As a swede, I was really worried about this game. No matter how well Sweden played previously in the tournament or how badly Finland played, Finland will always shift gears when faced against Sweden.

And Sweden only won because of wrongly judged penalty. Helenius' stick never touched Swedish player's hand, it was very clear. That judge mistake was the reason Sweden got a goal. Would they have won anyway? Possible, but we'll never know.

Oh what a match by Larmi. Know him because he plays here in Sweden. Finland produces insanely talented goalkeepers. What do you say? Sweden pushes on, but Finland stands up as well as possible. I can admit that we were lucky with the referees a few times and could easily have had 2 or 3 more sending offs. One thing must be clear. You should never count Finland out. Was I the only Swede who thought this would be tough? Also felt like Finland got into dangerous situations too. But you could also see that we had brought in more Nhl players, the boys played well and pressed Finland for long periods, but they were right and did not let themselves into such dangerous situations. Thanks for a good match Finland, could have ended any way.

Sweden had everything to prove, both being the favorites and not reaching the semis since 2018, so in period 3 I could see a difference. Especially after scoring the 1-0 goal - Sweden started playing extremely defensively and thought we could just "play off" the last 4 minutes - which we got punished for. The referee observer had watched Helenius penalty a couple of times on the video, and according to Jalonen, the video did not show a hit on the glove. @@JK-gw1yfit's more about the referee observer not really doing his job here. Sweden was the better team, they dominated for most of the match, but the refs weren't perfect. In regulation time they made some bad decisions on what to call and what not to call but those were minor errors imo. The OT call however was just wrong and in a crucial part of the game. Jalonen went to talk to the referee observer after the game about it and the observer basically said that the call was wrong but because the ref THOUGHT that he saw Helenius' stick hit the hands of the Swedish player he was right in making the call. Which is just baffling. The wrong call was justified because "the referee thought he saw a foul". hockey is a unique sport, where you can mitigate the other team and nullify the talent gap by playing a certain way. i do not understand however, why finnish fans arent frustrated.. fly a few NHLers over and lets have a proper competitive hockey game. this was only "competetive" because the score was 0-0 for so long.
