Sure the orcs have the newly created Mordor, but under Adar they are not really interested in world domination, so they settle down and ultimately become somewhat civilized and decent, maybe even discover toothbrushes.

Did anyone catch Halbrand's line in ep. 8 "call it a gift" when imparting Celebrimbor with knowledge about crafting with mythril? I'm no expert but suspect that's a deliberate hat tip to the canon storyline where Sauron was not disguised as a Man called Halbrand, but an Elf called Annatar, the "Lord of Gifts" who successfully deceived Celebrimbor into forging the rings of power.

      @masterexploder9668 Před 2 měsíci +2

Crafting was always associated with power in Tolkien's work. That's how all Aule's students struggled to keep on the straight path. Mairon became Sauron, Saruman also turned evil, Noldor including Feanor were tempted with power, leading to them commiting crimes like Kinslaying. Power was a corrupting influence, turning it's users greedy and malicious, meanwhile Aule was all about creating for the joy of it, freely sharing skills and fruits of his labor. Aule shaped dwarves, making them his children, though Eru needed to breath life into them, as Valar cannot create sapient beings with free will out of nothing. In a sense, dwarves are "adopted" and were prophecied to frequently butt heads with elves, which happened to often disastrous results. Tolkien does once again throw a christian reference, as when Aule is discovered, he is prepared to destroy his children, just like Abraham was ready to sacrifice Izaac in Old Testament.

Sure, lets blame it all on Galadriel and paint sauron into some ''betrayed'' boy who bore no responsibility for his actions, past and present... Sure, if someone turns your down or brings you to task for the crimes you committed (and did not answer) the only possible way is to turn evil again instead of actually trying to EARN redemption... Of course, he was ''forced'' to become a power-hungry mass murderer as he had no mind of his own and Galadriel imposed her will on himself or he was a butthurt incel or spoit brat... If he wasn't the same person anymore, he wouldn't be so quick to return to his old way. This trend to justify villains is getting old now, it does not make you special at all.

    Clues hes sauron:
Qoute about binding his very being
The "true king" of the south lands, which will become mordor soon. Start of episode Flashback in episode 7 emphasised this
Has an odd interest in smithing, something that sauron obviously has need of so perhaps as halbrand he's scouting out the best smiths in middle earth without raising suspicion.
Has an intense unknown hatred for Adar, who claims to have betrayed and "killed" sauron
Admits he has done evil deeds in the past
Stabbed with a lance and badly hurt now somehow totally fine once hes in the same room as Celebrimbor.
    Emphasis on "call it.....a gift"
Galadriel suddenly suspicious of him despite being friends with him up till now
Ominous vibe from him that tells me that he is 1000% sauron
Wanting to make rings with celebrimbor

Or maybe the elves just make more rings themselves but I don't know how the show will explain the 3 rings being different from the others without including Sauron being present for that. Unless it's a throw away line that it happened off screen episode 8 when halbrand was there. But the show seemed to explicitly imply that the 3 rings were the first of the rings made. i wouldnt say im routing for sauron i just wanna know the darksides story more and how he created his servants of evil. halbrand is 100% the greatest actor is this show. i think the actor knows how to perfom and how to do his role. im not gunna put hate on tis show all together dispite the story being cheap and uncared, im gunna give it its chances

Me commenting on this particular thing when I could go into many different things is really not commenting on anything. And I haven't joined the bandwagon. I haven't said anything about this show's writing that hasn't been already said by someone else. I am merely agreeing with them.

The most important points I think this video missed is:
    1. His claim to be King - no honourable King just says “Yeah, I’m King”.
    2. His familiar look to Aragorn, whom we know he is not an ancestor of - he is appearing to look like the “True King” - further deception (shapeshifting).

She sides with him, eventually becoming embittered with how the Valar threw her brother and husband into the meat grinder in a war they had nothing to do with. Eventually Elrond manages to help save her, likely using the power of the rings. Thus adding more aignificance to her renouncing the ring when Frodo offered it. I could see myself digging that.

Tbf, Halbrand being stronger than Numenoreans would make sense if he's a king. Middle men like the Rohirrim were capable of feats of strength that surpassed Numenoreans. Like I doubt the average Numenorean could kill a man in one punch like Helm or slay a dragon like Fram.
