RIP Apollo, RIP Carl Weathers and thank you for your service
Class,,,,👍👍👍
Indeed.
Here here 👏🏾
He's in the sky looking down with Abe and that Alligator that took his hand. Rip🤘🤘
Hell Yes. The was clutch is some of my favorite movies.
Dolph Lundgren (Ivan Drago) looks here like a stupid machine without brains. In his real life, apart of actor, he is chemical engineer, martial arts specialist and speaks six languages. Great performance in this movie.
Sadly he has cancer !😥🥊🥋
@@mikemenelik8193oh no!
During the final fight in the movie, Dolph sent Sly to the ICU for real for four days when a rib shot apparently damaged a heart muscle.
I believe Dolph Lundgren was in M.I.T.
@@startrekiborg Yes, he was here on a Fulbright scholarship to MIT. Very smart guy. And reportedly really nice, too.
You two probably aren't old enough to remember the Cold War days, so I'll explain the "chaperones" to you: the implication was that they were KGB, sent to keep an eye on Rocky to make sure a) he wasn't cheating better than Drago; b) to report on his progress to the authorities so they could gauge how much a threat he would be to the regime via the upcoming match; and, finally, c) to make Rocky feel intimidated and unsafe i.e. Big Brother is watching you!
If he dies, he dies
That line hits hard to this day.
When his wife screams, “Apollo!”. 😢
I must break you.
Probably the quote I've used most in real life.
"Throwin punches in his room: "if he cries, he cries""
Dolph tried to apply for modeling at the time but was told he was too buff and "not the body type" they were looking. Thank God he played in Rocky 4. 😁😁
"YOU CUT HIM, YOU CUT HIM YOU SEE? HE'S NOT A MACHINE HE'S A MAN!!!" I loved that part!
The entire theater stood up and cheered when Rocky bloodied Drago. HE'S CUT! HE'S CUT! That was the moment.
@@SurvivorBri”The Russian’s cut! And it’s a BAD cut!!”
That’s the announcer line. Lol. Love that part!
@@breathedeeep you hear Duke in the background yelling "he's cut" and then the announcer says that line.
"Without a challenge, the warrior might as well be dead Stallion." Heartbreaking foreshadowing of Apollo's death. He died fighting.
I think its important to consider the context, this movie was during the height of the Cold War. US vs USSR was a common thread penetrating almost all aspects of our societies. Sports, politics, science, engineering, etc. Rocky IV was Sly's attempt to make a statement that we can change and learn to accept each other rather than be enemies.
CHILL!! NOT the 'height' of the Cold War, but yes, it was still 'hot" (or 'cold'?). The worst moment was the Cuban missile crisis in the 1960's, 20 ish years before...
Either way, If this had been real life Drago and those national leaders would likely have been found dead mysteriously not long after he lost that fight. They cannot lose face especially to the U.S. And him doping or steroiding or whatever was him guaranteeing a win. At whatever cost. Even now, remember the last summer Olympics when Russia’s teams got disqualified because too many athletes tested positive for things they shouldn’t have? I can’t even get too mad at the athletes because I can’t even imagine the literal national pressure they’re under to win and represent.
@@stevenandcarminabeedle9089 Even in the 70s steroids were an issue.
@@elcorado83 1985 was peak Cold War man. Were you alive then? Or an adult? Tensions between east and west had not been as bad since the Cuban crisis. To use your words; worse "moment". But that was only one incident. Close calls happened regularly in the 80s.
Yeah I love how this movie was a stark metaphor of a real political issue. I also love when Rocky gave that little speech at the end about all of us changing. Deep stuff.
Rocky single-handedly takes down Drago, the USSR, and wins the entire cold war in 90 minutes. How can you not love it?
This reminds me of how patriotic we were as a nation back in the day. It's the best Rocky movie IMO. 💖
Yeah. And now we literally have Russian sympathizers calling themselves lawmakers.
That "No Easy Way Out" montage is still one of my favorites of all time. I love that scene so much. The "Hearts on Fire" training one is good too. R.I.P Carl Weathers.
I have “No Easy way Out” on my playlist.
Agree. Love it.
Both songs in my workout list🔥
@@deetorrance3659 It's such a banger.
@@NakedSnake85 They'll definitely get you hyped up, LOL.
I always get chills when Duke screams "you cut him! You hurt him! You see?? He's not a machine, he's a man!"
RIP Burt Young, Tony "Duke" Burton, Michael Pataki, and Carl Weathers.😢😢😢😢
"You hurt him.. you see he's not a machine.. he's a MAN.." was delivered so well that everytime I hear it, my whole being wants to get off the mat and fight every obstacle I have in my life.
Always loved Duke as a trainer.
I remember when those lines were said watching it in the theater and everyone went nuts cheering .
Man that line gets me all the time
For real!
He's cut! He's cut!
"Living in America" by James Brown is still one of the all-time great jams from the movies.
"I must break you".... best 4 word line in a movie I ever heard as a kid. 😂
You could say that line and everyone around you would know what you're quoting.
stop the dam fight was hard too
This movie is 70% montages... And im not mad at that
Rocky 1976
Rocky 2 1979
Rocky 3 1982
Rocky 4 1985
Rocky 5 1990
Rocky Balboa 2006
All good movies
I'd prefer if we just pretend Rocky V didn't exist 😂
@@DirtySouth96agreed!
@@DirtySouth96heeeey what do you mean Tommy Gunn, I see with this comment you have fear 😆
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
“He’s a piece of iron” Drago was almost equally impressed with rocky
If you EVER see someone running up ANY kind of incline (especially snow) and shouting, "DRAGO!", You know they're one of us. They have seen Rocky 4 and they love it.
If anyone ever wondered how Sly truly felt about Carl Weathers, they only need to watch what Sly said about him after his untimely passing. It was quite moving. RIP Carl Weathers.
I remember seeing this in the theatre with my older brother. I was 11ish The whole theatre was chanting "Rocky, Rocky!" One of my fondest childhood memories
I know the comments will cover all the great behind the scenes stuff about this movie but I'm so glad BJ mentioned how good the soundtrack is because as good as it was at the time its still incredible today 39 years later!
one of the greatest soundtracks of all time
“To the end..” Drago respecting Rocky before the final round.
This one is probably my favorite of the franchise. The training montage alone.
Yes the music during the training montage is phenomenal! This whole soundtrack was through the roof amazing
One and Three for me.
Best montage ever, period.
For me the entire death scene was amazing. It's so sad that Apollo dies but the whole lead up to it and then the slow motion when he falls and he hits the mat and it takes too long for Rocky to throw in the towel. It's all so heartbreaking and sad
The best shape Rocky was ever in
Rambo 2 . They came out the same year
My favorite Rocky film.
So many people crap on this one but I agree...this is by far my favorite. Followed by the original.
I don't think this movie is crap. It's just my least favorite of the Rocky/Creed movies because it's so unrealistic. The joke me and my friends have is that Rocky fought a cartoon character
Everything was on fire in the 80s.
Hearts on fire, loves on fire, im on fire. What a lit decade
We didn't start the fire
It was always burning, since the world's been turning
Fun fact Stallone was actually married to Drago's wife during the making of this movie. then years later she was dating and did a reality show with Flavor Flav from Public Enemy.
No wonder Drago looked so pissed off throughout the movie.
thanks for the laugh! 😂 @@Osprey850
Yeah i remember that show. I recall seeing a part where her and Flav were about to get it on.
They got married a month after this film came out.
@@Osprey850😁
"This is supposed to be an expedition!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Asia you literally cracked me up
The guy portraying a Russian premier is a dead ringer for Mikhail Gorbachev the actual premiere of Russia at the time!! The one Ronald Reagan famously said "Mr Gorbachev, tear down that wall" regarding the Berlin Wall!! He's Gorbachev's twin all the way down to the birthmark that looks like Alaska on his head!
I’m sure the make up department helped.
At 22:58 when BJ says “this whole thing done turned political”, it didn’t turn political, it started that way. The US and the USSR had been at odds with each other since just after World War 2. The Cold War had been going for decades at this point. It was always political.
The training montage, the music in this whole movie is just so fkn EPIC
Indeed. Especially with the music when he reaches the mountain top.
@@nathanneelyoutlawdiditprod2891 definitely
Of all 6 Rocky films I’ve probably watched Rocky 4 the most
“Weird Al” Yankovic did a parody of James Brown’s song Living In America called “Living With A Hernia”. 😂
"I feel bad!"
We saw this as kids and literally boohoo cried like babies when Apollo died. What's crazy is that everyone that watches this movie is always super excited when it starts just to be completely shocked in the middle. Then we're all on the tips of our toes when it's Rocky's time to fight. What an epic movie. The best Rocky imo. Great reaction as usual guys!
Adrian saying "you can't win" was like a dagger to the heart!
Fun fact. Brigitte Nielsen (Ivan Drago's wife) became engaged to actor Sylvester Stallone during the production of Rocky IV. They married after the release of the film, on December 15, 1985.
Rock was a southpaw… But as he trained with Apollo, they trained him to use his jab and develop power from his right hook… He beat Drago with the right hand to drive home the point that Apollo was still with him
Dolph Lungren aka Drago was 6-5". He was the European karate champion in 1980 and 1981. He also played a great HE-MAN in the movie Masters of the Universe 1987. With a very young Courtney Cox/ Monica of Friends.
This movie has been kinda hard to watch since Carl Weathers passed away 😢
Truth
That part on Happy Gilmore when he sings we've only just begun hard to watch
He's just some dude that you've never even met. It's not that hard.
@@NovusIgnis I don't sit there and cry but if you was a fan of the guy it is sad
@@NovusIgnis what's your problem??
1st- RIP Carl Weathers. What a great man, actor, and physical specimen of a man.
In all of the Rocky movies, Sly wanted there to be some contact so that the seenes looked real. In this movie, Dolph actually hit Sly so hard that Sly’s heart was hit by his own rib cage which put him in the hospital for a short stay. As much as Rocky and Apollo are total superb athletes in this movie, Ivan Drago makes them look like regular people. Lol. I loved this movie, and still do. It hurts my heart to see Apollo go out after Carl has now passed.
Dolph was an accomplished martial art guy & was naturally big like that. Stallone asked to really get punched & was sent to the hospital. Exhibition fights are supposed to lite & not all out.
I dunno about natural, steroids were the $hit in the 80's across all sports and it definitely looked good on camera.
I think he actually almost died from it. Something with his heart. I can’t remember.
The robots name is Sico, he was therapy tool for Stallones autistic son and he decided to put him in the movie, although these robot scenes are removed from the directors cut. Sico ended up going on tour with James Brown after the movie.
That is the most 80’s and James Brown things I have ever heard 😂
Rocky IV was my cousin’s favorite. He wore that VHS tape out. RIP cuz
Drago was so hot to me.
This movie was so huge when it came out. One of the most iconic movies of that decade and of all time.
Duke: Pretty tough weather we’re having?
Rocky: Yeah…
Duke: But it’s good. Toughen you up.
Rocky: Yeah I guess so.
Duke: You know…when Apollo died… a part of me died. Apollo was like a son to me. I raised him. But You’re the one who’s gonna keep his spirit alive. You’re the one, that’s gonna make sure that he didn’t die for nothing. Now you’re gonna have to go through Hell… Worse than any nightmare you could ever dream. But in the end… I know you’ll be the one standing. You know what you have to do. Do it… Do it.
Rocky: Thanks Duke
Carl Weathers and Dolph Lundren truly disliked each other. After a particularly bad day, Carl told his manager to get him out of his contract for the movie and franchise. He was fond of being a part of the Rocky movies but couldn't set aside his dislike for Dolph. That's when the movie had to be changed to kill off his character. Love you guys.
The Russians wanted the fight on their territory to control the circumstances.
Keep going and enjoy
I was a movie usher in high school when Rocky 4 came out. The audience would literally jump to their feet when Drago went down.
This movie soundtrack is 🔥
Ludmilla Vobet Drago: Good luck. I hope after we can be friends.
Mary Anne Creed: I hope so.
Ludmilla Vobet Drago: Of course, they're sportsmen. Not soldiers.
Ivan Drago: *Is literally a Soviet military Captain*
11:08...Pause. I understand firsthand what Apollo is talking about. There's a lot of people in professional sports and in the military that whether they realize it or not, are constantly looking for that next "battle", that next "enemy", that next obstacle. It's part of what makes us good at what we do. It gives us purpose. It serves something bigger than ourselves. When the battle is over, your purpose is over and there's nothing left to live for.
"REMEMBER I COULD DO THAT, LIKE 10 YEARS AGO?" Almost spit out my coffee laughing when you said that Asia. :)
RIP Carl Weathers
This takes place during the Cold War.
That's why there was so much animosity around this fight.
Recently, I’ve been nursing a left leg situation where it swelled from my knee to my foot. It’s getting better, but I do try to rest it.
When I saw your video had dropped for this movie! You put the biggest smile on my face! Keep doing what you’re doing BJ and Asia!
Imagine time traveling back to opening night for Rocky IV, and cheering along with everyone else in the theater. :)
For me, the most entertaining Rocky film.
Fun fact: Carl Weathers aka Apollo was a pro football player and Dolph Lundgren was a professional Kickboxer. So both were actual athletes before making these films. Also Dolph accidentally hospitalized Sylvester Stallone during a sparring session when he punch him in the chest. The punch was said by the doctors to have the same damage as a car wreck. So he (Dolph) really was that dude.
Burt Young (Paulie) was also an accomplished boxer even though he was playing the part of a buffoon in the Rocky movies.
Carl Weathers we all miss and love you
This movie still pulls on the heart strings. Y’all’s emotions will be wrecked.
Burning Heart was done by Survivor too. Who of course did Eye of the Tiger for Rocky III.
This is 1985. Cold War in full force. My senior year. The hate for the USSR was strong.
For me, this is the best one of the series. Thanks for reacting.
It's just peak 80's with the patriotism, East vs West theme, and cheesy montages scored with power ballads lol
If you were alive in the '80s or old enough to remember this movie and the tension between the USA and Russia....This movie gave you chills when you watched it.... It still does for me
This is the Rocky that broke me. Having Apollo die felt so cruel. The No Easy Way Out montage is one of my favorite of all time and that song has been a regular staple on my playlists for over 10 years.
RIP Carl Weathers. This film has my favorite montage (technology vs. nature) and soundtrack/score.
I had the privilege of watching this in the theatre in 1985! I’ll never forget it! The crowd went nuts! The Cold War was in full swing.
Listened to this reaction earlier today. I'm a trucker and we can't watch reactions but I listened and I support you guys. You help us out here more than you know to pass the time
My fav Rocky. I cried like a baby in the movie theater when Apollo died. I loved their story of going from enemies to family. I knew he would win once Adrianne came to Russia. The best training montage ever!
This is my favorite one
Sylvester Stallone re-edited Rocky IV a few yrs ago & retitled it Rocky v Drago. It has 20 min of new footage, he made it more dramatic & removed some the dated stuff like the robot....its really, really good. So worth the watch!
I prefer that version a little better cause it sort of made this movie a little bit more realistic
“You cut him. Hes hurt. You see you see? Hes NOT A MACHINE HES A MAN”
Legendary line.
When i first saw this movie with my parents, my mom went nuts with the Russian training montage. Especially seeing Stallone with the full on facial hair, but damn he did rock that beard though
Asia had me laughing with exposition and expedition…it’s exhibition…
What's crazy is that the dude who plays Drago (Dolph Lundgren) is a genius in real life. He has a Master's degree in chemical engineering and was admitted to MIT. He speaks multiple languages (including English) and is a 4th degree blackbelt in Kyokushin karate. He is no joke.
Nothing says 80's like Rocky IV. Cold war raging, training montages, etc...
I saw Rocky IV at the cinema in 1985 when I was 13. The Dolph Lundgren/Ivan Drago line "io ti spiezzo in due" (literally "I will split you in two" which is the Italian version of the line he says before meeting Rocky) is still Iconic. Any person my age could say it, and another person my age would immediately understand the reference.
My favorite Rocky movie!!
Too cute how Asia says "expedition fight". 😎
Rocky's biggest strength is tiring out his opponent by letting them punch him in the face then going for the body shots. Remarkable!
Always find it funny when Stalone says you move good for an older guy when he is older than Carl Weathers
"Throw the damn towel" best gif ever
Asia “run for your life”…from horror to fighting movies with the same passion! 😅
Easily my favourite sports film. Drago is one of films greatest villains!
It's the best ring walk and ring entrance of all time Asia
this was crazy in the theater, crowd was going nuts
Hey Asia and BJ, nice reaction. This is my favorite of the original Rocky films. Dolph Lundgren fighting Sylvester Stallone was epic. RIP Apollo aka Carl Weathers, thanks for playing an iconic nemesis/friend to Rocky and being an overall genuine person. I highly suggest Masters Of The Universe (1987) with Dolph Lundgren playing He-Man, a favorite cartoon from my childhood. The next Stallone movie should be Over The Top (1987) about arm wrestling. Robert Tepper did the song "No Easy Way Out" and Survivor did "Burning Heart" great songs for the soundtrack.
*Hit the one in the middle.*
Wise words to any fight.
I always find it difficult to pick my favorite between III and IV. Just awesome. RIP Carl
RIP Carl Weathers aka Apollo Creed aka Jericho "Action" Jackson aka Chubbs Peterson
34:04 He looks like a big superhero - Dolph actually played a character like that in Masters Of The Universe, he was He - Man!
This is my favorite Rocky movie. The soundtrack is amazing!!
I love this film so much, watched it so much as a kid. So sad to lose Apollo, but the way Rocky fights back to earn the respect of both Drago and the crowd is truly badass.
Tony Burton (Duke) is probably my favourite actor in this and the best performance, you can really see his love for Apollo and the pure emotion in his voice!
This one has the greatest 2 montages in movie history. The lambo drive while thinking about Appollo then the training scene is Russia. Both are GOATED.
I cracked up when Paulie reached over and exuberantly grabbed Apollo's/Rocky's trainer during the Russian boxing match, then it switched over and Asia is doing the same thing to BJ. lol
Interesting fact: Dolph Lundgren is not only an actual genius in real life, and ranked as one of the smartest people in the world, he is truly monstrously strong. During the filming, he hit Stallone in the chest and he was hospitalized and has had long term, permanent damage to his heart.
I came to mention this.
I wanna say it was an interview with Larry King back when the movie first came out. I was impressed with how eloquent and articulate Dolph expressed himself. He was horrified with injuring Sly.
My favorite “Rocky” ❤
One of the greatest soundtracks ever.
Ah great, the one with the robot we all pretend that didn't exist 😂
It never gets mentioned again
