I love Captain America and Superman BECAUSE they are the moral compasses of their universes. That line, "The price of freedom is high, and it's a price I'm willing to pay" was so powerful. Can't wait to see this.

Grace always manages to say something completely crazy towards the end. As a comic book reader, she should know there can be separate stories about SHIELD in a medium, because that happens ALL THE TIME in comics. I seriously am beginning to doubt if Grace really reads comics.

The SHIELD from the TV show is very distant to the rest of SHIELD. Every so often we'll get SHIELD agents prominently featured in the comics, but that's about it. They've announced their second Thor crossover, yet we've still not seen an ounce of Captain America, or even Hawkeye, Black Widow, or Falcon. I was hoping at the beginning that the "team" would be composed of some of those "specialty" SHIELD agents like Hawkeye and Falcon, y'know, agents with inexplicable gimmicks. I'm still fairly pleased with the show, and I feel it's going in the direction we all want it to, just very very slowly.

I'm loving this movie right now. Those two lines were a bit cheesy, but other lines in the trailers are good enough. The fact is that the movie is going to have a struggle in tone, with the classic Marvel light tone, and the dark elements they're trying to bring in here.

The Winter Soldier's costume and action scenes look top notch. I'm sold on this movie. I recommend anyone who doesn't know the identity of the Winter Soldier go watch or re-watch the first Captain America movie right before you go see this one. That way the reveal will carry a bit more weight.

Not every movie has to be dark at the same time not every movie should be overflowing with dumb humor unless its a comedy, that was what went wrong with Iron man 3 and a lot of other stuff. Thor 2 almost suffered from it too, i miss the days when marvel had a perfect mix of both. E.g Iron Man 1, The incredible hulk(which for some reason no one talks about, it was an awesome movie), and captain america. They had a perfect mix

This trailer showed Captain America: Winter Soldier to be a bit more sophisticated of the comic book movies coming out this year. I love the late 60's-70's cold war vibe. I really was worried on what direction they would go with Cap after the Avengers, but so far all signs point to MARVEL knows what they are doing. I love that Falcon and Widow are major players. So looking forward to this film.

I love the juxtaposition which is centred around Cap, his WW2 outlook clashing spectacularly with the modern world of fewer blacks and whites and more greys. America's claims of being the good guys has been tarnished, and it will be interesting how that plays out. Both iron Man 2 and now this is going down the Cold War sort of route, of America's unfinished business abroad coming back to haunt them ,perhaps justifiably, and given who the Winter Soldier is, it ought to make for an intriguing personal conflict for Rogers as well.

S.H.I.E.L.D. is actually turning out to be a pretty good show. Sure, it's not about super heroes, but it wasnt supposed to be. It's about the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I think it took a little while for it to get going, but if you follow it, it does really get better. If it makes it to season 2, then I think it will win a lot of people back.

I run the SHIELD show in the background when i'm doing homework or something else just so i know whats going on in the movies with the Universe they're building and the show does not take place in the same building(Helicarrier) as the movies. Coulson's team is more of a Special Ops team thats constantly on the move, they don't hang out at Shield HQ not to mention Coulson has Level 7 Clearance, i doubt Fury would give Cap that much clearance, the only person that might now about Coulson is Black Widow the way its set up

  • @archer1949

    "Those lines seem hokey".
    BULLS#!T!!!!!!!!
I think those lines were perfect for the character and the situation.
Like what was said about Cap in the Avengers, "Maybe we need a little old-fashioned".
I love Cap. I have always loved Cap. Like Superman, he's not an easy character to handle. It's easy for any hack writer to go grimngritty antihero or cocky smartass. But it's hard to write a real hero.
I love the 40's Gary Cooper/Jimmy Stewart retro vibe he exudes. He's honest. It's refreshing
Especially now that everybody and their dog DEMANDS that all characters be Wolverine or Batman. Grimngrittty is fine if it fits the character. But not every character works with that. Cap is one of them.
And Chris Evans is perfect. He is in NO WAY "Wooden". He's very charismatic in a difficult role. He's got just the right blend of toughness, earnestness and charm. Anyone who can't see that is blind.
"It might not appeal to the common moviegoer".
    Yawn.
Do you know what happens when you strive to hit every demographic? You end up with those god awful Fast and Furious crapfests. I HATE those things. They represent the worst that modern Hollywood has to offer.
They're cynical and crass and brain dead and deadly dull and STINK of assembly by corporate committee. Yeah, they've been making money. But one day, people will tire of this empty formula and leave in droves. I doubt Kevin Feige is going to bet so much on a idiotic fad. He's in for the long haul.
All a REAL filmmaker should do is stay true to the characters and story. Stay away from trendy gimmicks and let the chips fall where they may.
I can't wait for this movie.

Love this trailer! Thanks for the review. No problem with the TV show & movies co-existing because Coulson's team has their HQ on their own private jet with the specific task of hunting down super powered artifacts and individuals. They don't do regular SHEILD "defend America, save the world" stuff. Also, Coulson is the built in crossover who will cameo in the movies while Fury & Maria Hill cameo on TV.

Considering that Cap is litteraly left over from the 40's I think it's ok if he's a little hokey. Though, if they were going realistic with him he should also be pretty racist and sexist too. At least by today's standards. XD
I think with the TV show, they should ether go full HBO or go home. If I was in charge I'd put the TV appearances for the film stars into the film budget/scedual and wright that into the actors contracts. They way the actors don't have to take a pay cut to appear in the show and the show doesn't have to sacrifice large parts of it's budget to have film stars appear. But the Show has to be quality. It would also require the show have a planned season story arch.

Hmm... I'm not so sure, see it's not just racist/not-racist there's a gradient. Back in the day there were a lot of racial stereotypes that were just taken as fact. Even though he might have been progressive for the time, he would still be a man of his time. He's from a time before even second wave feminism. I mean, you could argue that, not being an asshole, he'd adjust but it would still be a shock.

This far and away the best of the bunch in my opinion for the block busters this year. I love that, like Cap in the comics, it's not just Cap, it's Cap and his team, Falcon and Natasha have both been co heroes in Cap's books at various times, and it is really nice to see that continued here. Unlike James Rhodes, Falcon was never really Cap's side kick, and neither was Natasha when they teamed.
I think you are mistaken regarding the Movie T.V. tie in, and that you dislike the show is fine (though if you can, check out the bridge episode and the ensuing fall out, I think you might find it better) The SHIELD series is about the day to day activities of the SHIELD, and really just one team among hundreds dealing with issues around the globe. It will seem smaller, because it is smaller. But the team can cross paths in the film, and vice versa, with out either shrinking the heroes, or out sizing the show. It's just a question of telling two different stories.

I feel like you're a little harsh on Shield for not watching it. It really has gotten better as it's gone on. The Coulson Reveal was particularly well done, albeit a bit rushed... that's the biggest problem.
The problem I see as a Shield viewer is that they have developed Coulson's character so much, his character doesn't mesh as well with the universe. He was a very by-the-book agent in the MCU, but on the show, he's become very human and he's endearing to the Nth degree. He isn't the same man, though that might be the point.... I also worry a bit about the hierarchy within SHIELD. Coulson is supposed to be a decently high-ranked agent, as well as some of his counterparts, but I honestly can't see anyone but Agent May crossing over with Coulson, if they have that intention to bring him back.

To the questions about the TV show it has gotten better now that they got all of the questions about Coulson and what he is out of the way, the last two episodes have been the best so far. I think the point of the TV show is missed, it is not about the big events it is about enriching the world and putting a face on the worker bees at shield. Because I watch the show with that expectation I don't expect any crossover from movies down. The only part of the show that bothers me is that when Coulson is saved/resurrected/built the tech that they show is far superior to the operating room we see working on Fury.

This looks sooo good from the trailers. I'm really digging the 1970s political-thriller vibe. I hope the movie lives up to it. Thor 2 was enjoyable, but the trailers promised a darker, grittier look at Asgard, but the movie was quite silly.
As for Cap suffering from Superman / Boy Scout Syndrome, I think it can really work well here. He represents the Ideal; what America can and should be. I think putting him at odds with what modern America actually is provides some great contrast. I also don't think Chris Evans is held back by the Cap persona. He still seems like a happy-go-lucky guy at heart, and his line in Avengers about there being one God and He "doesn't dress like that" is the funniest in the Marvel movie canon.

No dont get rid of AoS. they did a little bit of Thor 2 crossover and Fury showing up was epic too. BUT. they need to do more of that. AoS Started of Good then dipped a bit and now its picking up again. Granted its no Arrow. but i do see potential in the series. I just have a feeling that someone at marvel is holding AoS back. its risky because if they do allow Supers to show in AoS it will make it harder to write then in future Marvel films. Something Arrow has less problems with.

Besides Maleficent, this is my most anticipated movie of the year. I think they can really make Captain America cool to maybe compete with the other characters in the Avengers, making him the actual leader of the team this time. But I do hope Black Widow has an good development in the movie. Marvel needs to give their woman characters more substance and spotlight, something I'm really missing right now.

My reaction? I think it can be summed up as
    Squuuuueeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, I'm getting worried they won't be able to live up to my expectations. Acting wise I don't think it's a probblem, I just hope the story holds up as well.
Can't believe I'm this pumped about a Captain America movie!!? Well done Marvel. Well done!

I see absolutely no problem with having a Shield TV series and Shield movies franchise at the same time. Shield is a big organization and there is more than enough room to allow both to exist with or without crossovers. Again, look at the Star Trek franchise of the 90's! If it can work for Star Trek, it can work for Marvel.

I've always like Capt. America's "straight and narrow" appeal. It's like he's a Paladin in the true sense of the word. I say that because although Capt. is a Patriot, he isn't a patriot in the modern political context of that word (i.e. right-wing extremest). He truley cares about his fellow Americans and has even head butted against the Republican Tea Party. And I find a Paladin like character like that very interesting.

Captain America is very near and dear to my heart! so I hope this film turns out the way I hope. The story of the winter soldier is perhaps one of my favorite stories, so I hope they get it right. If the "actor" can pull this portrayal off, then all due credit and respect is owed. In the trailer they defiantly do an accurate job of showing him to be a legit threat with his action scenes , weapons. Which to me is important if people buy into the winter soldier as a threat the film will be very successful.

I don't see a problem between this movie and the S.H.I.E.L.D. series. The show focuses on Coulson's team and their mobile command (the physics defying 747). I can also see an organization like S.H.I.E.L.D. having a number of buildings to function out of, seeing as redundancy is kinda a big deal with intelligence agencies. To borrow a quote from Hydra: if a head is cut off, two more will take its place.

    • @stryletz
      @stryletz Před 10 lety

Tebigong101 You want to talk about bad, how about the first Captain America movie. It was completely pointless other than to introduce the character for The Avengers movie. I wrote it off after it stopped the plot for what felt like a 10 min music montage, killed all momentum.
As for AoS, at best it's been mildly entertaining. Hopefully, there will be some major improvements in the next season. I don't think Disney will just let it fail.

    • @Tebigong101
      @Tebigong101 Před 10 lety

Matthew Stryletz I enjoyed the first Cap movie, I've always thought Thor was the worst of the intros by far.
I tried with AoS, I hated it after the first episode. But I kept up but 7-8 episodes in and I still hated team lineup, the predictable stories. But the Agents May and Ward thing and J. August Richards back (he can't act) I was well and truly done. I had such high hopes for this show, don't know why people like me are often still disappointed by network TV and definitely by a Joss Whedon production.

    • @stryletz
      @stryletz Před 10 lety

Tebigong101 I see where you're coming from with Thor's first movie, much like Captain America: The First Avenger, it's only point for existing is to help introduce the character for the Avengers movie. But, I actually enjoyed it a bit more than the Captain America movie, what can I say I'm a fan of Tom Hiddleston. Loki might be the most recognized role of his career. Plus, it seems to be doing quite well with the ladies.
I agree with your sentiments on AoS. The only reason I watch it is for Clark Greg's agent Coulson. The way I see it is the series will go one of three ways.
      1) Disney refuses to let one of its properties go down in flames and puts pressure on the production team to institute changes (which they might have already as the last two episode weren't that bad, but those could have been flukes).
      2) Disney refuses to let the show fail and keeps it on life support until the cost of production outweighs their pride.
      3) Changes are made, but the show gets canceled anyway, much like other high cost productions of this type in the past. cough* The Flash cough*

The future falcon and Sif have both been on agents of shield also the unit in the show does not work out of the shield building or helicarrier but instead has its own base on a large plane as well as its own mandate and mission so as to avoid crossover issues
Though seeing some characters on the much lower budget show sometimes is a let down it does give them a chance to introduce a lot of ppl and lore to sort of test drive certain things before committing them to a film

Beyond The Trailer grace, in the TV show they explained that Coulson is on a special level in the company called level 6 or seven, I'm not sure, but the point is they may be one company but they are divided by levels. events like the winter soldier and captain America may be above level 6's pay grade. Coulson's team in "agents of shield" deal with major problems but mainly behind the scene things.

The line 'how do we know who the bad guys are?' could have been a concept for an entire cap movie because he comes from a time when it was very obvious who our enemies were but now our enemies are very ambiguous. It is for this reason that i feel that line was completely sloppy and out off place.
