- It took a shootout to give Sweden the verdict after these two great Nordic rivals shared a 2-2 tie in regulation. Emil Bemstrom was the only player to hit the target in the shootout, ending Finland's unbeaten start on home ice at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and moving Sweden to the Group B summit after four wins in four games.

Sweden and Finland has never been closer than in these times. Great game from both teams even though we lost today. Gotta give some respect to the Finnish crowd, didnt hear a single whistle whilst playing the Swedish National Anthem. Good game, may we meet again!

I liked after the game how the finnish fan was fistbumping through the glass to all swedish coaches and then leaving the arena, the swedish coaches surprised but still gave respect back and fistbumped back. That is what i call respect towards each other. As a swedish fan i wish Finland all the best of luck rest of the tournament and hopefully we can play against each other again in the final.

Can someone explain to me what the finn was doing on the last penalty shot, because to me it just looks like he is being nonchalant and screwing around, so Im assuming Im missing something?
He was most likely trying to suprise the goalie. When you do this kind of penalty that he did, you have two options. Either you shoot a backhand like he did, or he could have faked the shot and put it back to the forehand. You dont see this kind of penalty shot that often, which is why it is a kind of suprise for the goalie. I dont think that just because he did something different that he was nonchalant. In hockey today, it is very difficult to score a penalty shot, so doing something the goalie dont expect can be a great way to score.

I've seen a few comment about this but they really need to stop saying that a penalty shootout is luck when it is literally 5 breakaways each and requires skill if anything! I for one would take a penalty shootout over 20 minutes of overtime any day and honestly I think that the teams that whine about shootouts need to just "git gud".

for me, i dont mind teams playing boring leeching dead puck hockey, i just wish the opposing teams did the pre-game video right. there are ways to humiliate this system with speed and possession, if a team wants to dictate the game without the puck, you have to find a way to dictate the game with the puck. do not dump and chase, attack the neutral zone and swing back if you don't see anything you like.
its no coincidence finland always struggles against teams that plays roughly the same: latvia, switzerland, germany and now czech (finnish coach). two defensive teams, who neither want to push the play, nullifies the game and skill. its because the entire system of sitting back, is based on profiting on the other teams mistakes.

Oh well, ggs i feel like Finland was overall better but instantly when it went to shootout i knew Finland wouldn't have any chance specially when sweden is having one of the best goalkeepers (in my opinion) and there is no shootout specialists in finish team, also we let swedish attackers get way too close to our goalie many time without blocking the line, soon Finland is going to get reinforcement from NHL when Esa Lindell and Miro Heiskanen join Finland. ggs
