Honestly, the very first Barbie taking Kelly trick or treating is one of my favorites in the whole video. I love the 90s era Barbies that are just Babs doing normal things. Sure, Barbie should dress up if she's going to a costume party, but her wearing a simple themed sweater to walk around the block is super charming. She's not a showstopper or anything, but she has a certain nostalgic appeal to me.
You summed it up perfectly. She’s always been my favorite Halloween barbie for those reasons.

Personally I'm obsessed with the halloween Kellys. Particularly the sets where she comes with her friends, and the ones where she is dressed as a pumpkin. I stan a pumpkin kelly.

I love (or loved) Halloween, and seeing dolls like Barbie in a spooky/cute costume is always a treat, most of the time at least. But my god, she sure loves dressing up as a witch, she probably buys at least 10 witch costumes every year haha.
My personal faves are Purr-fectly Halloween from 2002 and Boo-itful Halloween from 2004. 🖤

The one that was the crop top and jeans witch that reminded you of Sabrina was actually the one that stood out to me from all the playline ones/all the witches. I can't remember her name, I think they were possibly all Halloween Haunt or Halloween Wishes. Anyway, I liked that she looked very Halloween but also has like ready to wear pieces that could mix and match with the rest of her wardrobe. Also the two Kelly's were pretty darn cute.
I thought I'd seen every Halloween Barbie but I wasn't even close! I want Enchanted Halloween, her looking like a witch being burned and her thousand yard stare adds to it lmao. And Secret Spells because I am all for 'young women practicing various forms of magic'. And Moonlight Halloween because printed on lacing or not, that dress is just so me.

Do love that early cheetah Barbie and Kelly. Seems like a costume I would actually wear as an adult woman for Halloween--interesting use of clothing features, classy, easy to move in and something that wouldn't only suit a blond. Could make the collar and cuffs detachable and able to be swapped out for more everyday for the rest of the autumn, maybe a simple black silk. Too bad the second, black kitty cat doll doesn't mine what a cat is for all the potentially interesting ideas near as well. Barbie seems to be going for classic Halloween fare. I'd rather see a unicorn costume or wizardry attire replacing the witch and lovely white-clad ghosts aren't so threatening that the play line should be avoiding them, like maybe is the thought for avoiding zombies and vampires.
I've basically evolved into Ron Swanson where I have my Halloween costume, and it's always a princess. Although having said that, I'm a little surprised that Barbie never dressed as a princess for Halloween, it feels like it'd be a no-brainer!
I actually liked the first set with Barbie and Kelly trick or treating. I wish more of the dolls leaned into that instead of just throwing her into a 2013 Hot Topic dress and a witch hat and calling it a day.

I counted 19 witch costumes out of 34 dolls. That’s 56% witch. It’s 20 witches if you include the 2019 Barbie.
Your outfit would go perfectly with the g3 Draculaura gorganizer bat wings that comes with it!
Also, you need to make "make it pink and glittery" a t shirt and by that standard, do you like the Costume Ball Bella Parker witch doll?

My favorites out of the playline are mostly the ones with sleeker, more form-fitting dresses. They're so elegant and fit my idea of a Halloween aesthetic wonderfully. Plus dresses like that (especially the darker colored ones) are more out of the box for Barbie so I'm grateful for the creativity!
I think barbie kinda faces an uphill battle with halloween costumes. Barbie has been a fairy, a princess, a mermaid, and has had so many careers, including ballerina, doctor, presidential candidate, etc.
While some of these designs are incredibly low effort, it's hard to imagine what they could do that's free from overt religious conotations, public domain/free use, not too scary for the target demographic or controversal to the parents buying them, and not just a silly version of the careers and fantasy lives she's had or animal ears on a plain outfit.
Personally, i think the obvious answer is late 19th century fancy dress ball costumes but i guess the basic halloween witch costume is cheaper and more accessible and iconically halloween to the average consumer.

Somewhere in my boxes of dolls, I have the Secret Spells Kayla, just a gorgeous doll. I was just getting away from church when she came out and I remember at least one incident where the preacher had gone into a rant about how vile and evil Barbie was.
Barbie can be counted on for one thing, for certain. She is GOING to be a witch. We all have a go-to costume if we can't get inspired!
I wish I'd been able to get the Halloween Haunt 2011 doll!! I love both the reproduction dolls and the Silkstone dolls.
I'm dressing in a handmade pirate costume. Faux leather leggings, a gold blouse, a HEAVY red coat (think Disney's Captain Hook), and a corset I bought from Damsel In This Dress. A shitload of belts, sashes, and scarves, and a hat which I also made. I just need to reshape it. Granted - we have never had one solitary trick-or-treater at this house, and I have no plans. (and even if I did, I've been sick for nearly two weeks so I'd probably have to cancel) So, dressing up to stay in and watch some bad horror movies and eat a whole case of Reese's , KitKats, and Hershey bars.
I keep getting so excited when I see you in my sub box because you always deliver the goods and look stunning at the same time🤩 Gotta add alot of these barbies to my wishlist!!

8:03 I love when these videos absolutely assault me with sudden nostalgia. I still own the little cat for this Barbie but didn't remember owning her until watching this and now I swear I can recall the fabric of the dress and fuzzy cuffs.
I've watched this a couple times and always felt that the secret spells barbie looked familiar but I don't remember any of those clothing pieces. Then I realized I actually had the Christie from that line when I was little! The whole line is great but I think the blue and purple looks really pretty on Christie in particular (I might be a little biased lol)

I LOVE this video! I love all your videos, but Halloween is my favorite holiday and I was so excited to see this :). I have to say I agreed with most of your opinions. They REALLY need to get past all the witch outfits, and I hope they return to making Halloween ones. My favorite is the one at 10:01 or so. I love the look, especially with the details and color combos.

Halloween Princess Barbie and Boo-tiful Halloween Barbie are so fabulous? I really fell out of love with Barbie in the aughts but if I had seen either of these on shelves I definitely would have wanted them.
It kills me how many years in a row of witch costumes it took for Barbie to finally nail it. I'm also kind of shocked that there aren't more vampire costumes, that seems like it would be such an easy way to switch things up.
For Halloween this year my partner and I are both going out as well-dressed werewolves, and my kid has invented his own scary character inspired by some of his favorite horror games like FNAF.

the playline ghost outranks the collector ghost for me too. i think the hair is more interesting, the dress silhouette and prints/pattern is more interesting, makeup is more interesting... i think the chains on the collector's version kind of clash. like maybe a different metal type or a translucent plastic to help sell she's a see through ghost. maybe even parts of her body in see through plastic.. idk but the playline ghost eats her up

I think you underrated three of these. Burning at the stake witch Barbie is so campy, I love her! The jeans witch Barbie probably put more than a couple little girls in a gay panic - she deserves at least a Twix. And Halloween Treat Barbie needed different shades of those colors, but at least she has good tailoring - can you even imagine a gathered bust on today’s Barbies?
