Getting investors on board MAVIN Music is good. My fear is doing it with foreign investors now that our Afrobeat is worldwide, I hope the agreement is right not the type to exploit our talented artists and deny them of their earnings. I know how dark the music industry is the US and even home here. It shouldn't be a thing that would screw our artists and every naira taken out of Nigeria? It must be something that will promote the artist and the industry not the other way round. I will say no artist in this country should sell his or her catalogue to any label for anything coz that's where the money is. Our local investors should be investing in music not trusting foreigners to do it for us otherwise we'll end up loosing what we have. I have seen a trend where our local artist are not being credited for their work in the US. My advice: look before you leap MAVIN having foreign investors may sound like a fantastic idea and news making. But beware of the type of agreement you sign my ten kobo
I agree with ALL of this. 💯
"Don't hang about, get in there!"- what a sound closing salvo from the music business guru himself- Olisa Adibua.
Local investors should build like an O2 Arena one in Abuja, Lagos, porthacourt, Kaduna, Jos etc and let's also have dance Academy, garment factories for wears for this artist
The JOBS are in the value chain - electrical, visual, and audio engineers and technicians, makeup artists, fashion designers, set designers and builders, producers, roadies, promoters, security, event organizers, caterers, marketing, etc., etc., etc.
Well it as ok for any Nigerian hearing about this acquisition to be worried... but again, I don't think Don Jazzy is foolish or has not done his but to tighten his belt. Don Jazzy is up to the task. Remember how he warned DBanj then, so he knows too well. I will wait for his official press release first.
Good for the money but having foreign companies control and curate our music is dangerous. Its like what they did to hip-hop and pushed the trashy version
Exactly
Thank you Olisa Adibua, my question is, how will the local investors invest and what will the local invest in?
They can invest in the local value chain - from event centers to promotions, electronics, visual, audio engineers and technicians makeup artists, set designers and builders, producers, roadies, security, marketing, etc., etc., etc.
I always enjoy listening to Olisa Adibua
Same here. He is a real OG
So many great minds in nigeria, but yet?
Exactly.
I don’t know why but this worried me a bit, maybe because Marvin’s has already been doing so well without external influence.
Don't let it worry you. That's how businesses grow if not Universal music can get someone to start something from scratch and then buy up all his artist thereby get him out of business as a competitor.
What Olisa says about local investors is key. Whats the purpose of building an african champion that will become owned by a majority of european and american investors ?
Dont sell your soul because of one-day fame.
This is bad for Nigeria and also Africa as a whole, afribeats is dieing frome here
Nigeria has never been good since we discover crude oil. We are just lying to ourselves. The right things that hasn't been done since 70s has eroded the country to date. For Olisa, policies will be changed if it's not working. Nigeria economic situation is different from other countries, and those textbook policies don't work here. Let's be truthful to the people.
Abeg leave Ghana out of this
Am I the only person that finds Rotus's voice very annoying?
You are the only one.
You are the only one
