Hey dude! Just wanna say thank you for all these tuts and keep going! :) Going through your old tutorials and learning a lot from them as a starting game dev so I just wanted to say thanks and give encouragement man! Thanks for doing this and all the value you continue to give, big ups bro! :)
Thank you SO MUCH for this actually comprehensive tutorial. Too many Unreal tutorials don't explain why they do what the do, so thank you very much.
as long as i can remember i searched for such a video and learned it via very rough videos.
Its great this video exists
I'm glad that I could help!
Yeah, most videos just show you what to do, then you repeat everything without learning anything. This tutorial is excelent!
Thank you
Love these materials. So concise.
Great tutorial, thanks for clear teaching and not too fast for a beginner.
I had been looking to do this for a while and most tutorials where annoyingly long. Often without explaining how to do it. Or didnt work for UE5. This did work :D
This is a very nice and easy tutorial. I'vee seen plenty of them and this kicks ass! Good work!
My need to paint my landscape in Unreal project brought me here.
Thank you and have a great day.
Super great video makes excited to learn more and get started! Love the "stay organized" motto !!
Thank you i have been looking for a while
thank you...so clear, wait for the next tutorial....
WOW, you are really the voice behind Virtus tutors? Thank you for the tutorials man!
Very good tutorial💪🏾 perfect for what I’m doing
Thank you so much, very good breakdown on everything!
Thanks, man! Works well!
Very easy to understand and all steps are described.
Super helpful, thanks!
Thank you so much for this video!
this helped me a lot!!
the texture scaling saved me, i was about to give up. thanks!
Thank you, I finally got it!
Thank you. Youve been my first Stop in my new horrorgame
Great tutorial! Thanks :)
Really helpfull tutorial. Thanks!
one of the best video I'v ever seen. many thanks bro
Tutorial corto, muy claro y muy bien explicado. Gracias hermano
This tutorial was just awesome. Thank you!
I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
@@VirtusEdu Thanks a lot. I am fairly new to unreal and you just saved me from making kms of static mesh cubes as ground. Drastic increase in performance since I then.
Thank you so much very helpful
Amazing Dude ! thanks for this :)
Excellent video
Thanks so much!!
My landscape still black after apply info matterial. Please help
Wow! Very interesting video 😊
Thanks! but please tell us how to make displacement and bump for landscape materials with lots of layers!
You are real hero bro keep going
thank you brother this video is amazing !!! !!
great job bro
Hey! I'm a bit stuck for some reason my brush paints by square rather than everything on the surface ? Please someone help its super frustrating :(
Having same
Thank you for the helpful video
Solid tutorial
Easy way to explain thank your for you effort you made everything simple to be honest in the beginning I found it difficult and complicated 😅👍
THANKS : D
Thank you bro
(Timestamps 6:32) The textures that I made doesn't show up in the target layers section. Therefore, I couldn't select the material to paint. What can I do in this case? Have been looking through several tutorials and always get stuck here. Any help would be appreciated : )
did u find it?
5:44 Here is how you do it
@@LinucNerd bro... that's what he is talking about, because he has the same problem I do in regards to 6:19 that there are no Layers popping up to the side
This is how you do a tutorial found a 15 part tutorial series that showed how to do this!
really great
is it just textures
or can I duplicate the layer blend to make separate depth for each?
Hey man! your videos are super instructive very good and clear.
I was wondering though. Would you maybe know a fix or a way to avoid a lot of shader compiling.
Can't seem to find a video related to that.
You just saved my life
How do you smooth out smaller brushes. on one of my projects i had no problem making a map with smooth lines and turns and curves but on every other project when i curve the paint snaps to the grid and i get this painfully obvious jagged edge on everything i paint onto the landscape
Do you know how you would (if possible) paint a new material onto a pre made landscape that was imported as a pre made map? I'm trying to add dirt roads/paths but can't seem to figure it out.
Watch this tutorial it will probably help czcams.com/video/8WIWuybAKj4/video.html
Thx ! :)
So I have tiled landscape and I have sloped based auto layered material. After applying my material to the tiled landscape, I don't see the layer weightmaps in the landscape paint mode. Do I have to use landmass for that? Any alternative way to get the layer weighmaps working in ue4.26 for tiled landscape?
You are proof that not all heroes wear capes. Thank you SO much!
how do i reduce transparency according to the depth in the water? very transparent surface, the deeper the less transparent, thank you very much.
Thanks :D
Is there any way i can implement my textures along with the images
hey i just want to ask.. could i use a material to paint on material ? like rather than using texture because materials are way more detailed and so on.
I think that's where plugging in the roughness and all of that will come in handy but It seems he didn't make a video on it, u could try material blending using quixel bridge to achieve that
Thank you so much!!!!
How would I be able to make a material instance into a texture, it wont let me put one of the sphere textures into my selection
ah nvm, :D
Is there a fifth episode after this? I really like your tutorial!!!
eh? It's UnReal Engine 4, not part 4...
Lets go a tutorial on landscaping!
Excellent. Adding the 'if doesnt happen' or 'if this goes wrong' tips really makes your tutorials better than others.
Thank you for this! Could you make a video on how to make custom textures in case we want to make a landscape with a theme other than nature? I would really appreciate it!
Thanks
Amazing :)
Nice!
Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your so helpful! thank you so much for this video. I know no one will see this but. I still think i ended up doing it wrong or something went wrong with my computer. because it says server unavailable. and the textures wont transfer onto, my game.
thanks
Does this work with transparent textures as well? For instance, a texture of branches lying on the ground, but everything around them is transparent? What about if there is any transparent gradients, like a semi-transparent foggy texture? Would love a reply on this, no matter how long in the future this gets.
There is a tool to do specific roads?
Could you make a video about auto landscape materials
Hi, I have added lets say 2 textures one for rock and one for sand. Lets say I want to add another for grass. I couldnt do it. I added a new texture to material but it doesnt appear in my landscape mode. I only see the original two layers.
I'm painting my small level.. and getting a problem.. it's a bit boxy.. i mean it looks like the weight map resolution is too low..
Hey, so I've followed countless tutorials on this subject, and I think I've broken my unreal engine, in every tutorial like this and this one, when you go finish making the materials and go to apply them to the brush under the landscapes tab, I don't have the tab, or the details tab at all, I'm using unreal 4.7 I think (I'm not at my pc rn to check.) It's really annoying cos I can do everything except have the same tab as everyone else. To sum it up, I dint have the landscapes tab that you and everyone use to apply the materials to the brushes. Do you know how I can find this? Great video anyway👍
Maybe I am little late but try editor preference-> check legacy UI ON.
If still not come then time to update
how do u add water?
Hey, I have got one question. Even though I got a material equipped in my landscape settings on the right, no layers are showing up in the landscape mode on the left
I couldnt find any solution
@@BenKoper I figured it out. Some materials, for example materials from quixel megascans are material instances and dont just show up there.
@@BenKoper unreal is so garbage. endless problems like this...
0:28 i didn't even flinch. i swear!
It doesn't paint the second texture I wish to use? I can click fill layer and it changes everything to the other texture, but it doesn't let me paint it?
Why do all my textures in the landscape material reset after sculpting and re-building the scene? They're all just blank and say 'none'. Only when I save the level do I see my paints on the landscape. Cannot stand this engine, every time I want to learn something I run into issues.
Same bug on forums that nobody solved - forums.unrealengine.com/development-discussion/content-creation/1778984-i-can-t-see-painted-landscape-material-until-i-save-the-level
Thanks for Tutorial, but my texture is too big, and the mapping scale is set to 0 in the landscspeCoords?? So How can I reduce my texture size??
Thanks
I cant to the details pannel and i dont know why
Where you learn ue ...??
This channel here! This video is UE, but Virtus has many other great tutorials and series
Dumb question probably, but its been driving me crazy. I been trying to paint foliage on my landscape for two days, it does paint but a lot of the grass is tight together and random spot I go over will not paint, it leaves a circle with no grass and it will not fill in, please help :)) also how can I change that the grass paints tight together my density is 0 but is still to far apart.
thank you :)
God Bless you and stay safe :)
Very useful, but how can u avoid repeated textures? Like randomizing the UV's rotation or something like that
You can use multiple textures with different UVs, that's one quick way to avoid repeated textures.
You can also add foliage and other assets to break up your landscape to make the repetition less noticeable.
@@VirtusEdu Yeah, that's a good solution, I want to do a beach but the textures are looking so weird cuz they are all repeated, but yh, I can try to do some different elevations at the landscape to make some illusion of different textures as well, thank u!
When I add a texture to the TextureSample and plug the RGB into my layer blend, the textures don't change on the preview (the ball is still black, no texture show at all). Definitely set the preview to 0.5, followed the tutorial exactly as you did it so I don't know why it's not working...
Same did you get a fix?
One who has settings instead of Details in right side of UI as he does go to Window in upper left corner and select Details > Details1
Goat
Can you make a video about a automatic landscape material
Stay tuned!
I've been trying to do this for months and every time I try it I always get this "This layer has no layer info assigned yet. You must create or assign a layer info before you can paint this layer." and it doesn't work
Where the layers are on the left, you need to click on the plus sign to the right of them and click on the button where "Normal" is written in brackets
Hiya! I have some issue in regards to creating the Material, and connecting the texture to the landscapelayerblend, it goes black on the preview, but when I connect the texture straight to base color, the preview was ok. I don't know what is the problem. I am pretty sure I followed your tutorial well. But I don't know what's causing this issue. Anyone can help me?
I'm having the exact same issue and I've been scouring the internet for a solution but so far I haven't been able to make it work :/ I so I feel ya.
@@jasonkinsley2823 I've done the same, and found no fix for this. :/ I even tried to ignored it, maybe it's just a bug or something. I apply the texture to the landscape and try if I can paint it, but the layer doesn't show. I will let you know here if I find a fix for this. But I do hope that someone is able to help us. 🤞
@@jasonkinsley2823 Hello! Just want to let you know that my problem got fixed miraculously! Not sure how it happened, but try to restart your PC could be the problem. I did restart my PC yesterday, hoping that will fix, but it didn't! But this morning, I open my pc, open unreal engine 5, try the same process from the tutorial, and it was fixed. Although the preview is still black.
Try to keep on moving, finish the LandscapeLayerBlend, apply it to the landscape Material in outliner Tab
Open landscape Mode and see if the Material that you created will appear in the layer section of Paint. Because mine appeared even though the Material preview is black. But I can see the 3 layer that I created from the Material graph which is the "Grass, Rock and Mud."
Let me know if it fixed for you
Edit: I just want to let you know that the material preview is bug when it comes to LandscapeLayerBlend. That's why we can't see the texture at all.
DevSquad, if the games that you, Virtus did, do not work for the current versions, such as 4.25, 4.26, anyway, any one, will you change the game to the current versions?
Are you talking about the tutorials or EmberVein?
Tutorials: most will be fine with all the new versions save the odd changes (reason for the newer tutorials he’s doing now)
EmberVein: we have updated to a newer engine version!
What about PBR?
спасибо большое
Please make a video about Auto Materials
I plan on it!
I don't understand... so for your map you only can use one landscape material? What If I wanted to make part of my map snowy, another part a swamp, another part the desert. Am I unable to do that? I don't want my landscape boring and bland. I can't seem to find any tutorial explaining how to use different scenes. Great video by the way though :)
The Landscape Layer system in Unreal Engine 4 allows you to create different layers of terrain, each with its own material. This means that you can have different areas of your map with different materials, such as snow, swamp, or desert. To use the Landscape Layer system, you first need to create a new landscape in Unreal Engine. Once you have created a landscape, you can add layers to it by clicking on the "Add Layer" button in the Landscape Editor. You can then select a material for each layer.
I did everything you did, but when we got to the paint part, no layers were showing on the selected landscape. I verified the material was assigned to it, it was, but still nothing. Been searching and searching trying to figure out what's wrong. ugggggh
same problem here
@@WhosGu7aa I eventually did a cleanup and it fixed the problem. Reinstall.
CANT I PAINT WITH A STARTER MATERIAL??
When I try this in UE5, nothing paints :(
So I saved the rock and grass but it doesn’t show up
What’s up with the thumbnail image? Did I miss that part of the tutorial?
is this still going to be relevant with unreal engine 5?
