Maurice White is legendary !! He's on my Mount Rushmore of music. He can write lyrics, compose the music, play multiple instruments, sing, engineer and produce. You can barely count on one hand, the number of individuals in American music, that excel at those aforementioned disciplines.

I’ve heard this song, of course I have, but I never listened to it. I couldn’t have even told you who the artist was. In fact, I had to play the video to be sure I knew it. It seems like music just played on the radio for me, I never looked into the artists or bought albums, unless it was a greatest hits album. So I missed out on a lot of great music growing up and now there is no more great music (imo!) So I’m rediscovering the oldies along with the younger generation. 🤷‍♀️😄

I absolutely love this song but it not quite what most people think it’s about. If you listen to the lyrics carefully, according to a interview that Phillip Bailey the lead singer of EWF, this song was about meeting a one night stand. The phrase “ love have been played “ was about convincing a woman to go home with you that night. Then he saids“ in the morning after the love games have been played and all of our dillusions will just go away “. Lol

I saw them in concert in Philly in ...'78 and this was the one song they didn't do. I had a gun pulled on me on the subway for my ticket. Still got in as they were all bought in sequence. Wow. They were all great. NGL Verdine impressed me the most. To be able to play such great bass and move like that.

As others have already said, you need to listen to the live version of this of song. From the "Gratitude" Double LP. This original studio mastered track just pales in comparison--nice, but nothing of the power and depth you hear when you hear it live.
Hear "Reasons" off Gratitude and hear Philip Bailey at his very best.
