What if the Franco-German Union Formed in 1950?

- A possible Union of France and West Germany could help start World War Three, which is a scenario I explored. A union between the two countries was proposed by the Germans, but France declined. If they had united successfully, how would the Soviet Union react? Let’s find out!
Both France and Germany would benefit from this union, but they had different motivations behind them calling for a union.
The Union was proposed in 1950 by the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, but why did he want to give up German autonomy and unite with France? His goal was to receive full rights for the still occupied West German state, as he wanted West Germany to be equal to France, Britain, and Italy. A Franco-German union would benefit West Germany, as it would also help them better protect themselves from the Soviet Union.

Considering how soon that predicted "3rd world war" would happen after ww2, i can very well imagine that either west or east Germany might push for a restoration of Weimar borders, considering the political climate in the decades after ww2.
This will for sure be a really tense situation
A "fun" (?) Fact:
After WW2 most German parties still opted for those boarders. It was only until Chancellor Willy Brandt (and also not without big controversy) that the federal Republic of Germany acknowledged the German boarder ending at the river Oder.
It's so fascinating for me seeing raley posters depicting those boarders saying "The entire Germany it shall be" because nowadays that's just a ridiculous thought. We started the most devastating conflict in history and payed by losing this land. It's a weird thought how deep in denial people were back then.

@@augth It wasn't like the Nazis were a little club noone new about and they just started a war we lost. The entire Nation was involved. The Nazis were elected after all. It was just war like any other that we lost like any other, just with the difference that our ancestors committed one of (if not the single) most disgusting crimes in human history. Denying all of that and claiming the lost land back is stubbornness only Germans are capable of.
@@derdude6214 There is an interesting saying, considering Nazis and other extremist groups like that: You need two parts of a nation to enable those groups to power, one half that supports them without question and the second half that looks the other way.

This was a fun idea for a scenario. Another would be, if the Celtic portions of the Spain and France joined the Irish and Celtic portions of England like Cornwall, Wales, and Scotland.
Those celtic portions are really only noticable today because of language minorities like bretannic, basque, welsh, riish and scottish (aka gaelic). It is hard to call it "portions", when the biggest of those minorities is spoken by just a couple hundret thousand irish, and the other languages are going the same sad route of manx 50 years ago right now...
There is no Celtic portions in Spain
Galicians are a Latin people.
They have Celtic blood...but so does much of Northwestern/Centrewestern Iberia, where Celts and Celt-Iberians lived
We have many heritages, Celtic, Germanic, Iberic, Arabic, but the foundation of our cultures is all Latin.
@@miguelpadeiro762 If we would be very honest, there is about 0 celtic blood left anywhere on continental Europ. The celts here left (or mixed with Romans and Germanic tribes) at around 0 AD. The only people that could claim real celtic blood, are some dudes in the farthest corners in the highlands of Scotland.

If you're English, there's a big fat change you have some celtic blood in you, not from Wales or Scotland, just from the Britons who after a long time under Saxon rule assimilated into their society
As for continental Europe, Britanny is highly Celtic, even if culturally it's being assimilated by French
@@miguelpadeiro762 Assimilated would be the right word, but really, most of Britains established tribes after 0 AD have continental heritage. The creation myth of island celts has its origins in the time clets fled from Gaul to Ireland between 400 and 600 AD.
At that time, Celts havent been a thing in central and southwest europe for over 400 years and todays england was already a broad mix of romans, angles and celts. the welsh tribes have been in decline for a couple hundred years and the picts just started to emerge as a central tribe in scotland. The heritage of almost all island clets is really a continental one as of today.
Claiming celtic cultural heritage would be far more accurate and honest than claiming actual celtic blood, as I explained before.
Here's an interesting scenario and this can be used in multiple videos what if Queen Elizabeth the first actually got married because she had a lot of people wanting to marry her which would have caused a lot of unions
The Saar Referendum wasn't whether it wanted to become part of Germany, and France didn't want to keep it.
They wanted to turn the Saarland into a joint European territority (Saarstatut), and voters rejected that!

This makes no sense, why would so many nations just give up their sovereignty for an unproven idea? Especially Greece, UK and Portugal who were either monarchies or dictatorships(Greece was both). Today the idea of European unity seems possible because the EU(and various European organizations) has exited for 70 years. The most realistic end to this scenario is that it ends up just like the united Arab republic(Egypt and Syria), it breaks up after like 5 years and halts the pan-european idea because it has been prooven unsuccessful.
Maybe I didn't catch this, but I think that an EU that originally formed as a stronger and a weaker state uniting should have a capitol that, once most of Europe is integrated, is either relocated to a country like Poland or rotated every few years. It would give better representation to the economically disadvantaged countries and this would matter more since the context of the formation of such a union being one strong state integrating another state into itself for protection and economic wellbeing might have more negative perceptions from the public as imperialism by another state. Brussels being the capitol of the EU doesn't have this issue, but Paris might.

I really don't know. This scenario is flawed and not meant to be taken too seriously. I really like the point you made, if I was to make part 2 that is more realistic, I would include this question
Could work similarly to the German kings after German unification, where the monarchs still keep their titles despite being under a larger federal entity.
When you finally make this scenario even if it's 10 years from now I will try to recount how many times I requested this I wanna see if I can hold a record or something

I wounder how the US would view this union of nations I for one think this would be awesome militarily because they'd all be able to fend for themselves and we'd be.able to be at full strength in a theater of war incase something in asia popped off

I don't think that the eastern country's will want ro join after the break up of the soviet union, because of the bad situation they find themselves in. It will take a while, so because the European union isn't there, eastern countries could develope an eu like Organisation involving Poland and Romania as the main powers while tschechia, Slovakia, the Baltics, Hungary and Bulgaria will join at the first, propably allying with the EUWC and forming a military alliance against Russia. This will create a more richer EUWC fuccusing on more social economy, while the EEU will propably go a more capitalistic way to modernize easily. The Elefants in the room will be Ukraine, Belarus and Moldavia, because Russia sees them as their sphere and will probably not accept integration in the eastern EU, if they alligne themselves with the western Union. If they stay more independent they probably will fight against Russia winning influence in the east slavic states. They will try to get Yugoslavia on their side and I think if they decline western direkt support, they will too try to hold that country together to make their live easier and win a powerful ally against the west and Russia.
