    Fun fact: IMUs are used to measure acceleration. Six axis IMU means that the IMU is capable of measuring the 3 axes of linear acceleration in X,Y,Z (up/down, left/right, front/back) as well as rotational acceleration around each of the 3 X,Y,Z axis (yaw/pitch/roll).

    I just bought a standard model 2021 MT-09 a few weeks ago. I've been dialing in the suspension and tire air pressures, with very noticeable results. The standard settings and air pressures are NOT optimum.

    OC: This could possibly be the perfect bike, at least until the new MT-10 comes out. My '14 FZ-09 has Ohlins front and rear which really improves the ride, as well as a tune, full Yoshimura exhaust, intake mod, and lots of Woodcraft goddies. I wish mine had cruise control and the other rider aids but it performs pretty well for what it is. I'll have to keep an eye out for a demo day and give the new SP a try. I may be tempted to trade mine in for one! Also, mode 4 (from how you explained it) seems like a newbie could get this bike and work their way up the power band. Like they could just grow with this bike, especially with all the electronic rider aids. Great video Chase!

Only criticism I had with my SP was the handlebars. Not just my opinion as many ‘09 owners opted to change them. I went for LSL bars which transformed the bike, you feel the front a whole lot more. Most go for the Carmichael bars which are similar. Thanks for calling us previous gen owners “advanced riders”. I don’t know. Maybe that’s stretching it a bit. It’s pretty manageable, maybe not for newbies, but not that frightening imo.

    Does anyone know if chase has a video of the cb650r? I couldn't find one. I always wanted an MT09, but I do some highway ridding on my MT07 every now and then and it doesn't feel very stable at all, specially since I live in a windy area. The MT09 is not much heavier, so im afraid it would be the same issue.
    The CB650R is a bit heavier, I hear it is a bit more stable, but I would love to see a good review of it.

    MT stands for "master of Torque" but should be "Master of Wheelies"! Fun bike for sure! I saw a dude doa wheelie from 1st through 5th grear! bike is insane fun! but the electronics on it are good enough to contain the bike as well. I think this sector of bikes is where its at! Things like MT-09 SP, 890 Duke R, Street Triple RS, Streetfighter V2 and maybe MV Agusta 800 RR? Perhaps z900 and GSX-S750? My buddy has MT-09, and I almost bought one. I had liter bikes (R1M, GSX-R1000R) and other fun bikes (Super DUke R, Street Triple R). My Triple R got ran over by a truck in a supermarket parkinglot recently, and I needed to pick a new bike. I look at liter bikes (ZX-10R, GSX-R1000R) and maybe a new Super DUke R, but ended up picking up the 80 Duke R. Almost went with a MT-09 or XSR900 (I was looking for z900RS (non cafe but could not find one of those). What turned me to the DUke over MT-09 was the suspension on it, the torque down low, the looks, the breaks (being able to put ABS into supermoto where I can slide rear wheel and doo stopies b/c ABS doesn't get on the way), and the amoutn of customization on electronics (which was what won me over the Triple RS along with the lower torque). Love that bike now! (890) BUt My buddy has MT-09 and we swap, and this bike is a beast and a lot of fun!
    Chase: you going to swap MT-10 for the MT-09 SP? Or have you looked at XRS900? Also, what is chance of getting KTM ot lend an 890 Duke R and doing a Duke v MT-09 v street triple maybe? not sure if you guys can do that, but it'd be awesome of you could. as for perfect bike, It is dam good, again, I prefered 890 DUke R for Canyon blasting and it felt more stable, and I like the lower torque curve over the two triples I was looking at.

I put a down payment on a MT09 SP 4 months ago. I guess it's stuck on a container ship off the coast of California waiting to be unloaded? Arg! I guess it'll have to be a Christmas present for me, from me. Oh well!

    • @deweysturgill6220
      @deweysturgill6220 Pƙed 2 lety

      The bike will still flip, don't be fooled by what some people say. Any lightweight bike with near 70lb ft of torque will loop over backwards so fast your ass won't have time to pucker.
      The lift control helps, but it dosent completely phase out rider error.

    OC here, I wanna see all Chase's thoughts on it after a month or two, see how the aftermarket adopts the bike, Corbin Seats, a windscreen, etc but not gonna lie the MT-09 SP might be my next bike. Just gotta see how fuel economy is and how it handles on city and longer commutes. One question, is the cruise control "adaptive" or "stationary" not sure if thats the correct terminology so let me explain, say you are going up or down a hill does the cruise control try to keep the speed the same or does it just keep the throttle position the same and you slow down going uphill or speed up going downhill.

      I have the standard 2021 MT09 and it's pretty darn good for me. I'm getting between 49 and 51 mpg but I'm not a hooligan. I got the Yamaha comfort seat and it's much better than the OE on the standard bike. I also installed the Mustard Bikes wind deflector and I think it really finishes off the front end look. I do have issues sometimes with the quick shifter between 1st and 2nd so I normally just use the clutch for that shift now. Overall, I'm loving this bike.

      I have about 3k in my non sp. aftermarkets starting to come alive for it. My commute 1 hour each way, 20 on back roads, 25 on high way and 15. I get about 44mpg and i ride "spirited" lol. seat is pretty good, but after about an hour it can get rough and it pushes you into the tank which is annoying. The bike is an absolute dream machine though. If i knew i was going to love it the way i do i would have gotten the sp. not for the suspension(that 95% of people dont know how to adjust, me including), but for the cruise and heated grips. I currently have a 1000cc sport, ktm 530 supermoto, and a 18 indian scout. This is my favorite, GO BUY ONE
