Platinum is still the newest Pokemon game I've played much tbh
@@themagicrat8020 what platinum isn't "still the newest pokemon game".
@@blitzgaming9561 did you just not read the entire comment haha
@@themagicrat8020 first of all don't laugh. Second of all i did read the entire comment which doesn't have that much grammar but the most important thing is that platinum is not the newest pokemon game.
@@blitzgaming9561 i said it was the newest one that i have spent much time playing. There was nothing grammatically incorrect about it. I have no idea why you think there was or how you misunderstood it and thought i didn't know newer games existed
I like how the farther in the video you go the anger he gets reliving this hell
this is part of the reason for what i subscribed for :P
150th like! :D
I kinda feel like Jrose11 is like the.. angry counterpart to Truegreen7, who's always looking for the positives in everything.
Man, a Game Grumps style crossover of these two as they race to catch 'em all in one of the generations of Pokemon would be super cool!
Poorly executed vid. That's why
True lmao! But who wouldn't be? o.o
back when I played Platinum as it was new, I spent hours, nay, DAYS in the underground, mining spheres, FARMING spheres, buying accessories with my farmed spheres, searching for traps... I had so much fun down there, even without any friends to meet and trade accessories with. Although I did have someone at the start to catch 40 flags from, so that I could remove the boulders from my base :D
Louis D Can you still to down there? Or is it online only? I know for a lot of games, a lot of the old cool online pokemon stuff no longer has working servers. Is that the case with the underground?
Alex Crowder you can still go down there however you can only play with people on the same WiFi
@@alexcrowder1673 The underground didn't use wifi in the first place, so that won't affect it. It actually works on local wireless, so you can still join others in the underground if you get together with your DS systems.
I hoped I would get to meet someone down there for so long as a kid, I enjoyed the heck out of digging and everything too! I loved working on my base but I never got the boulders cleared because I never saw another person in it (never had the chance to play with anyone who had it, and I think the online was either dead by then or I didn't realize how it really worked besides local). That said I was a geology/rock/gem nerd as a kid (used fire pokemon a lot tho lol) so I loved so much about it and especially digging into a wall to build a secret base. I remember trying to set up the perfect set of traps around my flag in case I ever ran into someone (mostly pretending lol), but having the feeling that I could have it such a quiet and half lonely vibe that was perfect for treasure hunting. I totally need to find my ds charger now so I can play again lol.
Same here. My and my brothers had filled up damn near like 4 hallways with gems. The underground was so underrated
I can't be the only one who LOVED the underground, I would spend hours down there digging up whatever and then burying my gem so they could grow. One of my favourite parts of gen 4
Yeah it was fun. I used to play my diamond version JUST for the underground part.
Melina Gaitanopoulou ur cute bro
Same, specially when you played it with friends, I used to do it all the time with my brother.
I was playing for a football team during the time of diamond and pearl and there were like 15 of us with a ds and the game. We would spend hours creating secret bases, laying down traps, stealing each other's flags
I played it solo 90% of the time and loved it. It was a lot of fun with some friends too. I think the guy in the video didn't like it because he was trying to rush the experience and clear the dex asap. Plus RNG was not on his side.

Pokemon gold here. Weve come so far 😂
Dude, just build a secret base. Walk in, close the door, open the door. It's like five seconds and you count as a new person. I tried it and it took me less than twenty minutes to get 32 on two games.
How do you make a base?
@@blitzgaming9561 Use a Digger Drill on any wall underground. You can get one from the Underground Man in Eterna City by completing his quests, or from a Trap Vendor underground.
I always thought everybody was doing it this way :D
Does this work in platinum?
@@iTriceratops I didn't use Platinum, but I'd assume so. The Underground is mostly unchanged.
Jrose11: *rants about how feebas won't evolve into Milotic with Max beauty*
...b..but it's holding an everstone
The footage still shows the Feebas full without max beauty stat, though. The Everstone didn't matter.
kokomomo6 the footage with the everstone probably happened after the failure when they realized they would need a new feebas. I believe that it lets you keep the nature when breeding and they needed it to like dry foods.
combee also deserves an honorable mention. shoutout to 12-year-old me who took a week to find one in a honey tree, trained it up to lvl 40, only to realize that it was male

Pokemon games adding little minigames is fine. The problem happens when game freak tries to force you play them to accomplish something unrelated to the minigame
Wakanda foeva cuhz
Digging up fossils was a cool concept, but it was really annoying when you wanted a fossil and you have no luck digging it up. Don't quote me on this, but i think if your playing platinum, you can only dig up one type of fossil until you beat the pokemon league which locks out so many potential party members. Bit of a dumb decision by game freak.
So what you are saying is add a mini game but give the player no reason to play said minigame? Yea that sound like a great idea. 10/10 good shit
Ben D In Pokemon platinum which fossil you get depends on your trainer ID if I'm not mistaken
Odd number:Cranidos
Even number:Shieldon
So if you're starting a play through and you plan to use one keep that in mind when you start your play through and reset your game until you get an odd/even number
Annoying isn't it.....well atleast you can manipulate the game to choose gamefreak isn't always that nice......stupid fucking munchlax....stupid feebas gamefreak can be assholes sometimes
@@altoid345b he said when they FORCE you to play it. Minigames are supposed to be optional, not mandatory. Get it kiddo :)

I sort of liked the Underground because of the amount of Max Revives, Evolution Stones and Heartscales you can find in it. Quite sort of fun if you ask me
Pablo Delgado the underground was so much fun they had the secret bases the mining mini game traps capture the flag etc it was so good
robert cosgrave Agreed, we need that back for at least one more game
also a pretty good way of making money if you have a big gem-garden where you can mine

Phantom Wolf its the cycle of siblings, you start out as companions, and as you grow up, the older one becomes more independent. Then as adults, you realize that you matter to each other and become more close. This is the case more often than not, I went through it with a brother 3 years older.

I got munchlax on my first try and boxed it for the rest of the game. OOF.
Thot Slayer I got mine on my second slathering. I’m probably going to have trash luck when I try to find Feebas.
got mine on my third tree i think. It was annoying hunting for female combee though.
Got mine as a starter
I thought you only could get munchlax by breeding
@@Tobitube93 that is another way to get it and probably much easier. You can just breed snorlax with ditto but I'm not sure if the snorlax needs to hold something to produce a munchlax.
Oh wow. I never knew how rare it was to get Munchlax. I lucked out in my first playthrough of Pearl and found one on the first tree I put honey on.
Personally, although tedious, the method of capturing Spiritomb is really cool.
It represents Japanese folklore of spirits of people who worked in caves in a way.
But the best part about it is that Cynthia uses it in her battle.
The fact that she throws out a pokemon most players have definitely never seen before at the beginning of the match is really cool. It also gets better since Spiritomb had no weaknesses at the time. Imagine being a kid and facing Cynthia for a first time and seeing Spiritomb.
I was 7 years old. Cynthia was my first champion battle.
The sheer, pants-shitting terror I felt realizing what I was up against on the outset will never leave my memory.
Yea I hate this game’s Marsh, mainly because of the shiny yanma that appeared out of nowhere and stayed around to taunt me before legging it
I'm amazed over how people can so calmly just grind their brains out with little to none appreciation and reward.
The only Pokemon game I would complete the dex in is red and blue
This game is far from the worst, too. Plenty of old games around this time really got into the rare drops aspect and endgame for genres like RPGs was becoming more of a thing.
Most of this stuff isn't too big of a deal, Pokemon players are such casuals. Except the competitive players. They're just weird.

Know this is 2 years ago, but I came back to the video specifically because I found a honey tree Munchlax after starting a new Diamond play through, on the FIRST honey tree in the game in Floaroma Meadow on my FIRST try. I feel like I used up the entirety of my luck for the rest of my life on that.
This is always my favourite to come back to. One of my favourites that pushed my boy Jrose past his brink.
This is up there with “96 Ralts at 4% with a Feebas” and “getting 32 BP for a White Herb in Ariados” for exasperation.
the mining spots arent exactly random.
if you bury the gems on the ground, they will appear near from them after a day.
Summoner Arthur You can exploit this easily by laying out literal *_fields_* of gems as far as you want them to be and come next appearance down underground and you'll never run out of the mining spots.
ItsDaKoolaidDude Sure! But I think you cant bury more than 70~80 gems. if you bury more than the maximum number, the first ones starts disappearing.
Aaron Ogle not at the level I can do it. I had laid about a 4x90 field that stretched pretty damn far and after waiting or forgetting, they all end up lvl 99
no wonder i always have so much mining spots
Summoner Arthur I recently discovered that too. I filled the hall you end up in when you come down from eterna with burried spheres and I always get loads of loot.
If you do this while you're playing through the game, it makes the game a bit easier actually
I'm gonna be "that guy" and say I was one of the few that had an easy time with Munchlax. I didn't know how hard it was at the time and used honey where someone told me to. It wasn't on the first try, maybe under 6 tries, but I loved that Munchlax and he was with me all the way through to the end. I'm sad that I probably won't get a playthrough like that ever again. Vespiquen is best girl tho. And screw this gen for the lack of fire types!
Yeah i also got munchlax without realizing how hard it was
LMAO when you get to the E4... I'm reminded of Kanto all over again. At least Platinum somewhat fixed the Fire type issue.
I 'm guessing he wasn't using an original DS, because I was able to manipulate time. Exit game, pull out cart, change time on DS forward, turn off, put card back in, turn on, and boom just like that, 4 or 5 resets later, I had Munchlax.
Hoenn gad lesser fire types.

"Diamond Pearl remakes not looking very likely" :D this aged beautifully
That whole experience required to catch Spiritomb is how I imagine most people did it back in the day as well. I, at the very least, only had one friend I played Pokemon with so we took turns talking to each other 32 times and stealing each other's flags however many times was necessary to fully upgrade our bases. I actually really enjoyed the underground with that friend.
Was a big fan of the underground, despite the flaws. Could get some pretty sweet items too, and if I remember correctly they got better as you progressed! Evolution stones were always a great find
Even in single player at least you get to loot stuff from there, unlike the original Gen III Secret Bases, where you get nothing if you don't have nearby friends playing RSE
Amen to that. I went to the underground at least once everytime I booted the game up, and I made unholy amounts of money selling stuff I didn’t need: Rare bones, Star Pieces, excess evo stones and fossiles, and a couple of Max Revives as well.
remember playing with my buddy and using all the neat little traps and stuff
Dam my favorite gen. The mining mini game was a nostalgia throwback to something I haven't seen in like 10 years. Completely forgot about it
I absolutely ADORE pearl. It's very difficult but it's meant to be that way, it was the introduction of the GTS. I had an amazing summer of figuring out how to complete my national dex on it, going onto forums and actually collaborating with other pokemon players and swapping friend codes to trade legendaries, breeding spiritomb to get almost anything I wanted. It completely changed my pokemon experience from something I mostly did on my own or rarely roping a friend in to help out to interacting with a whole pokemon community. I was so proud of all that work once I completed the national dex. Most of those mons are in my pokebank as part of my living dex.
The reason there are 151 pokemon in the Diamond and Pearl regional dex is that the games came out in the 10th anniversary year for Pokemon Red and Green. They were paying homage to the originals... in a really stupid way that screwed over the region's variety and made it so that some Sinnoh pokemon weren't in any regional pokedex until LEGENDS ARCEUS THIS YEAR (5 years after you made this lmaoo).
Apparently you haven't heard about Platinum and Venonat.
Very nostalgic video. Best pkmn content around
wait what about arceus
fighting cans Arceus is not in the regional pokedex. There's a bunch of gen iv mons that are not actually

+fighting cans exorist or you can learn how to do Arceuse's void glitch.
You didn't like the Underground?!? I've spent hours upon hours in there with my friends getting a lot of items like the plates and fossils, and getting more flags than them. Probably one of the features I'd really like to return in the inevitable remakes of DP! (Probably isn't as much fun if you do it alone :P)
And wow, I'm so glad I only started to get my living Dex in Gen 6, it was sooo much easier than it would have been here in Gen 4 :D
Same! I would go down there and mine just for the evolution stones and high-selling items! The plates can be useful as early-game hold items when you don't have a lot and anything you get a bunch of can just be sold. Best way to farm for money when you need it!
SwaggitySwooty its not fun when your goal is getting the pokedex full. Its such a fucking pain
Online underground capture the flag could be awesome...
Damn, not all you-tubers deserve the recognition but you went above and beyond!
I really love your content. Thank you! PS This is my second video of yours, but i usually click off a video pretty fast and for whatever reason you are holding my attention. enjoying this a lot
a thing to note is that, to get the regional dex diploma in sinnoh game, you only need to SEE them. which is possible with 1 game if you beat every trainer in the game till cynthia. the other mascot picture can be seen in mr. backlot's house. so it is possible to get the regional diploma in sinnoh with just one game.
of course, since this is a catch em all video, we have to catch them of course.
just a reminder for the 3rd part, that lugia and ho-oh is NOT needed to get the national dex diploma in sinnoh games. they are required for hgss of course. Of course, since we are attempting to catch em all, we will still need those two
If I recall correctly granted it's been a few years playing through the game regularly like you said you should see every Pokemon I don't remember doing anything too crazy to fill my regional Dex in that game I remember it actually being the easiest Regional Dex ever to fill because all you have to do is fight every trainer and it will be filled even spiritomb I remember wasn't too hard to get
I'm also pretty sure that you had to fill your Regional before you could get your National which is why they made it so easy
If you trade the Feebas over to HGSS, getting it massaged by Daisy in Pallet Town will raise it’s beauty stat. You can’t view contest stats in HGSS, but once you trade it back to a Sinnoh game you can see the results.
Matan Demayo good to know. Thanks.
Same with FRLG. Contest stats are in the game from RSE but not viewable.

I loved the underground, I always thought it was so lit. Excellent progression from secret bases from gen 3
Gen. 4 is my childhood. My 1st game was soulsilver. I then went back to game stop and got my dad to also buy me pearl and platinum. My sister had heartgold, diamond and platinum. We had lots of fun in the underground game. The trick is to plant the gems in the ground then they will grow! The walls around your gem garden will be filled with fossils! (And other shards and such) i can find a fossile every 10 or so mine mini games.
Awwww. Mine was blue.
Bruh my childhood was gen 1 but I have so much nostalgia for 4th gen ;0; Replaying it feels too different, I loved playing it back then, SO much that I would fall asleep to the league's night ost.

Oh actually I'm remembering lots of the gen 3 GameCube games. The last Pokemon I got was Ho-oh out of Heart Gold, because the requirements to get a Ho-oh out of Colosseum were so insane that I don't even think I bothered to try.

Hey! This is Butterfree from The Cave of Dragonflies, late to the party. Glad you enjoyed my honey tree guide, and thanks for the shoutout! (Though there's just one of me, and I'm a woman. :P)
Slathering the trees three times a day doesn't require you to stay up for eighteen hours! You slather them once in the morning, say 10 AM; then you slather them again in the afternoon at 4 PM; and then you slather them again in the evening before you go to bed, at 10 PM. You'll be asleep by the time the Pokémon appears in the tree at 4 AM, but that's fine; you'll pick it up at 10 AM the next morning when you slather the trees again. It sounds unintuitive but you only need to be awake twelve hours to get those three slatherings in.
"late" xD
Hey Butterfree, I remember browsing everything on your site all those years ago as a kid, being introduced to spriting and using your tutorials as I recolored in MS paint, reading your writing as well as all your fun little posts and of course the personality quizzes. I loved your mature/morbid takes on the Pokemon world, specifically your short stories about Butterfree (my favorite Pokemon), and the move Curse. I'm rereading them right now and it's a nostalgia trip.

On the third of the day, you need to wait 6 hours to battle the Pokemon and reslather so technically you do
Time to be that one guy and say, why didn’t you do this in platinum? You can get both fossil Pokemon, you can catch both Dialga and palkia as well as Giratina. You can get all version exclusives. And you can get spiritomb. All in platinum.

how do you like the games? have you found time to play?
The angrier you get the more you sound like Michael from Achievement Hunter and I love it.
I love this generation...
I did all of this back when Diamond was current gen and i'm honestly surprised how hard he found this, the mining thing is actually taught to you in its entirety via the old guy that gives you the ability to go underground.
I'm pretty sure I also remember getting all the safari zone\type area in the course of a couple days after school not to mention getting all but 7 Pokemon on Sapphire before the next game was released (only missed the 7 due to accidentally wiping my game).
I get the strong impression that none of it is actually that difficult, its just that its not intended to be played in one sitting so its only noticeable in this specific scenario.
Really the game is designed to be played by kids before and after school, hence the timers on the trees etc - anywhere between 6 to 8 hours is fantastic if you slather the honey before school, come home and check then check then, re-apply the honey, and get the next one the following morning.
It keeps you engaged over multiple days and every now and then you'll get a reward in the form of a rare pokemon
Amen this is exactly what I did when I was 12
"Diamond and Pearl remakes not looking very likely at this point". Boy, am I glad you were wrong! This game is amazing!
I kind of appreciate when there are unlockables in video games that actually feel earned. Beating the Elite Four feels like an accomplishment the first time, but for a veteran Pokemon player it always devolves to simple type-advantages and numbers. I like getting something that no one else would be insane enough to go for, and something that other Pokemon fans will have legitimate respect for.
That being said a lot of the time those accomplishments are more about toughing out frustrating RNG scenarios rather than actually demonstrating any kind of skill, which is pretty unfortunate. "I earned this thing by slathering a tree with honey and waiting 2348 hours" is not actually that much of a boast.
Been checking the channel every day since Gen 3 to see if you came out with Gen 4. And it's Finally here!!!!!

Gohar Awais people going to your underground base and talking to your npc version count as you talking to them. However it would be the same as the person going in and out a lot
Great Vid, I made one on the merits of pokemon but this is really interesting because you gave examples of some of the most tediously difficult some aspects can be
I love You for this video, my pokemon Pearl game is the only one I decided I would ever try to fill up because it's the sole game i spent the most time on (not just a pokemon game or a ds game, but ANY game, idk i had alot of spare time as a kid). Seeing You get incredibly mad at the ways You have to catch or evolve some pokemon made me laugh because I am just as mad at that Spiritomb encounter. Or munchlax. Thanks for the vid.
It's freaking 1am and then this video came...

@@nanouhex5214 Yeah
It really speaks to the quality of JRose's current content that these videos are WHY I subscribed and I completely forgot he did them XD
I remember spending months checking those stupid trees for the munchlax. Every morning before school I would check the trees. After one finally showed up I was so scared it would flee. So, I used the one masterball we got on it. Good memories man. I’ll never forget that.
TheUnderground still works nperfectly fine nowadays, because it doesn't utilize the Wifi-Connection at all, instead just the wireless connection between two DS's, so if you and your Friend still happen to have one of these and a Copy of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum you can still play this together.
And honestly, I had very much fun back in the days, Building a base, decorating it, visiting my friends cave, setting traps, playing the capture-the-flag minigame...
So... maybe it's just Nostalgia and because Platinum was my first Pokemon-Game and one of of my first games in total, but there was pretty much to the underground in my opinion.
I loved the mining bit on the underground. But I had no friends to play with T.T
The undergroud was so much fun back in the days! :O
I dindt have wifi back then so i never got those wifi only pokemon seriously tho fuck those honey trees.
Unlike the dream world :(
I think it was a lot of fun IF U HAD FRIENDS. If you didn't (at least pokemon players) well....loneliness so I understand why he disliked it tbh.
“You’re probably like, ‘how’re you gonna talk about this for the whole video???’”
Jrose-“let me tell you” 🤣
Thank you. Route 209 is one of the best VGM I’ve ever heard in a Pokémon game and probably in a game period
Can’t believe I did this as a kid! The last Pokémon I ever got was actually Lumineon. Just forgot it existed lol
In the times I've played Platinum, I've encountered Munchlax immediately after lathering the 2 trees with honey and checking them. And one of them had Pokérus. RNBless by RNJesus.
Diamond and Pearl is the definition of hit and miss. Platinum was amazing though.
Moe's I agree. Platinum fixed a lot of things from DP
Tyler Kaszuba how?
Agree. Platinum is my favourite game in the series. My love for Diamond and Pearl is purely nostalgic.
+Tyler Kaszuba do you guys live in igloos?
Lol jk I live in Canada too
I loved Pearl
Congrats on 2 mil views! So proud of you!
And just to say, the underground was awesome! I’m pretty sure the fossil always dropped after the first few digs, the hammer and pick was annoying but it was a fun extra which gave you an extra activity to do in game.
Yessssss XD honestly these videos are really cool
Lol he's gonna be mad but (not sure if this works in diamond or pearl but it does in platinum), to get the certificate from the game director by SEEING all of the pokemon not actually having to catch them. XD
Isn't that a given ? Never expected that the game wanted me to catch every Pokemon because i never even tried to
Optidalfprime Gotta catch em all is just marketing. If you don’t wanna catch em all, why would you buy all the cards? Good way to make money from a card game and TV show.
yeah, but why are you telling me that ?
Optidalfprime Not so much *telling* you, just pointing it out. Catching them all has never meant anything. It’s not the goal of the game.
Why’d you say you never tried to catch them all? Same thing, it’s a CZcams comment. Not a political debate lol. It’s all good.
Never expected it to be
I was wondering why you were saying Munchlax was so hard to get, then you mentioned honey and it all came flooding back...
All those hours wasted throwing honey on those trees... Good times.
*whispers*
"Yo u want some void glitch"
Honestly, I spent an unhealthy amount of time in the Underground. Out to the 300 or so hours on my old Pearl game, at least 50-100 was likely spent there.
I also never found a Croagunk. I somehow caught two or so Carnivine, but never found a Croagunk. Feck this game.
I found a lot of them I was intrigued by them and everytime I restarted I would catch one. Their special ability is cool.
now catch them all in sword and shield.
*oh wait*
I'm not going to make an hour long video........you tempted fate with that one.
CZcams: _Hey let's recommend this video to this guy for literally an entire year before he gives up and clicks on it_

I remember a friend finding a freaking shiny drapion in safari zone
I caught a shiny wooper in it, and a Drapion too low leveled to even be a Drapion as well
Slather the bark with honey?
>[YES]
[NO]
I actually really liked the underground. It could have felt a little more organic in it's design with a variety of type themed areas (underground lakes, etc.), but I enjoyed it a lot for what it was.
The minigame can be a little tricky to do optimally, but if I remember right, you want to start by using your hammer to randomly clear a few spots in the soft dirt, then dig out anything you find, then switch to the pickaxe and use it to probe random areas until you find part of something then carefully excavate the top rocks using the pickaxe and the next layer using the hammer. Focus on one thing at a time, if you try to get everything out then you'll end up leaving multiple things.
A better version of the underground is actually one thing they could add to the newer games that would immediately get me on board, the same goes for the step counter that came with HeartGold and SoulSilver, or the ARG elements of pokemon go where you need to head to an actual store to stock up on pokeballs, and the Colosseum mechanic of stealing the pokemon of abusive trainers.
At some point they'll release a pokemon game that has everything, and it will be amazing.
i enjoy ur content and am thankful for all the sufferings u went through
