    Also when you manually operate the spoiler it will go back down when you park the car. Also...keep the plastic window conditioned with zymoil plastic window specific window conditioner cleaner. They also make a resurfacing paste that can come in a kit with the conditioner wax. A cracked plastic window is a 2400 usd plus repair for the new top alone. Also, even early 97 to 99 boxster can be fitted with glass window and are pre-wired for the defrost even though porsche didn't offer the glass on the earliest ones but we're really cool and thought ahead. Most 2000 on boxster were ordered with glass.

    I have an identical 986 even down to the colour, but mine has sports exhaust and wheels and white indicators with coloured bulbs, getting rid of the fried egg look. One thing you might mention is the problems with the immobiliser and ECU sitting in a pan under the passenger seat (Right hand drive models). Any dampness that gets in there can cause serious but not immoveable problems, one of which is a quickly discharging battery. I found the solution to be, remove the electronics box and dry it out, but also connect a continuity tester (diode tester for instance) across the battery leads with the battery removed and then take out each fuse in turn to find the "Key out drain". In my case it was the wiper motor fuse (C6). Nothing wrong with the wipers so I am not sure what caused the problem, but a steady charge of the battery and drying of the seat pan and electronics has me back on the road in a few days. Thanks for post

    Also on the plastic window, every time I take the roof down, when it gets to half way I stop the operation, get out and give it the "Pork Chop", to make sure it folds neatly and avoids getting kinked and irreversibly damaged. Don't try this if you have modified it to allow the roof to be lowered whilst moving...by the way that key position is the second position. To disconnect the battery you don't need the warning lights on. An odd thing about disconnecting the battery is that, you can't close the doors because the windows are fully up and don't retract (no power). You might say close the doors first, but then your key is in the car...any ideas welcome.

    sometimes when i put my roof up the bead along side the upper side window arc will not drop in the plastic gutter. It seems to happen to more boxsters as i have seen it on other cars as well. Is there a fix by any chance?

    • @RoadandRacetv
      @RoadandRacetv  Před 8 lety

      Thanks, glad you like it. Yeah, now you mention it that has happened to me too. I usually stop closing the roof halfway, get out, place the bed correctly in the gutter and then finish closing the roof. Only happens on the drivers side though. I guess it just looses tension over time? Not looked into a long term fix as yet as I rarely take the roof down with UK weather!

Your video was very helpful as a lot of the same things apply to that Boxster and my Cayman, despite the year difference. Question for you. After the car goes into power saver mode after 7 days, how long on average do you think I would have before the battery would go flat ?? I also have an Audi A3 TDI 2004 reg, and I could leave that for weeks without any issues despite the fact it has no battery save mode.
