- Tips for playing football in the rain - in today's video JayMike takes a look at some decent tips for if you're playing football in the rain. A lot of football players would say that playing football in the rain is the best weather to play and there's no doubt that it's a different experience compared to playing in dry weather conditions. In today's video you'll hear more about how you can think about your playing style on the football pitch to adjust for the fact that it's wet and slippery out there - and also, JayMike will take a look at how you can get the right football gear to play in the rain. That includes getting a pair of SG football boots - or even going with the boss version, the Nike Anti-Clog technology that prevents mud from sticking to your football boots. As football pitches are often wet, soft and muddy in the rain, you need some extra traction, and football boots with SG studs can give you that as the SG boots feature longer and fewer studs, giving you a better and firmer grip and traction in the ground despite it being soft and muddy. So get yourself some good football boots with SG studs, get some proper shin pads to protect yourself and remember to dry your football boots properly when you're done playing in the rain to make sure they don't fall apart early.

In my experience, playing in the rain can be fun at times but if you're playing in a serious match for a club or something or perhaps in a tournament it's best to keep things simple and you know play to your basics...cuz all the flashy stuff doesn't work in wet conditions

Training in the rain and what you will wear in a match is fundamental to playing in the rain, if your not used to it, you wont perform as well. And dont over hit your long balls or passes, hold back on the weight slightly otherwise you”ll just lose possession because the ball will take off on the wet surface
1. Hit the ball a little bit more harder than usual to pass.
2. Be aware of the first bounce(for defenders). On a slick field, a ball that travels through the air line drive will pick up speed on the first bounce. Many of these balls will skip a player. So when the ball is in the air put your body in the path of the ball because even if you were not able to control the ball, you'll at least be able to prevent it from skipping you.
3. Be aware of the first bounce(for attackers). Look for the ball that is about to bounce in front of defender, read the flight of the ball and the defender's body language as the ball approaches. And if you truly believe it is going to bounce then just make a proactive run past that defender.
4. Hunt for rebounds. As they are more likely to happen on rainy days.
5. When the field gets overrun with standing water, it's no longer about pretty football. It's about territory. Get the ball in the air and down the field and in front of of the opponent's goal.

Honestly I play left back and the most sliding tackles I've completed are in dry conditions. But I enjoy sliding tackles in both conditions.

I have a small question, what if I play in artificial grass and it's raining is it safe to use SG boots?
I am playing in Malaysia and without SG boots you would not be able to play when it rains. Makes such a big difference so that you don't slip over and you can move in different directions quicker with better traction. If you want to play serious then you should definetly purchase a pair.

I just wanted to add a couple of things you should also keep in mind depending on how to chose the right pair of boots in wet weather. Yes, leather boots absorb more water and will be heavier. On the other hand, because everyone will use SG boots (with metal studs), if someone steps on your foot, it will hurt even more than normal and you risk getting injured. So a thick leather upper will be a lot safer than a thin synthetic boot in that regard. It depends on you what is more important to you. Funfact: Bastian Schweinsteiger always put his leather boots in water before a game, because he actually liked the feel of wet leather!
For me personally the best "wet weather boots" have always been synthetic boots with a thicker upper that also have some control elements like the CTR360 Maestri iii or the Predator Instinct. Sadly, those boots are not produced anymore.

As a goalkeeper I hate playing in the rain because my gloves always get slippery (don't have Aqua gloves) and when somebody shoots on net the ball skips on the ground which results to the ball traveling quicker.

They’re custom made for the shape of their foot so I guess they don’t really need to break them in if their shoes are already shaped to the exact specification 👍🏻
Also, I dont think they get a new pair every match, its just that they have their kit man to clean them when required...
+Manisha Singh their boots are custom shaped to their feet and many times the kitman uses the hot water trick because they can replace boots whenever they want. That trick breaks the boots, particularly the glue but it seeps into the upper and changes the feel

Seeing as it rain in the U.K virtually every time I play Sunday football in the U.K useful tips. Boot wise my problem is I cannot afford x2 pairs of £250 boots so I just tend to use FG no matter the weather, I should really invest in cheaper SGs though.
