  • In this episode of The Fika Sessions, host Petter Mårtensson sits down with Ólafur Waage, senior programmer at Massive Entertainment, to discuss programming and how to get started with it.
In the games industry, there are not only game developers - there is also a support structure to make sure that the games end up in your hands. Ólafur will not only give you an opportunity to learn about programming and his journey to the industry, but also give you insights into what this aspect of the games industry looks like.
Also, what does that tasty, oblong fika bread taste like?

This is an absolutely fantastic interview, especially after 27:35 min.
As a Junior CS student who wants to be 3D programmer, I really enjoyed your interview and I hope that I can work someday in Massive.
    Have a nice day.

You are the guy from Ngon! :D
It's amazing to show someone that doesn't work directly with the game engine but at the same time is a developer and is very important to create and maintain a game. I enjoyed it quite a lot.

@@olafurw it was cool! When I watched the second season of Code{}School, I thought that you worked inside the SnowDrop or something like that. It was cool listening to you talking about Uplay and the download system xD

I just learned and actually understood more about programming and development from a 40 minute video than I have in 39 years of life. Those "silly examples" made an approach to the subject make so much more sense. Thank you

PLEASE READ THIS - this is every fans dream
This game would be amazing if it got inspiration from the game Destiny, i know Destiny's not that great, but just imagine if it was similar in a Star Wars universe... An open world/universe third person game definitely based in the clone wars time because it would allow us to create our own Jedi since there were thousands of jedi, choose the human or alien race of our jedi and their scars and hairstyles and face so on. And like the Destiny home base place it could be the Jedi Temple on the main planet Coruscant where we can meet other players and their custom jedis and we can upgrade our ship and buy new jedi armour and robes, or CUSTOMISE OUR LIGHTSABER. maybe even catch Baby Yoda/Grogu training with younglings. We could also be able to receive jedi missions to go on from Yoda, Mace Windu and maybe even Qui Gon Jin at the temple and they would send us off for a battle in geonosis or fellusia etc, with our own clone squadron where we could team up with fellow jedis. And imagine we had our own little custom R2 or BB8 following us around on missions. There could also be so much inspiration from Fallen Order, Battlefront, and the new Lego Star Wars
This could even add so much easter eggs and references to the films and maybe even break off points for future films. But i know this would be crazy hard to make but i believe it would be the best game ever created.
