should not go lower?
I never drop below that ISO but you can always go above. Play around with each one and see what works best for the way you photograph!
quick question - how do i change the base iso and limit for it on the x-t30ii?
Not entirely sure on the t30 but I will set an ISO limit in the menus when programming each simulation
What lut you used for your BW video? Looks great
Thank you. It's a LUT I built years ago for a project that I use on all my videos. One of my favorite black and white looks
You know you can rename the 7 slots so you don't have to write then down in yiur phone right??
Unfortunately, I can't rename on the x100f. The newer cams have that option though.
@@ColinHarrisi heard about an firmware update? But not sure if it is for the F or only on the T model?!
@@misterchuckerNeither. The “firmware update” is buying a V.
hahaha love that response!
I started with the xt30, got the x pro3 now but tested the x100f some weeks ago. I was surprised you couldnt name youe custom slots like wtf Fuji....
Do you guys keep your Fuji at the Auto mode (Aperture priority) Whenever I am not on this mode my recipes are just trash
I bounce around with my settings but typically yes I'm in aperture priority. Just easier so I can focus on shooting
will these work similarly on the x100vi?
Not 100% sure but I'm sure the results would be close with some minor tweaking
Do you have for x trans 1
Never had an X Trans 1 camera so I don't have any sims for it. Best advice is to look some up online, or play with some of the ones I posted and see how they react with your camera's color!
Is that the BUF logo on your shirt?
Nah it's a brewery. Powerhouse in Puyallup WA
@@ColinHarris good. It looks awfully similar though, best not walk around with the UK with that on
you can name the Sims in camera
Unfortunately I can't rename in my x100f. I've heard you can in the x100v though
@@ColinHarris hmm I was not aware that you can't. Too bad. So a X100VI in your future
Its more like advertising useless x100 line, you can shoot Jpegs with all Fuji cameras using same recipea
Glad you enjoyed the video
