@@typo7279 when I was in high school, if my headphones broke, I'd just tell my parents when I got in the car I had broken headphones, and had to get new ones, so they would drive me to the Koss factory, and I'd get a new set. free. I just had to keep the receipt for the ones I was using, and that took care of it. I must've gone through half a dozen sets of headphones during high school. they lasted almost a year, but what do you expect for that price?

1) it's probably dust, the foam cheese things can collect SO MUCH DUST
2) these are at LEAST a decade old, my grandpa had a pair in 2011 when I graduated

I've never associated Koss with anything high end. I only remember Koss from the terrible computer lab headphones that never worked in elementary school, and some really cheap overears my parents bought me. The Koss logo on this fits right in with that expectation lol.

@@johnsmith970 🧐Call me a spoiled snob, if ya want, but I’m not putting those polyurethane foam covered looking things near my ear, even if they sing like a choir of God’s very own angels. Incidentally, though, I’ll record a review on a pair of cheap-ass Sylvania branded rechargeable battery, powered Bluetooth speakers, with 8” inch drivers, bought separately, but synchronize for stereo. They actually do sound phenomenal, for the price of 30 dollars each. My only complaints, or criticisms of them are that they have a crap load of absolutely unnecessary, and ridiculous tacked on additional features, that are all in one way or another, either nearly, or entirely useless and pointless. Like, for instance, it’s got an extending tote handle and wheels, however, you’d have to be about a two feet or less in height to make use of it that way, and their so light, I could sooner strap em to my head with a belt, and call it a day, before I’d consider using those Koss headphones. Matter of fact, I actually bought the first one, to slip in an old army back-pack, to run a portable battery operated preamp, on my belt, between the speakers aux, and my electric guitar to use as a fully battery operated busker rig. Fortunately, the aux input is the one additional feature, that’s any decent. The karaoke mic input is an absolute crying shame, cause it’d be alright if it didn’t have this atrocious over saturated reverb, super imposed on the input, which seemingly can’t be switched off, whatsoever. Oh,.. a USB port, presumably to charge your phone, or connect it directly, and causes it to cycle the power on and off rapidly, like it’s having a seizure or something. Anyway,.. it’s a comically long list of ridiculous features, they could simply do away with, and it’d actually make it come across a much nicer product. It’ll certainly be fun for me to make that video. Thanks anyway, for the suggestion, but I already have way too many headphones, and a handful of them, which I actually halfway like, are still far more numerous, than I have ears to wear them. 😜
I feel like there was a phase when they were trying to brand themselves as high end, at least over here. I never owned anything they made though, so I don't know if it was good quality.

A small note on that oily resudue: it's (one) of products of the foam breaking down. It's somewhat volatile and it can damage other plastics, so these might have been okay cheapophones back when new.

As a Wisconsinite, can confirm. This is the level of product quality for which we are known - and now I can add The Worst Headphones Ever to our glorious resume.
I thought they were going to be over-ears due to the general chunky design and the reveal that they were shitty in-ears stapled to solid foam blocks kicked me into orbit.
The Koss lifetime warranty is pretty cool. My PortaPros ended up getting a broken hinge, and I got replacements for less than half of the price of a new pair. Funny that it wasn't the cable that gave in first.

@@magusperde365 Koss' warranty is like that, at least here in Poland. They do "fix" your headphones up if you have them registered, but you still gotta pay for the repair. In my case it was 40zł (9USD) for picking up the new pair from the courier, and also I had to pay for sending them off. But still, given that they were broken and all the sponges were deteriorating, I still think it's a good deal to send them back to get a new pair when a new pair costs 150zł (~33,50USD).
@@supra107 grado has a year or two warranty,I can't remember. But you can contact them to get a pair repaired anytime you want. I find it weird its called warranty lol
@@magusperde365 Yeah Koss calls it a "limited lifetime warranty" and it basically means that as long as you have a pair registered you can send it off to repair and essentially get a new pair for a fraction of the price. It seems that in the US it works the same way and you also pay 9$ for the "repair".
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought they were over ear headphones. I didn't know they were just cheese shapes attached to hook type earphones! Oh my. I had high expectations.

I think KOSS QC has really gone down for a lot of their products over the years, and they don't seem to be as good of a value as they once were. It's Why I've turned to Philips, JVC, or JLab when I need a cheap pair of buds, or cans that still sound 1/2 decent.

Tbh I could see the “cheese headphones” concept working better if they’d gone with on- or over-ear ones instead of buds- I mean, I’ve also seen cheesehead earmuffs that were roughly the same shape as a headset, so just making a regular pair of headphones with a similarly shaped cover over the top wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. Would’ve looked a lot better than just slapping a couple of wedges onto the back of a pair of stinkbuds imo.

I was _expecting_ on/over-ear headphones with cheesewedge-shaped pads. It sounds so obvious. The fact that they're just earbuds with removable foam attachments is not only cheap, but also disappointing, and straight-up nonsensical (the complete _opposite_ of obvious). Who ever heard of earbuds with on-ear, earpad-sized foam pieces that can be attached to said earbuds with an elastic band?!

I would not be surprised that the foam contained some kind of trace amount of solvents. With the time the headphone was with the foam solvent started dissolving the cheap plastic. Also the fact that they weren't sealed in cardboard couldn't have helped.

Oh, Koss can make some real garbage. I used to have a pair of Koss Sound Cells in the 80s -- hand-sized portable speakers to plug into your Walkman. One of the speakers just kinda... buzzed to the tune of the music. The other sounded terrible.

ESPECIALLY when it comes to the football teams omg… As someone from near Green Bay who’s never really cared about sports, the rivalry between Packers fans and Bears/Vikings fans is _so_ extra that it’s honestly kind of surreal. There’s even an entire _diss track_ about the Bears that gets played on the local radio stations sometimes when we’re playing against them.
I really wish these had been like audiophile grade actual headphones that had some merit. Imagine being suggested the Cheesephones as actually usable headphones in audio forums lmao.
