Hey dude, just found your channel, love it.Just got an xpro2 and like you I hate editing…..just out of interest did you use a lens filter of any sort? Thanks man.✌️
Thanks man! I alternate between a CineBloom 20% and my favorite Tiffen Black Satin 3
Hello! Could you tell me which memory card to use in this camera? I can't find any compatible ones.
I use the Sandisk 95mb cards
Ever wonder what Cinestill 800T would say if it were a person instead of a film stock? Well wonder no more! If you like having fun and have 51 seconds to share, go check out my latest youtube short "If Film Were People Episode 2" Thanks for sharing brother! Subbed!!
Bonjour.. Great video.. Thanks for sharing... You've mentioned leica b&w recipe being great for portrait... Which color one would you recommend for portrait.. Merci
Really depends on the style you like. 1979 is my perfect recipe for every day!
@@ColinHarris ok.. Cool.. Merci
Thanks for sharing your recipes with us. My shooting style is very similar to yours. I prefer to shoot jpeg and do not care for a lot of post processing. Of my seven custom recipes, two are black & white. One of the two B&W is infrared. I will study your two B&W recipes to see what I can use.
have fun and experiment!
Its more like advertising useless x100 line, you can shoot Jpegs with all Fuji cameras using same recipea
Glad you enjoyed the video
Just got the X100VI. At first I was disappointed. I typically shoot Sony and the Fuju was just not as responsive, fast or precise. But the more I explore these recipes I have a whole new approach and appreciation of Fuji. I set up the X100VI with a few of your recommended recipes and am excited to explore them. Sub.
The fuji's are a different breed of camera. You're not getting the latest and greatest that Canon or Sony are going to give you but making a photo with a fuji feels more organic to me.
Spot on! I have owned the x100s, x100t and x100f (yeah, GAS). Sold them all. Mainly because I also have an x-t3 with a 23mm lens, and just couldn't justify having one more camera - and never could decide which to bring. It is stressfull enough when I want to bring a camera to whatever, and can't decide on which lens (or lenses 😵) to bring for my x-t3. Photography should be fun! Fast forward and I finally got time (two grown up kids) to look through all my images (more than 1Tb) and I constantly got dragged towards images with a certain look (character), and lo and behold, they were all taken with my x100 cameras throughout the years. So I started looking on the used market and found a well kept x100s, bought it, and I absolutely LOVE it. Suddenly it is fun to take photos again. And yeah, it occasionally gives me false AF confirmation, and is not the fastest camera in the world (I have high performance on), but overall I am super happy having my "old buddy" back, and the images it produces still looks stellar. Actually I prefer the s over the t and f, as the first thing I noticed when I upgraded to the t and had both cameras in hand, was the noisy AF of the later models. I guess it's because the AF is more aggressive (faster) on the newer models, but it kind of goes against the quiet leaf shutter, when the AF noise is what brings the attention to you.
That's the whole point of these cameras! They make photography fun. Every time I take my camera out I have such a blast shooting
I've had this camera for about five years. It's the only digital camera I've ever owned but I agree with everything said. Still after 5 years a third of what I shoot is unusable (too light, too dark, too shaky, badly focussed), but the 2/3 that remains looks great. I grade it with Cineprint 16 and it gives you the best impression of 16mm you could get without actually shooting in 16mm. I cannot tell the difference, if you'd told me the footage in your video was shot on a 16mm I would have believed you.
It's such a beast of a little camera that loves to fight you every step of the way!
Lately, I really like the way the image turns out, if you process the video from the camera through the Filmbox plugin, it turns out as if you are shooting on a real 16 mm film) I plan to conduct several experiments on my channel.
Filmbox is cool! I played around with it but now typically stick with my power grade setup
It's been 8 months since I posted this and I've only used Dehancer twice. One on a work project and the other to test a diffusion look on some personal footage. That should sum up how I feel about it.
Do you guys keep your Fuji at the Auto mode (Aperture priority) Whenever I am not on this mode my recipes are just trash
I bounce around with my settings but typically yes I'm in aperture priority. Just easier so I can focus on shooting
Brilliant video bud, inspires me to get shooting with my x100s arriving next week
Appreciate the kind words! I miss my x100s and only upgraded because I really wanted classic chrome
Is that the BUF logo on your shirt?
Nah it's a brewery. Powerhouse in Puyallup WA
@@ColinHarris good. It looks awfully similar though, best not walk around with the UK with that on
Drop your wedding photography tips below!
will these work similarly on the x100vi?
Not 100% sure but I'm sure the results would be close with some minor tweaking
What is one piece of filmmaking advice you'd give to everyone?
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your favorites. I've tried so many film recipes/simulations and somehow I keep going back to Kodachrome 64 for just about everything I shoot.
What's your go-to Kodachrome look? Been looking to try out a new one!
Great video - I'm subscriber 991!
Thank you! Glad to have you here!
I shoot with the X100T....one hell of a camera !!!! just amazing !!! It doesn't have many of the color simulations that yours has (X100V?)...anyway, I really like Classic Chrome for street and Astia for people...also like the others.....what I love about this little gem, is not only the color simulations but.......the built in flash......I don't know if you have noticed that this little camera's built in flash, always...and I mean always....delivers just the right amount of light (fill flash)....I have tried this with my DSLR's and after a few tweaks I can get the same results (fill flash wise) but, many times, while shooting out there, you have no time for adjustments...it's all shoot and go for me. Thanks for the video, found it very useful !!!! (Subscribed).
Thanks for the sub! Honestly I don't use the flash enough. The main issue is that I have a lens hood screwed on the front that obstructs the flash and I rarely take the thing off. I need to remove it and try some more flash photos with it cause I LOVE a good on camera harsh flash look
you can name the Sims in camera
Unfortunately I can't rename in my x100f. I've heard you can in the x100v though
@@ColinHarris hmm I was not aware that you can't. Too bad. So a X100VI in your future
this is gold, keep up bro
Thanks man I appreciate the kind words
The world needs more people like you
Ricoh custom settings can be named and since they're "custom defaults" instead of simulations, they can come with their own min/max ISO settings. Finding a Ricoh simulation community has been great fun
I enjoyed this, thank you! I like your black and white format, it's different :)
Glad you got something from this!
Love this shit. But on my X-T1 I simply shoot straight Monochrome with highlights and shadows both pushed all the way up. That’s what I consider perfect Black & White.
Whatever looks good to your eye is what’s perfect! That black and white is “my” perfect black and white
Awesome video love the simulations you showed off. I'm going to give them a try for sure.
Let me know which ones you like the most!
What's your number one editing tip?
20 years??????? you mean 10 years!!!
Hahaha wow can't believe I missed that! I knew something looked off about that title
Im not personally a fan of country music. (I actually kinda hate it lol.) But this era for country is pretty good.
Cool Man! Thanks for Share! :)
Thanks for watching! Hope you found a new simulation to try out
What are your goals for 2024?
Thank you for this. I’m dragging my heals with getting ideas into action so need to follow your lead.
Colin, this was a lot of fun. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. They were helpful and I kinda feel the way you do. I'd love to have Dehancer, but honestly I wouldn't use it that often. and I kind of like tweaking my own looks. The subscription plan is for me outrageously additive. If I could get it free with a use meter of say 10 times a year, I'd definitely get it.
A use meter is a brilliant idea!
Hey Colin! Love the video. Just curious to ask, when you say ISO, is that the ISO you are ALWAYS shooting at for each film recipe?
I never go below it when shooting but I will go above it. The "base ISO" is more for getting the best dynamic range out of each simulation.
A question about the stated ISO for each filter. Is this a target ISO that I should not change or it is just the baseline that I should not go lower?
I never drop below that ISO but you can always go above. Play around with each one and see what works best for the way you photograph!
Great feeling, simple, but solid straight to the point advice. You should definitely do more of these kinds of videos, keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words! Glad you took something from this and liked it
Trying to find the right camera for a podcast room. We rent the room by the hour and are typically shooting 2 to 3 Guest at a time. I heard the black magic was great because it worked with so many of the pieces of equipment that we use. Getting ready to work with it this week. What’s your favourite glass for the BM?
I swear by the Panasonic 12-35 but any micro 4/3 lens is a great addition to your kit.
could you link the music , curious where you find good tunes
Oh man, I don't remember where this track is from. I've had accounts with Musicbed, Artlist, and Soundstripe before so it's got to be where this one is from.
@@ColinHarris , all good your choice of music is top notch , I have another question im getting into filming cinematic music videos and was wondering what is an easy to use cinema camera for a novice , there are so many options and dont know where to start the dj osmo pocket 3 seems like a good start however a used bmpcc also seems like a good option , what would you recommend?
Grat job! 🙂The "OG" is still beast! 🔥
Absolutely! Still one of the best images out of a camera
@colin! Quick question: What are the film sims that you used on the first 4 photos in the recap part? (esp the 2 after 3:50).... BEAUTIFUL colours on them ....THANKS a ton in advance! Also, as for me - Kodachrome 64 sims from Ritchie are a godsend .... also, Pro Neg Std is SUCH an underrated simulation.
I believe those were '1979' taken on my old X100s. I've tried a Kodachrome before but I always felt like my reds got too punchy with them
What lut you used for your BW video? Looks great
Thank you. It's a LUT I built years ago for a project that I use on all my videos. One of my favorite black and white looks
I bought Dehancer Lite and since I already owned Filmconvert I added their halation effect.
That sounds like a great workflow!
Was just going to ask if you had that "line" down the middle with some of your "bokeh" since its been moded..I have scene it with some other videos...but you answered the question already..lol I guess you can't escape that "fishing line" down the middle since..thats the only way they have figured to get that "effect"..lol I have had mine for a while and enjoy it a lot..the only "mod" I asked them to do is to put a larger rubber like focus ring around the original focus ring..so it will be easier to focus..and kinda future proof myself incase I ever want to use a follow focus adapter for video..it will be easier to grab the larger focus ring..
The focus ring addition is brilliant. I don't think that was an option when I bought one but that would have been great!
Brilliant video, thank you. Like you I feel they have an amazing product but think with some further development they can make this a mainstream tool for Newbs, like me, to experts like you. I have spent months trying to understand what works with what and I feel that grouping and presents would help. Example, is it positive or negative grain with x, how best to use if you want to stay in a HDR workflow and so on. I paid for it and and now, after 7 months plus, beginning to get somewhere.
Yep Dehancer was a huge learning curve when I made the video. Now after a few months I don't think I've used the plugin once since then. I really need to take the time to learn it on a deeper level
@@ColinHarris oh and I have had great results just using print stock with halation and bloom. Occasionally I will use film emulation but I turn the output down quite a bit. It's been working well for 8 bit overblown highlight. All this said it's tricky.
Is it good for stills or it’s particularly for cinematic videos? Thanks
No stills just a great video camera!
I have one unmodded one. And I have a love hate relationship with it. It's sooo annoying sometimes but some of the things it helps create is just pure magic haha. Does the anamorphic mod increase the field of view at all?
No the anamorphic just gives you a more oval bokeh. Some people call it an anamorfake haha
What other lenses are you pairing with it? Because it's such a distinct look (Anamorfake or not) that it's hard to find other glass that will give continuity in any shoot. Or are you literally shooting your entire deliverable(s) with one type of glass?
Typically if I use it on a project, that's the only lens I use. Or I'll split it up and use it just for content or b-roll to give those sections a specialty look
This lens is a beast. I own non-anamorphic one yet it is still a tool I enjoy creating with. Great photos and great video capabilities. And it is so cheap everyone can afford it. I got mine in perfect condition. Great footage. Cool content. What I can see nowadays people start understanding digital image is becoming less natural and pleasing. I own top photo lenses but none of em is as good as Helios. Keep going with more interesting content. Cheers!
Thank you! There is something really special about the look you can get with these lenses. So unique
Have you used a Helios? Do you want one? What about the anamorphic mod?
I really love those cameras for lower resolution work, but they are no longer supported, at least from what I understand. My first one pretty much fell apart, mechanically, and my second one quit working as well, with an electronic problem relating to the camera talking to the lens; it was over-heating too... It's a shame. The main issue I had was that the display is so small and has such low resolution. Other than that, the Cinema DNG 10 bit capability just rocks! For a higher resolution camera, the Ursa mini pro G2 is pretty great, and the newer Ursa with Gen 5 color... The Ursa, at least to my eye, has the best color and all around picture quality short of getting into something like a Red. As much as I like the various Japanese cameras, at least for me, the color response just doesn't look as natural as the Blackmagic cameras or the Red.
