I put e85 in my car once cus my friend told me it was racing gas but forgot to mention I needed a tune. On low rpms my car was bouncing and jumping everywhere but once I got to higher rpms it drove soooo nice.
Been running E85 in my 2020 Shelby GT350 right after break in. Thousands of miles later and the car is real happy 😊 also didn't even need a tune. Advanced Fuel Dynamics makes a kit that is plug and play. No tune and I'm getting 60+ more HP. The car really comes alive with it and runs smoother with the fuel being so clean. Every 4th or 5th fill up I put 93 in just to go through a full cycle then back to that sweet sweet corn juice.
Lol literally been deciding on wether I should stay on 91 or try e85 for a month and this vid might’ve just gave me the little push I needed, thank you as always!

There is one station i know in Calgary that sells e85, its called B&G fuels, look it up:)
In Brazil we use ethanol as car fuel since 1978, first production car to use it was the Fiat 147, 1000cc engine
That’s pretty cool. How reliable are they?
@@Ohwell423 they're really good, all new cars made here are flexfuel now. At the beggining they had a lot of issues, ethanol engines needed higher compression, an extra gasoline tank for cold start and some parts had to be treated against corrosion, like carburators and fuel pumps
Actually Brazil has been using ethanol since the late 20s early 30s and that's just awesome!!! Just did a Google search to verify memory. Damn it took us this long ? Methanol sure but not Ethanol

Agreed. Worth it though.
@@Jonjims1532 beamers eat that shit up if your cars fuel system is built correctly
e85 has a stoichiometric ratio of about 9.8:1 and requires about 30-40% more fuel so yes fuel mileage will be worse than gasoline.

My problem is every time I go to the gas station for Pump E85 my car runs differently. Sometimes the E85 content at the pump is in the 60s.. 70s.. 80s.. It's completely random and It's really annoying, so my car performs WILDLY different sometimes.
This video informed me about corn juice. But, why not a video about the NX2000 and how corn juice might benefit it?
I daily e85 in a 5 speed flex fuel focus nearly 30mpg highway and 26 city.
To be fair, E85 is cheaper due to government subsidies to corn farmers and commercial ethanol producers for use a a fuel additive.
It would actually be far more expensive than non-ethanol fuel of it wasn't subsidized.
Also, since it has a tendency to trap more water in the fuel, you don't want to store it for long periods, or store a vehicle with it in the tank and lines for an extended period. This is beyond the phase separation you refer to.
And no, the water that is trapped in it doesn't provide the same benefit as water in water-methanol injection.
Keep in mind, petroleum is more heavily subsidized than alcohol fuels and electric power combined. Pull the subsidies on both and you’ll likely find both biofuels and EV vehicles cheaper to operate than gas or diesel vehicles.
@@GreenJeep1998 you also have to consider power density in that. The power density of ethanol is drastically lower, so it takes a far greater amount to produce the same amount of power - which is why people see a noticable decrease in fuel economy when running E85.
Couple that with the actual price (minus the subsidies) and you're not really seeing any savings.
Also, as stated in the video, ethanol rich fuels are more corrosive and the fuel system is going to require more specialized materials and maintenance.
When you start adding up all the extra costs associated with E85 and other ethanol rich fuels, your actual savings gets tossed out the window.
@@jameshaulenbeek5931 I’ll be honest, been running my daily on E85 for over 8 years now and haven’t had an issue, the Jeep I had prior to that saw 10% and even more in the 17 years I had it and the only fuel system rot it had was due to salt and snow being blasted by the left front tires ( had a few sets on it) to one of only 2 steel components in the fuel system. The insides were fine as were the the plastic shrink tube that held them to the stainless hard lines.
@@GreenJeep1998 that's pretty damn good, but I'd expect more fuel system damage on a weekender than a daily. Again, absorbing water and separating will take it's toll.
Personally, I'm not a fan. I'd run a water/meth setup before switching over to E85 if I was looking for power and anti-knock.
@@jameshaulenbeek5931 that XJ had been parked for some time when I replaced that line, it spent much of the last 5 years parked due to illnesses Mom had and we were caring for her instead of the XJ, sadly, after she passed we went to try and fix a rotted out brake line to rind the floor rotted out as well as inner and out rockers and signs of infestation of both the furry and moldy kinds inside it. If it hadn’t developed fuel system rot in that time, it’s likely not that big if an issue. Dad even had lawn equipment he forgot to winterize, which included e10 87 with 2stroke oil still in the table and it still started right up on the stuff.

2022 reporting- E85 is cheaper than 98 Octane here in Central Qld
Watching this video while I fill my truck with e85 and have been doing so since 2017.
E85 cheaper than 87, makes more hp in our cars 😁 (extremely large smiles)
My daily and previous daily were both ran on E-15. Average 15 cents cheaper per gallon, average loss of 1-2mpg and well worth it with how little I drive
5years ago i used to e85 in my VW Passat b5 Sedan. it runs very well, BUT... i had some starting issues in the cold winter. mixing up e85 with some gasoline like 50:50 solved it. but now the e85 fuelstation is gone :(
Didnt Henry Ford design the modle t to run off both gasoline and ethanol?

Been running straight e85 for 2yrs now and loving it (except economy). Lucky I live within 15min of 5 stations

I wish we got e85 up here in Canada
Short answer, if you have a carb yes its bad. If you're efi then it depends on a few things.
Even then, there are E85 carbs out there now, just need to make sure the pump(s) and lines are up to it.
@@GreenJeep1998 and they cost twice as much as a normal carb. Whats ya point

Can you still use water+methanol injection with an e85 system?
I use ethanol 90% of the time on my red sport now that I have a flex fuel kit.
Horrible timing for me, I just tuned for full E and now I’m hoping this video doesn’t make me regret 🤣
so you want an E34? (unloved body style😢)
I’ve been trying to get a straight up answer, can let’s say I have a 15 gallon tank, 10 gal of 91 and 5 E85. To essentially get 93. Now with that somewhat minimal mixture, can I drive that with my 91 tune?
Yes you can it wont harm anything if its a pump gas tune if you have an e85 tune never run a mixture since the timing is so much more advanced on a e85 tune you'll get detonation and cylinder misfires
I got a 22.5gl tank on my turbo JL.. What if I mix half E85 with 91 octane?
I’m literally watching this on a Monday 😂
I won't run ethanol based fuel in my lawnmower or snowblower. I just installed a flexfuel kit in my 2002 Mustang GT and it runs fine on E85.
My 86 E30 runs terrible on ethanol blend. The old Motronic can't deal with it. My Miata shockingly runs the same regardless.

seems the 30-40% extra fueling requirement should be listed in the cons section. e85 makes for a really good race fuel but generally is not worth it if the vehicle can be run on pump gasoline.

No is not. Just remember it needs to be a 50/50 blend. If you go over, you are going to have to buy pure sugar and pour 3 scoops in it. This will make the car run smooth again. 😉

No drain the tank and fill it with 91.
@@jackao321 thanks 👍
Jackson is correct, the alcohol in the e85 absorbs moisture.
So I should stop running e85 in my 2012 Silverado flex fuel, as it will corrode it faster than regular 87 octane? It saves me a $1 per gallon here in SoCaL which is YUGE when 87 is $3.50+ per gallon.
Only if you leave it in your truck undriven for months at a time
You should be fine, been running my 2012 Chrysler 200 since almost new and have 109k on it right now. Only increase in wear has been with the brakes and tires😉😁
@K Sk One thing I don’t get though, Ethanol is a solvent as well as a disinfectant, fuel and adult beverage and has been known to remove gum from gas that has been sitting in tanks and fuel line for some time, how does it gum up injectors?!
does anyone know the black rim that's behind his head on the left side
OMG, how did you know it was like noon on a Monday...
Personally, id want to put e85 in my daily driver as long is it's flexfuel, mainly because I wanna save money when regular gasoline becomes 1$ more than e85. Also I could probably make my own eathonol and run it through the system.
Will it damage a engine on a motorcycle ?
E85 and turbo cars is amazing
I hate it !
I was using 88 and then went to E85 and then my car lost power and my check engine light came on.
Yes, I have a flex fuel vehicle
I had to put in fuel injector cleaner
It helped a little.
My wife loves it ! She puts it in her Chrysler Town and Country POS
FYI: don’t buy one!
Engine has a plastic piece under the oil filter instead of metal (designed to fail)
$800 to replace when it cracks and the sliding power door mechanisms break too!
Im sorry but "kum&go" hahahahahaha
So would my 02 bmw be able to run e85??
Put E10 (10% ethanol) in our car and got sludge all the way through the engine (even on the plastic dipstick):
Seems that the ethanol oxidises and then polymerises.
Oil analysis picked up increased fuel dilution as well (up to 5 %).
As soon as the E10 was stopped the fuel dilution problem decreased back to normal levels (1-2%)... although it has yet to drop back to 0 %.
Presumably, the rings got stuck and let fuel leak into the oil?
The sludge is amazingly tenacious and flushing the engine didn't seem to help much.
N.B. Fuel dilution compromises lubrication... so wear can be expected to increase.
BTW: There's a ~6 % drop in fuel efficiency with E10 (less energy-dense):
If E85 gives you a ~30-40 % drop in fuel efficiency how does it make sense economically?
The more frequent oil changes required with E85 are another undesirable cost... especially if you drive a lot.
:-(

Back in the late 80s when I had my first car, the neighbor lady's done was visiting and asked if I used premium. I said, nope the midgrade with 10 percent ethanol cause it burns cleaner and helps the farmers. He didn't seem happy when I said that. All I did was tell Lee Raymond the truth.
Maybe you have an answer for me. My car has a motor that in every application it is used..it is flex fuel...My car, it is not.. Its the LFX V6 by Chevrolet... Would it mess up mine ? Same motor, just not flex fuel. Thanks.
Don’t use E85 if the car was not designed for it. Needs to have larger fuel lines, injectors, tuned for it. Great to have flex fuel car( pollutes less than a Prius too!)
I filled up my car with e85 because of your video. What do I do now?
Does your car use E85? If not then that’s not good
if your vehicle isn't specifically designed to use e-85 then you're going to witness the singlehanded reason that platinum prices have been driven up as high as they are as it turns the inside of certain parts to glass due to overheating (i don't remember which part it is but I remember when fixing my cousin's husband's car which experienced the problem for the specific reason that he used e-85 we knocked out a glassed sort of filter that was long tubular in shape with a grid of square holes in it which that method is illegal to do in some states making this repair even more costly for some places due to the added difficulty of the repair). e-85 stands for 85% alcohol which while yes burns at a higher rate also burns at a way higher temperature. It's not made for the majority of most everyday cars. look at what your vehicle is specifically rated to use and use that. The lower cost of ethanol over time doesn't make up for the costs of replacing parts in your engine.
