  • During a recent practice day for an On-The-Water fishing lesson on Table Rock Lake, I recorded my entire process for finding bass offshore on a new area of a lake. In this video, I explain how to divide your time on the water between graphing and fishing to give yourself the best chance at finding bass offshore. Hope you enjoy!

    How this channel doesn’t have 100,000+ subscribers is beyond me. I think it just shows more people care about baits and vlogs more than actually learning what it takes to be a consistent bass fisherman. 🤦‍♂️, another great video Jonny, keep up the great work! I’ve learned that nothing like seat time when it comes to offshore fishing. I’ve learned in my lake and most that once a good summer spot usually a good spot all summer long.

    Whenever I'm graphing with side imaging and find a brush pile or rock pile, I can't ever find them again when trying to graph directly over them. I mark a waypoint ontop of the pile and use the arrow infront of the boat on the gps to get lined up just right, but always miss. Do you have tips for that aspect?

    • @721075763
      @721075763 Před 3 lety

      Make sure your extension heading is accurate by using a Point 1 or magnetic compass and you also must assign it to the "vessel". One way to check it's accuracy is to point at a obvious piece of shore or bridge and if the screen does not show that same angle (say 90 degrees to a levee or bridge) then it is not being updated fast enough. Otherwise, you should not be having a problem, zoom in all the way and make sure your hitting that way point exactly.

    Another great video! Without our thermocline, things have been a bit mixed up on TR this summer for sure. I agree 100% that time spent graphing is much more productive than casting, casting and casting .. and not getting any results. My Garmins have become a tool as useful as a rod and reel for catching fish, for sure. I see you use the downscan a lot. Have you found the sidefinder function to be of a lot of use in this offshore 'surveying'? I just got one last fall, and honestly haven't put in much time trying to learn to use it, but I can't help but think it could be of benefit in this offshore searching. Always looking for a way to gather more information in a shorter time ... but not sure the sidefinder is going to help me a lot. Thanks for sharing. I always like the videos dealing with my 'home lake'.

    This may or may not help you. I've spent a lot of time throwing a swing head. It's a go to bait for me, especially out deep. I've found that the faster the bait is moving the more bites and better bites I got but it's hard to reel fast and keep the bait down in deep water, so I started using a 5:1:1 reel and it's the deal. You can reel it fast and still keep bottom contact. Just thought I'd share this

    How much does offshore fishing play into river? I love to use my electronics to find cover and fish offshore in our small ponds and lakes. By small I'm talking 100 acres or less for most and 6 foot max depth. I don't have much River experience and that much water seems over whelming when first looking at it. Is it worth finding those isolated offshore logs stumps etc. Seems like on low tide theyed move out to the stuff thats off the bank a little ways? Our rivers fluctuate about 2ftft on average with the tide.

    Hey Jonny, I found a long band of rocks that runs from shallow water down to a ledge of 16’. This drops off sharply to the main creek channel of about 28’. I’ve caught a half dozen 6 pounders, a 7 pound 14 ounce, and a 9 pound 2 ounce. I know that this is an area where the big girls hang out. I’ve been catching them on a 1/2 ounce War Eagle finesse football head jig in green pumpkin candy with a Berkeley Maxscent meaty chunk in the same color. I have lost so many jigs in this area, 5 yesterday alone. It’s getting rather expensive to fish this band of rock, but this is where the fish are. Any suggestions on another approach? I’ve tried a KVD 5XD in blue and chartreuse but only caught one fish. They seem to want a slow and subtle bait.

      You are correct that they moved, but it could be a new school that moved In a few hours later.
      I don't think he was fooling himself, by clearly stating he makes 10 casts and moves. In my opinion, he is pretty efficient with try to maximize his chance of landing fish.
