This is basic arabic, the end of a sentence is going to be a sukun, i.e no harakah
For example, in the adhan, you will hear :
أشهد ان محمداً رسول الله
Ash-hadu anna MuhammadAN rasulullah
not
Ash-hadu anna Muhammad rasulullah (without the "an")
nor
Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullahi ("i" at the end)
Same for the quranic verse you quoted :
مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٍۢ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمًا
If you stop before "أَبَآ", you will just hear Muhammad مُحَمَّد (even though it doesn't make sense to stop the verse there but just for the point)
