Volvo's plan to be 100% #electric by 2030 may work out just great for them. However their current #EV selection is not competitive with high prices and meager specifications. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
The End of Volvo in the USA when they go full electric
Electric is the future
@@freddybell8328 the Beyond future like in 50 years from now when they can charge a car as fast as a gas car
@@orlandovelastegui1391I will not switch to gasoline until a gas car can automatically refuel in my parking space over night. It’s such an insane idea to having to go somewhere else just to refuel 😂
@@geraldh.8047 I don’t give a fuck what you aren’t going to switch to.!!! 95% percent of Americans are not going to switch their gas cars to Electric ⚡️ vehicles.!!!
Volvo has ruined their combustion lineup and their EVs aren't selling. This is awkward.
Because their ICE cars are pretty unreliable and very expensive to repair. Their BEV are uninspiring too. They literally can't give them away and the Polestar is junk.
@@alexnutcasio936 Yeah, the brand seems kinda dead. Chinese are definitely doing great, ruining every western brand they bought.
Volvo is better than ever. the future looks bright!

I bought a 2017 volvo xc90 and that truck was a nightmare, kept it for 4 years and decided to get rid of it, bought a 2024 kia ev6 and couldn't be happier
I think it's safe to assume that any future all EV lineup date should be taken with a grain of salt. If hybrids keep dominating the market expect a pivot of EVs and hybrids from most of the non-all electric car brands by whatever previous date was set. Nothing is written in stone.
Not in Europe, we are forced in EV'S by left wing politicians in Brussels
Who knew predicting the future is hard.😂 Really it's just the goverment's fault for forcing this.
I have a V60 Polestar PHEV on order and picking up at the factory in Sweden this August. When talking to the dealer here in the US - He said PHEVs make up about 50% of his sales. EVs just don't work for everyone.... yet.
XC40 Recharge in Canada is 1000/month lease. Most companies up here wildly over charge for their leases for EVs.
EVs have greater depreciation than ICEVs.
Phev is Defently the way to go, talk to people that own them. So far I haven’t talked to anyone that doesn’t love them, at least a Toyota or Lexus. I now have my 2nd Chevy volt phev and so far no problems, and absolutely love it.
hybrids are garbage technology. no thanks.
I have an XC90 T8. Love it. Perfect for our needs.
Re. the Prius Prime drivetrain not being more available, I really wonder when the RAV4 Prime is going to finally get its long awaited refresh. That'll be the new benchmark by which all compact SUV PHEVs are measured, in my opinion
what changed? did they run out of EV tax credits?
Btw, Marin is pronounced Mer-IN. I used to live near San Francisco and Marin is the county directly across the Golden Gate Bridge.
My wife put a deposit on an EX30 before this last December; the dealer was supposed to have a demo in March so we could at least see one; it's now May... still waiting.....!
In Puerto Rico, EV and Plug-In Hybrid don't pay taxes. So compared to ICE car, they are way more affordable. However, Volvo in Puerto Rico are so dumb that instead of leaving it at MSRP they jack up the price by 10k or more. For example, they want to sell the XC40 EV at 69k.
🫠
Are you allowed to buy in the states and have it shipped to PR.
@@Moondoggy1941 yes
I ordered an EX30 Twin Motor Performance in the Ultra trim here in the UK. Worked out cheaper than the base RWD Model 3 and came better spec’d.
Better quality too, even though it's a Chinese car.
I haven't owned an EV as of yet at least. But I for one don't care how much HP they have as long as they can get up to highway speeds in 10 sec or less, give or take. They should mainly be made to get maximum range IMO.
Where I struggle is where does Volvo ev and polestar differ?
Great question. Polestar is supposed to be a “luxury” brand of Volvo, but Volvo itself it so expensive.
Polestar is a performance brand, Volvo is a family car.
@@mrgurulittle7000 that is exactly my thought. A Volvo XC 40 electric starts at £44602 and the Polestar 2 starts at £44950 (excluding the £1k off summer sale and free £4k pro pack Polestar have on offer). The prices are so similar it is like having a VW and an Audi at the same price.
@@XLoaferY I remember the days that Polestar were performance variants of Volvos. My question is around the Polestar 2 when it starts just under £45k and the XC 40 electric is just under £45k starting too.
Polestar is much sportier and less practical.
Might as well just do a 7 seater wagon
My local Infiniti dealer that recently changed over to becoming Volvo is just finishing up with their renovations… great 🤦♂️
It’s funny because Infiniti sells more in the US than Volvo even though Infiniti has a smaller lineup. What was that dealer thinking?
1:16 The new dual motor Polestar is the old technology the RWD version is the new technology lease the RWD version. That is why they are cough cough doing you a favor and giving you a free upgrade on the dual motor model.
All this ev talk and no where insight do I see chargers in rural America being installed
Polestar 2 is an AMAZING deal with Costco rebate
💯
If Volvo thinks that they’ll be all electric by 2030, they’re crazy! They have the highest EV percentage of the legacy automakers and they’ll be even closer by 2030, but the domino will inevitably fall again! They’ll be walking back that all-electric strategy by 2030 really soon like the others.
The problem is, Volvo’s all electric bet has made them leave around their ICE/PHEV cars around too long. XC90 has been around since 2015, XC60 since 2017, etc. They’ll have to develop new ICE/PHEV models to keep up or their products (which admittedly have been aging like fine wine) will be uncompetitive.
But they have aged very well
@@chezzyperson3339Right, which is why I mentioned how great they’ve aged but in order to keep up with the much more new and modern offerings, they must get new products to the market.
I'm more worried about Polestar than Volvo.
💯
Polestar should be OK. If anything, they can always be rolled back into Volvo as a division of Volvo. But I don't think that'll happen. They sell far more vehicles than Lotus and Lotus isn't going anywhere. Polestar is not meant to be a volume brand.
Really curious what Volvo’s outlook is considering Geely owns 80% of them, maybe long term they give up on the US market
No, their foolish CEO will eventually walk back their all-electric 2030 strategy and they’ll be awarded by shareholder.
Geely actually is still developing new engines with Renault that they plan on sourcing into the 2030s, I have no idea why Volvo is still pushing this obviously stupid strategy. If their all electric strategy included PHEVs, then I’d maybe think they’ll be able to pull it off but I’m not sure at all.
I think Volvo is going bust in US and elsewhere. Junk.
@@limitedreach4446 The current CEO did not come up with this strategy. The previous one did and this CEO is continuing with it. Volvo came up with this decision years ago and I don't think it's the right one. But, we'll see what happens. They will keep the current models going but say they will offer not new PHEVs or hybrids, just BEVs.
Getting my EX30 Ultra Twin around December!
They're hoping they're a small enough company to be BEV only. I don't know. For now, they'll keep their current cars PHEV but those cars are old designs. When you put the EX90 and EX30 next to them, they show their age. They'll show their age in how they drive as well. Volvo was too gung-ho on being EV only.
The EX30 is selling well but maybe the Ex60 will sell well enough in North America to have it have decent market share in the market. It won't be out for a few years though and the EX30 is very small for North America. The Polestar 4 may end up selling well in North America.
Not surprised Volvo is not selling many EV's. The ones they have out are not very good. Wait until the EX30 comes out and I sure that will sell well at that price.
volvo Owned by Chinese capital holding company geely holding, and volvo has plant in SC ,so maybe they survive the tax
Volvo watch won’t do all electric by 2030.From what I heard, they’re already back tracking on it in the last 3-6 months. My buddy just picked up an S60 T8 recharge ultimate yesterday. Really nice.
HEY
I loved volvos when they had boxy designs. Now they look like any bland car on the road
Even under the Ford era was still cool.
Volvo's sells extremly well in Europe.....in the Netherlands, bestseller same in Scandinavia. Europe will go all electric, and we are forced in EV'S. Volvo, with the Chinese parent Geely, is almost fully electric.... . So don't worry, they will succeed.
Toyota has go full electric asap in Europe, sales are slipping in Northern Europe😢
But Toyota sales are growing in the rest of the world to more than make up for any lost sales in Europe. Toyota doesn’t need to worry about overall sales in the US their fuel efficient hybrids are selling as fast as they can build them. Toyota’s problem is production capacity not sales.
@@matthewhuszarik4173 true, but that can change like we see now in Europe...they need more EV'S...like Hyundai and Kia....very succesful with their hybrids as well as EV'S.
@@avdp9095 I don’t expect it to change for some time. Many BEV owners were severely burned when they invested in a BEV. Model Y were selling for upwards of $70k can now be had for a little over $40k. So the people in the last couple years lost $30k almost instantly. Also the number of almost new BEVs but out of warranty that have been scrapped because of a minor accidents or battery failure is getting very alarming.
European unit sales of Toyota and Lexus grew 3 years in row. It was up 9% in 2023, and reached 1.17 million units. So if Toyota is selling less in Northern Europe, they must be making sales in other regions within Europe. The reality is Toyota has been struggling to cope with more demand than it can manufacture for a couple of years. The demand is so strong and inventory is so low, the waiting period for some models in US, Canada, Australia can reach months.
@@yo2trader539 in Europe we have enough supply...
Are you joking? They are not Swedish, they are very much Chinese. No matter if they do maintain a small office in Sweden.
My recent v60 was built in Sweden. Also a factory in Belgium. Owned by Chinese holding, that is correct.
How does that make the company not Chinese?
@@kevinbarry71 because the European manufactured cars follow EU régulations. As apposed to cars manufactured outside Europe. Big difference if you understand fully what that means….
That doesn't make any sense. Do you mean like Volkswagens clean diesels?
@@kevinbarry71 They don't own a "small office" in Sweden. Sweden is where the company is headquartered and where they get their marching orders. Jim Rowen, CEO of Volvo cars, is not Chinese or chosen by Geely. Where are you getting your information because wherever it is, it is poor information. Volvo is very much a Swedish company, not a Chinese one. Just because Volvo has a Chinese parent company doesn't mean that most of their vehicles are being engineered, designed, or directed by its parent company. If you think that, you need to do research and not just state what you think you know, but learn the relationship between Geely Holding and Volvo.
Reports on the EX90 are coming out now and journalist are going to Sweden, on Volvos proving grounds to ride with Volvo reps driving the cars. Volvo's crash facilities are in Sweden and so much more.
I just reviewed the 2024 polestar 2 actually, 406 miles of range is impressive
Yikes

Volvo's are overpriced. Straight up, its as simple as that lol.
its a lxuury car brand so is lexus is overpriced
@@Quinton0520 yeah but Lexus arguably, more times than not, delivers with a way better, more reliable product lol. Just my opinion, though!

@@Quinton0520 can’t argue with that haha 😂
The tariffs will bite Volvo! They need to diversify their parts sourcing away from China for EU/NA markets. But that takes away their price advantage from sourcing from China. They may be like VW for a while, suffering from very tight/low margins.
Chinese car now, one of the facts i dont buy one
That's incorrect. They're not Chinese cars. They're Swedish cars. Some of the financing comes from their parent company but Volvo's headquarters hasn't been moved from Sweden, the personnel of teams working on the cars are in Sweden, the directors and executives are in Sweden and so forth.
Yes Benjamin, but quality standard and a lot of materials are Chinese.....@@benjaminsmith2287
@@benjaminsmith2287no, it’s owned and engineered by the Chinese. Most are made in China. Volvo is owned by Gheely. Their goose is cooked. In addition, they can barely give away their BEVs. Total junk.
Chinese cars.
Isn’t Jeep then? If using same metrics
Who cares it’s a Chinese company?
Volvo can’t sell their BEVs and the XC series are barely selling. No one wants a Chinese brand.
Chinese car no thanks
Volvo was dead in the water after Geely took over. They lost their Swedish soul and the price is RIDICULOUS for a Chinese built car. Not to mention how they scrape the bottom in reliability every year too. I used to like Volvo, especially the V50.
they increased sales. The car is built in Europe/US/China depending on market.
Well, that anti EV propaganda is working, eh…
Honestly until this video I didn’t know Volvo was still in business.
Live in a cave?
These new thumbnails are so horrible. good god
Just like MG, Volvo is now a Chinese Manufacturer run by the Chinese state with an design office and production in Sweden and Europe.
Volvo is nothing like MG. That's incorrect.
