- A new boat show has launched in 2022, held at the NEC in Birmingham. Boat Life Live aims to be the "pre-season" (the organisers are clearly not liveaboards!) show for posh yachties but also includes a solid inland waterways contingent. Here's my record of my day there.

Nothing better than a fantasy walk through at a lovely boat show. Like window shopping at a sport car dealership, with a couple of VW bugs thrown in to give the buyer hope. Thanks for the groovy tour Dave. Keep up the good work. Stay groovy and stay safe.
Literal LOL at “Mooring the Cut!” 😂
And yes, the models are fantastic.
The wonderful tradition of sales models continues in the UK. See the first floor model display at the national railway museum in York. Thank you for the great video.
I think I would like to give your channel an unofficial award; "CZcams channel award for humorous or at least moderately funny puns in a video title on a consistent basis."
Seriously, it must take some effort to keep coming up with these, don't stop! Great video as always.
Agreed!
It was a boat time we got a video - it looks like one hull of a fine show!
That is truly dreadful and well worth a like.🙂
Faaaaaaaaa, imagine taking a Wilderness Beaver up and down the Intercoastal. What a little beaut.
Very interesting to see all at the boat show but you David are so the man to do the best job possible at videoing any event 👍 and then when my other legend Robbie appeared at the end, couldn't of been any better finish 🤣 x
Haven't been to a boat show in ages, but I'm happy to see they're the same in the UK as on this side of the pond. Different products but the same flavor. Er, flavour.
Wow, that Hermes Speedster boat just went straight on my lottery list! Gorgeous!
Just the very best..Your coverage is knowledgeable and your perspective interesting ..plus we get to enjoy your quirky sense of humor...Loved this vlog..thank you so much!😁🌹
Thank you
Bit of a downer on lithium? Yes. The extraction of lithium needs to be improved but just take a moment to compare it to the horrendous damage to lives and the environment caused by the extraction of crude oil.
Also, lithium can be and is recycled. Diesel less so..
That wide bean engine room would make an excellent garage for a folding Bicycle and some deck chairs, and maybe a great wood store to help dry out your wood maybe, Another excellent vlog, thanks for recording again.
A great vlog David. Great for boating dreams of glory and lottery winnings with yachts based in the Bahamas. In a former life, here in Ontario, I had a client who ran the National Home Show, and I know the hours of hard work that go with putting on an event like this. Good luck to this show, and I’m sure it will be a great success for Birmingham - Birmingham? Who knew!
Great that you acknowledge other CZcamsrs and fellow boaters.
Thanks for sharing
I always enjoy the cross references to other vloggers. Somehow it makes it all the more real--actual community. I also see most of Robbie and Allan's posts, so that's a nice touch.
So much interesting stuff on offer, but alas, I'm on the other side of the planet where a canal system very nearly, but never happened.
Oh well, I can enjoy from a distance, though after watching so many episodes of Crusing the Cut (and others), I'm going to have to hop on a plane and become one of those dreaded narrowboat renters for a week--just to scratch that itch.
When other boaters yell, I'll say it was all your fault.
About sailing, a friend of mine says the problem is that the only thing you can control is the time of departure; the rest is chance.
Sounds about right!
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best
And Always look on the bright side of life
The woodwork and crafting in those old classics looks so beautiful. Thanks for another wonderful video David.
Great video I love how thought out they are! Voice over work is always on point and videography top notch!
He's not the messiah - He's a very naughty 'Buoy'
Oh, that is truly terrible!!
Thank you for sharing, another very interesting vlog🙏✝️🕊🙏
I read the designation of those twin Mercury engines as ‘moo’ for a while until I realised it’s probably more likely to be ‘300’ 😂 Unless of course, that’s the sound they make!
That's what I thought. Never heard of Moo engines..
Another great vlog David. Eye-opener on whats available with lotto money lol. Keep up the good work. Take care .....Chris
One of the best title puns yet. Coalfinger still my favourite I think.
WOW, That was a great Boat Show . Thanks for letting us look about with you.
One of the best reviews I’ve seen.
Nice to see the marine industry thriving. I’m with you at The Rose and Crown being the best stand.
I think walking around a show like that you are really living the dream !
Oh my gosh, The Beaver 🎉 hope to see you on your own one day! Not a fan of the double wide, however it is lovely if very limiting. Now if you owned the Princess, you could bus to France whenever you wanted ❤️
Thx for taking us to the show💜
I've always fancied those wide beams... just purchased a lottery ticket, wish me luck! ;) THANK YOU FOR BRINGING US ALONG! =)
Awww man! We had such a good laugh!! Let's definitely all get together again when it's a bit sunnier!! Big love! ♥️
Brilliant. Thank you for taking us with you. Would never have seen it if not for you..
What good fun! Looked like a great show. 💕😎💕😎💕
Many thanks for the mention David, it was good to meet you there, all the best Alan.
Loved the Aquaholic reference 😂 Passerelle indeed!
Fantastic. Would have loved to be there !!
I’ve never had a spontaneous purchase of a rubber dinghy 🤣Great program thank you healthy and safe travels
Really?! 🤣
Very happily mindful of your play on words "life of brine", being a diehard MPFC fanatic here (and Fawlty T's, too, Cleese is beyond the pale). Lucky us.
I sometimes wonder if you ever saw Prunella Scales with her hubby on Great Canal Journeys Episode 1 (and subsequent). Cheers.
Yes, watched that
Great video on the event! Was good to hear from the event director too. And you got to meet Rosie the dog! Amazing! 🐶
We feel like celebs appearing in this! ( 1:54 ) haha Was so lovely to chat to you! 👋🏻
Dang, forgot I had you in that clip, sorry. I'll add you to the links
@@CruisingTheCut aw no worries! We were just excited haha! 😊 thank you
Great video David, and it was lovely to bump into you at the show x
I used to work for Princess Yachts. One thing that surprised me is how much waste they create, and how easily they throw stuff away. I tried to pass this observation on, but the manager wasn't interested. Good company to work for. Excellent company to work for. But my manager was a bully so I had to leave for my own sanity.
Again, the title on the thumbnail alone is worth a like 🙂
Punny title from a Monty Python favorite. Thanks for showing us the ropes.
David, I love the eclectic mix of your recent vlogs. I would thank you for the hard work but I think attending a boat show would be more pleasure than work. In either case, thank you.
You are doing a sterling job for the canals and canal folk.
They're called water gypsies
That ultra wide "narrow boat" would fit nicely on the mainland europe canals and rivers like the Rhine or Danube, with 60 HP it could go anywhere in style...
Lottery win dreams...
:-D
Thx for taking us with you!
:-D
It was a beaut. Perfectly styled.
That looked like fun, Thanks for taking us along!
Just thinking about Nick being there as you said it. A fine fellow from Torquay as well. Like me. 😆
You are such a delightful person, love your verbal antics. Thank you for entertainment of such wonderful events. It is really enjoyable, be safe. Maranatha
Wonderful vlog. The widebeam is a dream. Family of 4 friendly. I can't believe it only has 60hp motor. Was shocked to see the ski boat. Don't know why. Glad to see all the improvements in electric propulsion. I can see the benefits of it in the canal long term. Yes you would still need generators to constantly cruise. The floating homes are very much a possibility. We have a sheltered marine on a river, for them where I live. I enjoyed this vlog, very cool to see all the different boats and accessories. See you next time. P.S. NO You can't have twin 300 on the canal, lol.
Always good to hear from you.. you brighten the world
i spy Amy and Wes from Boat time in the queue for the widebeam :)
Thanks for taking us to see a fine show with a wide range of product!
All so shiny! Great touring of what you saw, love hearing your take on things.
as ever, heartwarming to watch. :)
Great video, yes you probably would tear up the canals with those outboard engines! Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
🤤 the poshiness of the poshness of the poshy "boats" to be had was quite posh. Albeit for me, it's almost impossible to beat the charm and statelyness of a beautifully crafted wooden sailboat. A great looking show, indeed, a candyshop for the mariner!
(Please excuse the excessive use of made up words 😁)
They weren't that posh! No bridge will have to taken apart for any of them.
@@lenabreijer1311 🤣🤣 I think thats going over a few heads here.
Seriously, you make the best vlogs. Well done.
Thank you
Ah David, that was great! Really enjoyed that one. The ending was like a warm hug!
Thanks for uploading.
This is one of my favorite titles you’ve done so far!! Very creative.
Thanks for taking us to the boat show, that was fun.
Glad you enjoyed it
That wide boat you toured was amazing! Eye-popping space. I think that bath is larger than the ensuite we have! That boat would be amazing for full time living.
The wide boat is really nice, practically a flat on water! I can see myself retiring on one!! 😂
No wide load for me. Who would want to limit their available options on the canals? And the cost! Also from my experience with different size campers, there is something satisfying about Over coming limitations, and more incentive to get outside when at all possible. Thank you, interesting video👍
Great video and it was good to meet you and your fellow narrowboating friends.
I'm surprised you didn't get a shot of a floral display and declare you had found the shrubbery!
I was just thinking about you David " was hoping you were cracking through this last part of winter ok. Thank you for the new video Sir. 😊
Thanks 👍
Thank you David.
Very enjoyable tour. You brought back many found memories for me, much appreciated.
The price of that widebeam is less expensive than buying a condo where I rent my apartment. Those house barges look awesome!
2:37 I would never have imagined it’s simply the lack of space that keeps you from the rave lifestyle. 😂 9:40 Total retro Bond villain vibes. With the right suit and sunglasses you could take over the canals in that thing. 😎
Went to London show in 1990...drooled at new Prout catamaran @ 100k...2017 finally bought a 40 ft cat ! Hi from KL
Ah, back in the days when it was at Earl's Court, I suspect. I used to enjoy going there.
Great glimpse into the narrowboat universe CTC! It would be interesting to know the economic return for the participants that purchased display space. I'm struck by the growth of this narrowboat universe in the past several years, as evidenced by this show you've highlighted. Seems as though the sleepy little town all you enthusiasts grew up in there on the canals, has suddenly been discovered. Hopefully the quaintness of the beloved experience will not be diluted. We viewers are very fortunate that a consummate media pro such as you, David, is there to document the ongoing story. Cheers.
Great to hear from you again, David... It's a wonder you weren't salivating as you wandered round the exhibition !!
I don't remember him saying he never did? Maybe that is why he bought a t-towel? 🤔
Thank you. Enjoyed the video very much! Glad to see things returning to normal.
Those houseboats looked really nice. Don't know if I'd ever be able to get one, but always look on the bright side of life, right?
Thanks for the boat show tour. Haven't been to a boat show in many years. So much fun.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always good to see you David 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Birminghams perfectly placed for all those bullseye winners
Pootling is the word of the day.
Always pootling
I love a good Boat Show and this was a great on in no small part to Cruising The Cut
Hello. That half finished Beaver 23 is mine BTW. Hopefully will be complete by May and great to see it at the show. Wondered what you thought of the colour choice 😊
I loved it!
@@CruisingTheCut PS. Your previous Wilderness video was a contributory factor to me ordering it. Only question is why chair with panda on for title?
It’s a Doctor Who reference (the Tardis)
I'd love one! Will you vlog your progress?
Always a good time when CZcamsrs unite.
Once again a wonderful video! Thank you!
Thank you for the break and distraction. What a place for a rave, loved it.
A virtual Plethora Dave a virtual Plethora ! , excellent video as always.
What an absolutely smashing boat show! I wanted one of everything! So much fun to see all the different boats.
Always a pleasure to watch and listen to your videos David!
This tour of the boat show was fun, I would want that model of the houseboat, too. And you've got Aquaholic Nick down!
Fully with you on your shipchandler addiction! They exercice an attraction like the sirens on Ulysses. Never left a chandlery empty handed🤣
Great video, cheers,
Loved the nick from Aquaholic bit. Brilliant.
Pleased to see that shoutout as well. 😀
Wow! Pip Hare opened the show! She’s a Vendee Globe solo around-the-world star!
That was lovely David. really enjoyed looking at all on offer, Thank you and of course, best wishes
Thank you for that. We had the Seattle boat show a couple of weeks ago. I did not go. I would love to have another sailboat.
Alright! Liz from Earle Writes dos a cameo on your channel! Brilliant!
An excellent array of watercraft and accessories. Still - a cozy narrowboat making leisurely progress throughout the sceptered Isle is the stuff of which this colonial sailor's dreams are made of ...
The perfect tonic for a grim dank day...thank you.
That was a nice show. In the states many of the inland boat shows only have power boats and bass fishing boats. It was nice to see a much bigger range of craft. Thank you David.
Great to see you………boat shows are a lot of fun…..all fantasy
Never appreciated how much you were taking your life in your hands as a solo cruiser until I looked into doing a solo narrowboat rental. According to the rental companies, when dealing with complicated locks and randomly falling into the canal, the solo cruiser is a disaster waiting to happen. Glad to see your years of narrowboating went well.
Haha I know!!
David thinks: I can paint that bilge forest green without even removing the engine. Luxury!
