  • Sometimes the situation determines what furnace is best for the installation you are completing. In this situation the Goodman 80% furnace provided better airflow access and a variable speed blower motor that would help with better comfort and savings for the homeowner.
The Trane furnace would require an air box on the bottom of the furnace which would raise the furnace which would have caused an issue with installing the evaporation for the new air conditioner install. Goodman furnaces also have a tubular heat exchanger which reduces the chance of a cracked heat exchanger in the future. Goodman furnaces have awesome warranty coverage if a furnace would need a repair or service in the future.

Are you at my house. Looks very similar setup. Not so many round pipes. Ours is 1950's. aluminum box ducts. lots of low. Last hvac put in goodman 92% single stage. Or is it 2. It may have two. Or a low fan and high fan. I'll have to check. It does have the side and bottom entry cutout because of the low ceiling.

I have a Train 12 seer unit that is now 29 year old, service it annually and still works great. I purchased a Goodman for the other end of home and it took a dive from lack of quality control within 1 year. The small capillary line including the heat shrink they installed over it knowing it would chafe, was left against the larger copper line, chafed a hole in it and dumped everything. The line could have been simply pulled away from the larger line, with plenty of clearance to do so. Factory warranty would not cover 410A cost of $400. Truth be told---Goodman is Cheaper in Price and the installer makes more money. Goodman warranties do not cover labor other than replacement of their OEM components, last time I checked. Stay with the American Standard or Trane-same units.

All equipment has issues. We have had to deal with dirty flame sensors due to burning issues with Trane, inducer motors etc. Trane is much more expensive and should work better. Unfortunately we have not found this. Goodman does have a better warranty for the heat exchanger also.
